The Keg has always been my favorite steakhouse, and I’ve visited countless times, but my recent experience at the Square One location was extremely disappointing. I ordered a medium-rare rib steak, but the first one was overcooked (more like medium). The staff apologized and made a new one, but the second steak was raw inside (the first photo).
When I raised this issue, the dining manager, Nicole, brought the steak back to the kitchen to cook it more. However, it was still raw inside. Rather than taking ownership of the repeated mistakes, Nicole asked me, “So you want it more cooked like medium?” This felt dismissive, as if I didn’t know what a proper medium-rare steak looks like. I explained that I’ve been to The Keg many times and know exactly what to expect, but her tone suggested otherwise. She even said, “So you want a perfect medium rare,” as if I was being unreasonable for expecting the standard I’ve always received at The Keg.
By the time the third steak arrived (the second photo), it still wasn’t the perfect medium-rare, but it was acceptable. After waiting 40 minutes and enduring condescending remarks, I chose not to press further.
What’s even more upsetting is that other Keg locations, like the one at Heartland, have shown much better customer service. In the past, when mistakes were made, they would take the steak off the bill as a gesture of apology and sincerity. While I don’t care about the bill being adjusted, the experience here simply didn’t feel worth it. When I go to The Keg, I expect great food and excellent service to match the price I’m paying. This time, I left feeling frustrated and disappointed, like my time and money were wasted.
The Keg is a restaurant I’ve always trusted and loved, but this experience at the Square One location has left me questioning whether I’ll return. I hope the management works on improving their service and ensuring customers...
Read moreWent out with my friend for dinner. Used to go to the one in heartland but ever since the square one location opened I started to go to this one since it is walking distance. I love keg steak but this is the first time I hated. It was toooooo salty enough to make lips tendered. I am not a person who complain a lot at the restaurant but I decided to let the know. They offered me another meal or free desert but the reason I told them was it was just too salty, not because I wanted compensation. I told them it was okay again and again but they insisted to do something to make it up. So we ended up getting a glass of wine. Up to there it was 4 star. Then I drank water to rinse the salt in my mouth, OMG the glass they served smelled like fish. I almost gagged. I was sure they washed the glasses with the plates they served the seafood. I love seafood so when I cook it at home I always add vinegar in the dishwasher so the glasses don’t smell like fish. That was disappointing. So it went down to 3 star right there. Also I ordered the take out steak for my son. I ordered double baked potato with baseball steak. When my son opened the box there was French fries instead and the steak looked a lot smaller than last time I ordered for take out. Did I get someone else’s dinner? Even tho it was the right steak how can they put the wrong potato there. The dining area was closed because it was almost empty so I was sure the kitchen was not that busy. Still they mixed up the orders?? What if my son has any allergies? I could get something harm to my son. Can I trust this restaurant? So my rate went down to 2 star. Probably I am not going to this location anymore and go back to heartland keg in the future. But the host, server and manager who came to resolved the issue was excellent. It was mostly kitchen who was responsible for the clean dishes, the correct orders and right seasoning. Very...
Read moreI really don’t understand the hype about the Keg. I haven’t been many times - just 4 - but not impressed with the food any one of those times and after this visit I have no interest in going back. It’s just not worth spending that kind of money for the quality of food received when I can spend half the price and go to Jack Astor’s which is supposed to be a tier down from The Keg and has been better in my experience. I went last night and took my mother whom is visiting from Europe. She wasn’t impressed. My food was alright and my medium well steak was perfect. My mom however got the Teriyaki Sirloin steak. It’s supposedly famous for its “sweet and tangy homemade teriyaki sauce, grilled to caramelize the sauce for flavor and tenderness.” It didn’t resemble that at all. Hers was also supposed to be Medium well and not only was it visibly burnt to a crisp (apart from the regular grill lines) it was very very dry and very very well well done. I’m not one to complain but when the server came around and I confirmed with her that it was supposed to be medium well and mentioned how burnt it was, all she gave was an excuse and basically just said that this particular steak comes this way and has the “burnt look” because of the marinade being sweet and burning quickly and that this was normal. Then she asked if we should have another one made followed by a discouraging “but it’ll take some time to get it to the done-ness you want” so we said no thank you. She smiled ok and was on her way. Very disappointed with how that was handled and should have been handled better. At the end we were brought a piece of cake on the house but I mean - if we wanted dessert we would have ordered it. My mom only ate half her meal because the veggies had a bit of char on them as well and she just overall did not enjoy her meal. I wish I would have taken a photo to post here but...
