I really don't know what all the hype is about. The chocolate is, for lack of a better word,...'meh'. There is very little difference in taste between the milk and dark chocolate. The bark with the nuts is so basic and so overpriced. The nuts should be at least toasted. I spent well over one hundred dollars for a box of chocolates to give as a gift. To say we were all disappointed is an understatement. Each chocolate looked lovely. As we made our way through the box we realized that each chocolate tastes exactly the same as the next (slight difference between the milk and the dark). There were no fruit flavours, or mint flavours or coconut or whatever else you would expect a box of assorted chocolate to contain. I would take ANY flavour that would differentiate one chocolate from the next. I have had the opportunity to taste high quality chocolate, I'm disappointed to say, this was NOT it. Extremely disappointed! As a side note, when I googled the company to look into the expiry date of the box I purchased I found that the company founders have had a few scandals regarding children amongst other things. Needless to say this was the first and last...
Read moreFirstly we LOVE Laderach Switzerland chocolates the most. Found them in Zurich in the 1990’s. Made pilgrimage there & more recently to Bayview & York Mills store (run by a cousin of founders). The Square One location falls short: the store is too hot so the chocolates taste stale; one has to practically beg the staff for taste samples when they usually give them freely. The selection of the pralines/truffles is very limited. They seem to focus on the cheaper “flat chocolate bark” which is less expensive & has less interesting flavours. The staff don’t make it feel like a fun adventure as they did in the York Mills & Zürich locations. Rather I felt the fellow had the attitude of a mysoginist! Arrogantly lowering himself to my level with his dry poker face as tho’ it was beneath him to serve a woman whose love for Laderach chocolates could not be denied. Chocolate & its enjoyment should be the central theme in the atmosphere of this store yet the staff was dull & unfriendly. & the chocolate doesn’t taste as fresh (temperature storage? turnover issues? mismanagement? ). Going back to the York Mills location (or Switzerland when opportunity presents itself...
Read moreMy first visit to Läderach was prompted by the enticing samples they offer at the entrance - and what a great introduction it was! As someone who appreciates high-quality chocolate, I was immediately impressed by their generous sampling policy that extends beyond just the front-of-store tastings. The staff encouraged me to try any chocolate I was curious about, which made selecting from their extensive display both enjoyable and stress-free.
The variety is impressive, and after sampling several options, I settled on four favorites: white chocolate with pistachio, dark chocolate almond, milk chocolate with mixed nuts, and milk chocolate pecan whiskey. Each one showcased the quality and craftsmanship that Läderach is known for.
What really stood out was the knowledgeable and friendly staff who were genuinely helpful in guiding my selections without being pushy. They clearly know their products well and take pride in helping customers find chocolates that match their preferences.
The sampling approach is brilliant - it turns what could be an overwhelming choice into a delightful tasting experience. I'll definitely be returning to explore more of...
