Oh boy, I'm sighing just thinking about writing this review. Imagine a culinary adventure that takes your taste buds on a journey... to nowhere. We ventured by ordering from a place besides the usual, when we stumbled on the highly rated Curry Mahal on St-Laurent. We dove into the food with high hopes, but it turned out to be a big flop.
We ordered the butter and tandoori chicken combo, thinking it would be a delightful dance of spices on our palates. Instead, it was a slow waltz of blandness. If there were any spices involved, they must have been on the shelves of their kitchen and not in our plates, because we couldn't taste them for the life of us.
And let's not forget about the vegetable and fish pakoras. We expected them to be crispy, flavorful bites of joy. Instead, they were more like deep-fried disappointment. There was no heat or aroma usually associated with fragrant Indian cuisine. We searched for flavor in those pakoras like it was a hidden treasure, but all we found was regret.
As for the garlic naan I don’t think it was fully cooked, it was probably cooked in a microwave. It was rubbery with little flavour.
So, if you're looking for a restaurant that specializes in the art of culinary boringness, Curry Mahal is your place. But if you want your taste buds to experience the vibrant, spicy, and aromatic world of Indian cuisine, you might want to try elsewhere. Bon appétit, or should I say, "Bonne...
Read moreI don’t understand how they have 4 stars. It doesn’t seem to be run by people who care about their business. I hesitated on going in at first because it was almost empty except for one person sitting at a table (emptiness makes me worry about the freshness of the food, it’s usually a bad sign). I looked it up on google and it had 4.1 stars so I told myself “oh it must be good then” and I went in. There’s no decor to critique because they’ve done nothing to decorate or create some kind of nice or comfortable atmosphere. A cafeteria has better vibes than this place. I made my order and went to sit down. The tables had crumbs on them from the previous customers who sat there, and the place was empty so the employee would’ve had time to do something as simple as wiping down the tables, but it wasn’t done. I thought maybe he’ll come wipe my table down once he sees that I’m sitting there, but he brought water and food and didn’t notice how dirty the table was. I started regretting ordering food from a place that can’t do this simple hygienic act. The chicken vindaloo that I ordered wasn’t good. It was missing ingredients. There were also potatoes in it which was weird, and they tasted very off. This food wasn’t made with love. It was hard to eat and I couldn’t even finish half of it. If you’re a fan of Indian food,...
Read moreLately I have been craving Indian food during my pregnancy. So I came to order some sabzee and daal for the next couple of days so I could take it to work. The staff who works here is a nice guy, I had ordered 4 vegetarian dishes, he gave me rice and one naan complimentary. The food is definitely fresh especially the vegetarian dishes, as I only eat vegetarian food.
I have been coming here for two weeks now and unlike some of the other Indian restaurants on the same street , this has a sink and a washroom, in case you decide to wash your hand before eating a thali.
The ambience is very average, this place is designed for a take out style place but if you chose to eat here it has the basic amenities one needs.
The vegetarian food is fresh, staff are nice and courteous and prices...
