My family and I picked this place based on the ratings, and unfortunately had a very very disappointing experience. We ordered 3 dishes, medium spicy, and a large bowl of rice. We are Chinese, enthusiastic eaters, and typically enjoy Sichuan cuisine.
Flavour: 1/5 - The 3 dishes we ordered were ALL EXTREMELY SALTY. Not just saltier than our preference, but SO salty that we ordered another stir-fry cabbage, and asked for no salt and no spice, JUST to be able to eat our meal. (Medium spice was much spicier than we expected. However the spiciness has NO impact on my review of the flavour, since it's subjective). We brought up the saltiness to the staff and they said "oh". The stir-fried cabbage was fine.
The rice, although generous in portion, was hard, like it was a bit undercooked. It truly felt upsetting to not even be able to enjoy the rice, given how salty the food was.
Value: 2/5 - After everything our bill was $95. The meat dishes had a lot of filler. The 水煮牛肉 (boiled beef in hot chili sauce) had some pieces of meat but was mostly bean sprout. The "dry pot" stir-fry was half filled with crinkle cut fries of all things?? Not worth $25 for the dish.
Service: I appreciated that the staff let us bring in an outside drink. I did not appreciate that nothing was offered in response to the saltiness of the food.
Even though all 4 of us were hungry, we couldn't finish the food once the cabbage dish was done because the rest of it was so salty. We packed up the green beans and the rest of our stir-fry so that we can re-cook the leftovers with more ingredients and balance out the saltiness.
I really hope that given the good reviews that this was somehow an off night. If others usually have a great experience here, then that's great. But for me, this was one of the most dissatisfying restaurant...
Read moreFound a new spot (for us) to try in the Guy Concordia area, L’Appétissant Sichuan. It’s a family run Sichuan restaurant that specializes in spicy dry pots.
Three spice levels (mild, regular and spicy). Regular was totally doable.
White rice ($6.00 large) - bowl was massive but we finished most of it. Stir fried frog legs in hot pot ($21.99) - the frog legs are bony but worth the effort. Meat is tender and very flavourful. Wish they gave more black fungus. Fish soup with pickled cabbage ($19.99) - the noodles, hidden underneath, soaked up the broth perfectly. Soup was flavourful and well balanced. Good amount of fish and plenty of vegetables. Stir fried eggplant with garlic sauce ($13.99) - eggplant was cooked perfectly. The sauce was slightly sweet and sticky.
Would come back to LS to try more of their...

One of the best Sichuan places I've eaten in Montreal! The portions are very generous for the price offered. The staff is polite and kind, you can either eat it there or order for takeout. They have a delivery website where there are pictures if you are unsure about what you want to order. All the meals that I've ordered there were always on point. Meat is juicy and tender, never overcooked or bland. Recommended to take the big bowl of rice if you are 2 or more and take the rest for takeout. The ambiance is average at best but the food definitely carries it. My go to spot when I'm...
