I visited this restaurant on a Monday evening because it was one of the few Chinese places without a long wait. I am Chinese myself, though Cantonese, and perhaps that is why the flavors here did not fully match what I was craving. This restaurant serves more Taiwanese style dishes, so the taste is different from the Cantonese food I usually enjoy. We had already eaten pho earlier in the trip and wanted something different, so we decided to give this place a try after reading some reviews.
I ordered the General Tao chicken special for $12.99, which came with two spring rolls, a bowl of rice, and the main dish. Online the photos make the portion look larger, but in reality it was an average serving size that could really only feed one person. The taste was fine but not something I found appealing, and I could not finish it. We also shared the fried tofu appetizer, which came in a small portion with a sauce that was somewhere between sweet and sour. The flavor combination was not what I expected and threw me off.
The Hong Kong style milk tea was a pleasant surprise. At $2.99 it was inexpensive and tasted authentic. The service was also very good. Our waitress was polite, attentive, and very friendly which made the experience more positive. While we were dining, I also noticed a Quebec family come in, look at the menu for a bit, and then leave shortly after. That gave me the impression that perhaps the food style here may not suit everyone’s taste.
The total for two people was about $41, which is fair for a sit down dinner. Unfortunately I did not feel well after the meal and went back to my hotel to rest for the night. Overall, I would say this restaurant is decent but not exceptional. The pricing and service were good, but the flavors and portions were not what I hoped for. If you enjoy Taiwanese style cooking, you may appreciate it more, but for me it was simply an...
Read moreIn the heart of Montreal's vibrant Chinatown, my quest for culinary exploration led me to M. Poisson, a quaint restaurant known for its unique dining proposition. It shares its space with Yi Fang, offering an intriguing option to pair meals with bubble tea—a delightful touch for those keen on a diverse dining experience.
However, accessing M. Poisson presents a bit of a challenge due to its location. Like many establishments in bustling urban areas, finding parking can be tricky. Moreover, the restaurant's entry is stair-only, posing an accessibility issue for individuals with mobility impairments.
Despite these logistical hurdles, the dining experience at M. Poisson is nothing short of remarkable. On a day when the allure of fish soup eluded me, I opted for a custom order, substituting fish with beef in my soup, complemented by wood ear mushrooms and a side of rice. Even though the restaurant was not crowded, with just one other table occupied, it was clear that M. Poisson thrives on a brisk trade of takeout and delivery orders. Impressively, this did not detract from our service speed, as our meals arrived promptly.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the spicy sauerkraut soup base. Its masterful blend of spice and sourness was a palate pleaser, perfectly complementing the generous portions of beef and mushrooms. The pricing was the cherry on top, offering great value for such quality fare.
M. Poisson has certainly earned its spot on my list of must-visit restaurants. Its blend of quality, value, and unique offerings, despite the minor inconveniences of location and access, make it a...

Review: I visited this establishment recently and decided to try their grilled spicy squid as the picture looks very appetizing, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a highly disappointing experience. The grilled squid served to me was excessively tough and rubbery, making it nearly impossible to enjoy. *the picture doesn’t look like the actual
What made matters worse was the poor customer service. When I approached the staff to express my dissatisfaction and request a refund or a replacement with an alternative dish, they were uncooperative and unwilling to accommodate my request. I had no choice but just to throw it out.
As a paying customer, I believe it is reasonable to expect a certain level of quality in the food served, especially when it comes to seafood delicacies like grilled squid. The tough and rubbery texture clearly indicated that the squid had not been cooked properly or had been left overcooked for an extended period.
In a dining experience, customer satisfaction should be a top priority, and I was disheartened by the lack of care and concern shown by the restaurant's staff. It is crucial for businesses to acknowledge and address customer complaints promptly and professionally, to ensure a positive dining experience and build customer loyalty.
I hope the management takes this review as constructive feedback and considers taking appropriate measures to improve the quality of their food and...
