Maestro SVP — Restaurant in Montreal

The food was amazing but the service was terrible. We made reservations and were greeted right away. A friendly woman came to our table and answered our questions about the menu and she was kind, but she disappeared and the other server came up. He was dismissive and rude the entire time. He would look at us but not come to our table. The bus boy was bringing us refills and taking our orders. He was really working whereas this server was totally avoiding us, in an obvious manner. He only asked us how our meal was when he dropped off the bill. The bus boy saved our experience and the seafood was incredible but the service really needs to be adjusted. This was the first time in our life that we didn't tip the server- we made sure to tip the bus boy who was the real star of the restaurant and deserves a huge promotion. I wasn't going to leave this review on opentable, but the restaurant cancelled my reservation after the fact, and I'm assuming to save face for our bad experience, which really made a sour experience worse.

☆edit to clarify☆ we had 2 breads, which we paid for, which is not a lot based on them being very small and us being a party of two. Perhaps instead of being defensive in your response to your customers, you could look at the 2 negative Google reviews in less than 24 hours as a coachable moment for your staff and take accountability. It's not a good look to insult patrons who had legitimately bad experience. I'm pregnant and I was drinking San Pelligrino and our table had 3 bottles. It's reflected on the bill. My husband had diet coke and we will ask for as many refills as we want. If it's not an issue at other restaurants, why is it an issue here? This response really shows your true colours. Lying about what we ordered is just brutal. I am in the service industry and I know for a fact that waiters do NOT pay taxes on their bills, they may tip out the kitchen but that's not a tax. It's also not required to tip so maybe Enrique (we didn't know his name) can use this as a learning experience for rude service. I can tip whoever I want and we pointed out to the nice lady that we were intentionally tipping him and not the server to avoid accusations, which again is not reflected in this...

We went here for our 11th year anniversary and it was our first time in Montreal.

This restaurant's service definitely ruined our first time experience in Montreal.

The service is slow, not attentive and when they're not at your table they're either at the bar chatting with other staff or staring at their phones. only We ordered the crab soup to share but it came in one bowl as even the waiter, prior to us ordering, asked us if we're sharing. I've come to understand that this means the soup will be served in two bowls. It wasn't. OK, not a big problem.

We then ordered the big seafood tower and it was very fresh and delicious.

However, the service is really bad because in the over two hour period, only once did our waiter come to refill our water.

I noticed a trend there and it was the waiters there were all not waiters. By that I mean they have no interest in service restaurant-goers. They only want to bring the food out, and then that's it. Not chit-chat. Just stare at their phones and talk amongst themselves.

On the evening we're there the past manager, a lady, was there visiting with her male friend and all the staff was swooning around her, perhaps that's why we didn't get the basic attention that we deserved.

Our total bill came out to over $300 because we ordered two bottles of wine. We weren't just a couple that wanted a cheap meal and leave.

It was our 11th year anniversary. I'm not expecting free cake. I'm expecting a warm greeting and a hello. Not once did they acknowledge that it was our anniversary.

Lastly, at the end, when we were finishing our wine, a fly flew into my wife's wine glass. We asked for a refill and new glass and the waiter made it seem like such a huge deal that he gave us a new glass with some more wine in it. In fact, the new glass compared to the gold glass had less wine because he started pouring from our bottle.

I found this place on Instagram and I was truly craving some crab legs (sea food) so my boyfriend decided to bring me there but we were truly disappointed. They don’t have people to serve you and the manager doesn’t respect her customers. Please if your looking to eat sea food find els where to go!!!

Dear Ms Polansky, Read this carefully because it will help you in your life and it will stop people giving you bad reviews. For bad service you can search it even on google we are not force to give you a tip. It say leave a penny. The waiter/waitress will be aware that you did not forget to leave a tip and that their service was unsatisfactory. My boyfriend had money and it was not he’s credit card it was cash and yes we are awarded it 15% of tips to leave, But you give use a bad service. When someone is asking you what it in the food don’t tell them it good because we all don’t have the same taste. Maybe we are even allergic to one of the ingredient. You should learn be nice and not just to ask for a tip! I don’t care what you say or write just know customers are always right no matter what! Asking "Are you finished with that?" when we still have plenty of food on my plate. If you truly have experience since 30 years as you say, you will know some people eat relatively slowly. Others stop eating for a few minutes when they get really engaged in a conversation. What we brought actually is what we ordered. We order Louisiana seafood: mussels, clams, black tiger shrimp, scallops, salmon, calamari in a cream white wine sauce + cajun spice, there was no black tiger shrimps.
