Date of this visit was mid-October 2017) - I contacted Margo, the coordination manager at La Champagnerie a few weeks before my girlfriend and I had reservations for dinner while we were enjoying a long weekend in Montreal. The dinner was meant to cap off and celebrate the (hopeful) answer of yes as I was planning on asking my girlfriend to merry me earlier that same day (she said yes!). I told Margo about my plans and asked how I could make the evening a little bit more special and she suggested a few things. I decided to get a nice bottle of champagne, which her sommelier suggested (based on our tastes) and then they wrote a message I picked, in French, on the bottle which they then presented to us at the table after we arrived. My fiance absolutely loved the champagne and just melted with the presentation of the bottle/message. In fact, she loved the champagne so much she wants to serve it at our wedding! We took the bottle back home with us which we will keep forever as a reminder of the day we got engaged. Margo really helped me out here and went out of her way to make sure our evening was great, and it was! Thank you Margo! The food was also incredible. We started with a charcuterie board that had some excellent cured meats on it. My fiance had a steak, cooked perfectly, and so big she had to take half of it home. I had the poutine with filet and lobster, and like a fatty, I ate the whole thing. I ate a lot of poutine on this trip (because, who doesn't love poutine?) and it was the best I had on the whole trip (and I had a lot of poutine in Montreal). I've read some of the negative reviews here and honestly, I didn't see or experience anything that they claim. I wouldn't call this your every day go to restaurant, it is a little pricey but hey, it's champagne, unless you're drinking Cook's, champagne isn't cheap. I felt like the food was priced reasonably well and like I said, it was delicious. The atmosphere was great, it was a little loud but not so much that I had to lean in to hear my fiance talk to me or anything like that. Next time we go to Montreal, we will definitely go back.

I usually don’t leave reviews, but this time I felt like I had to. Maison St-Paul had been on my list for a while, especially for the Thursday “all you can eat steak and fries” special. We finally gave it a try — but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. We arrived at 7:30pm and placed our order. The first round of steak came out in about 4 minutes, which was surprisingly fast — but unfortunately, none of the steaks were cooked as requested. My medium rare came out well done. Still, we gave it another shot and ordered a second round at 8:15pm… but it didn’t arrive until 8:45pm. When it finally came, the meat was tough and full of tendons. It completely killed my appetite. The group behind us also seemed unhappy with how their steaks were cooked, so it wasn’t just us. The service was also disappointing. Our waiter only checked in three times the entire evening, which really didn’t help the situation. I don’t mind paying — but when the quality and service are both off, it’s hard to enjoy the experience. For us, the Thursday deal simply wasn’t worth it. After we left, I checked the reviews — and it turns out a lot of people had the same experience. This is just our honest opinion.

So I haven’t eaten in here in a while and I’m so pleasantly surprised! Food was INCREDIBLE! It’s hard to find good FUSION Middle Eastern (Lebanese) food in Montreal. What I mean by this is eating unique flavoured middle eastern food that you won’t and can’t eat at home. They did an INCREDIBLE job at it and I highly recommend it. Here are some of my favour dishes: Salted knafe pie - beef is filet Mignon so easily chewable and the mix with knafe is insane (I can’t explain it in words - you need to try it ) Butternut squash fatteh - you can feel the Mediterranean flavour but with squash which is super unique since squash is not a Mediterranean ingredient. Again, hard to replicate at home and, as a Middle Eastern, it’s refreshing to taste squash with a Mediterranean “kick” Burrata de Puglia - this was a pleasant surprise because it gave me “ Manaeesh gone to Italy “ vibe What was so cool about the new menu is that it gave me that feeling of “ you need to try to know what I mean “ . Highly recommend trying it. Thank you for this experience!

A Birthday Party Turned Nightmare Due to Inexcusable Staff Behavior- Marouane

We booked this venue expecting a fun, celebratory night — instead, our birthday party was completely ruined by the unacceptable behavior of one of your bartenders, Marouane.

Throughout the evening, Marouane was belligerent, inattentive, and unprofessional. He appeared intoxicated for a significant portion of his shift, provided slow and inconsistent service, and repeatedly asked the same customers for stamps despite us having booked the open bar. The club was not full — our group made up about 96% of the guests — yet the service was shockingly poor.

Things escalated drastically at 2:30 AM. Despite the venue being open until 3 AM, Marouane aggressively yelled at our group to leave immediately. He shouted at us multiple times and even got into a heated verbal altercation with a female guest. If another gentleman hadn’t stepped in, the situation could have turned physical. His tone was deeply disrespectful and laced with misogynistic undertones — completely unacceptable in any setting, especially one involving paying customers.

To make matters worse, Marouane attempted to provoke another guest into a fight and then proceeded to call the police on our group, falsely claiming that 11 intoxicated individuals had left the premises. His behavior was not only unprofessional — it was vindictive, vile, and antagonistic.

Thankfully, another staff member, Danielo, did everything in his power to calm the situation. He was respectful, kind, and clearly trying to mitigate the damage. Sadly, Marouane demeaned him, calling him a “simple busboy” and even tried to remove him from the venue for standing up for what was right.

This experience has left a black mark on your establishment. We paid for open bar access until 3 AM and expected to be treated with basic human decency — not herded out like cattle and humiliated. Until your management takes steps to address this situation, I strongly advise others to think twice before booking an event here.

We demand an apology, compensation, and direct contact from the manager to discuss a resolution. In 2025, there is zero tolerance for this kind of abuse and...

Good food but terrible drinks and hotific service and customer care.

We reserved months before for some bachelorette package which included some games and a polaroid camera, one champagne bottle and a fixed menu. Two days before our reservation, we are advised of new management and that they could not honor the package. Conveniently for them, we were in no position to relocate as we were a big group, two days before our event, during wedding season. We were told we would have two bottles instead of the games and camera and the menu changed slightly. I was not impressed that they couldn't honor a simple card game and a camera which was the sole purpose we reserved there.

When the waiter brought us the wrong drink, there was some back and forth for way too long about what went wrong. Almost as if, we forgot what we ordered. Although not convinced, the waiter took back one drink and never came back with my correct order, meanwhile I can see it sitting on the bar. Some people in our group ordered and received their drinks in this time and mine was still sitting there. "Excuse me, I still have not recieved my drink", "Yes we are making it". A few minutes later 'Excuse me..." "Yes we are still making it"...?!?! Then he goes on to grab my, now watered down, Aperol Spritz sitting on the bar for 30 minutes and brings it to me.

The drinks were poorly done. Either they underserve or water down the alcohol. When we asked the waiter why three of the other drinks tasted like virgins, he went on to explain that you're not suppose to taste the alcohol in a "good" drink. I felt this was a little condescending as a full grown woman whose had plenty of cocktails in my life but THIS one is my first proper cocktail

Overall HORRIBLE customer service, my family has been running successful restaurants in and around Montreal for over 30 years and this service is...
