Went way downhill
Beer is way over priced, 33$ I got charged for a carbomb, can you imagine that?? 1 pint and 1 shot
As for food, if you can't make pizza don't make it. I feel like their operating with frozen garbage and a toaster oven but charging high end dinjg prices. Pizza was awesome, I went back and it's a tiny frozen flatbread with a mini diameter, covered with 2$ if cheese and ham instead of bacon as advertised, maybe 1$ worth. They charge 24$ and then have the balls to serve it still frozen with uncooked dough, I never send food back but I had to send this, it was uncooked dough, so they bring me another pizza, this one burnt on the outside, but still uncooked dough inside, I couldn't believe it, it wasn't just uncooked, it was still orange/yellow/ frozen. So they basically took a frozen bread, threw it in a toaster oven 5 min with cheese on it to melt then gave me it. The thing doesn't even rise, it's literally frozen. Sub sandwiches have gone far since the good ol' Nilan knuckle sandwiches, or even what came after. It's now stale bread, not even toasted, with 1/5 the toppings it used to have except for of course the chopped lettuce if Wich there's tons to hide the emptiness of it all. I won't go on for the rest like the insane price for 3L of beer or all the other stuff. But many dive bars have better food for cheaper. The staff is still great, amazing even , but it's just the cost cutting measures that make it an absolutely terrible let down everytime, unless you like eating dog food and drinking backwash, I Wich case you might enjoy your experience. This is not a Irish pub, it's a hole in the wall living off a long past reputation with Indian food, not Irish, although the chefs make that well. Even the Irish "Jameson dog" is curry flavoured if your into Indian food you'll like it but don't expect the old menu with Irish stew, or basically any Irish staple at all besides a overpriced stale hamburger Wich I guess is Irish pub food?? When I step foot in there I just feel like I'm being bent over and taken harder every time
Edit: After a night out, and a 170$ bill that left me wondering what I ordered, or if I even got something that didn't disappoint or was able to wash the sour taste out of my mouth, I asked around, and from a huge group, it seemed the only people who enjoyed their food and drinks were the 2 designated drivers who didn't drink and I it had friend pickles and fried jalapeno poppers Wich thankfully were good since you can't mess up opening a Mayrand bag of frozen food and frying it although even then it seems like they should maybe change their oil more regularly.
I don't think it's the kitchen staff fault either, seems like more a logistics/structure/procedure and cheapening out problem
As for the nachos I didn't try them but my buddy's a chef with a voracious appetite, who was expecting cheap style bar food, wouldn't even order anything and left to go eat next door then come back after trying the nachos and telling me it's just spaghetti meat sauce on nacho chips
C'mon McLean's, I know you can do better, the nachos were epic and you still have the wonderful staff and ambience...
Read moreHow can I start… it all began with Googling a sport bar in Montreal, given that the Montreal Canadiens were playing against the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is the biggest hockey rivalry in Canada; a country where the main sport is hockey. We arrived to the bar and we were greeted by the most lazy waitress. All she did was to stare at her phone, disregarding all of our attempts to get service. We arrived 30 minutes before the game started and asked multiple times if the game would be played on the TV next to us. The staff reassured us multiple times that the game would be played on all TVs once the game started. 1 hr into the game, it was only played on 10% of the TVs and the other 90% of the screens were playing a US college basketball game.... NC State vs Purdue. Of course we were unlucky and the screens facing us were not playing the hockey game. I can't stress the irony of this... a sports bar in downtown Montreal prioritizes a random game over their own city hockey team game. This was a absurd and comical.
Why would a sports bar which is less than 1 km away from the Montreal hockey stadium and has Montreal’s Canadiens flags all over would decide to prioritize the most important game?! For soccer fans, this is like being in Madrid while Madrid is playing Barcelona and the local sports bar decided to play a tennis game instead. The incompetency of this is laughable.
Major disappointment. At the end we didn't watch the game at all which was the whole reason we went...
Read moreI am a little late with the following comments and well-wishes, nonetheless, I am writing in order to express my sincere gratitude to Dave and Nes, both bartenders and all -around good guys at McLean’s Pub located at 1210 Peel Street in Montreal. I was in a bind. Thirteen friends of mine were in town ready to watch the final games of the EPL season—May 25, 2025—with a real focus on the Chelsea v. Nottingham game. All of the places suitable to watch the game could not accommodate such a crowd when I came to them, the day before (not my fault), seeking to make a reservation for 14. I went to McLean’s and made a request for a reservation, expecting yet another rejection. Much to my surprise, Dave and Nes, were friendly and professional in the way that they handled my time-sensitive request. They understood the importance of football as central to family and friends coming together. They took care of the logistics and were able to hook it up and get us a table.
In short, we had a great time. Dave was great at quickly quenching the group’s thirst and ensuring more than adequate sustenance. Couldn’t have asked for better guys to help out. Food, drink and service—all excellent. Dave and Nes are the primary reason I continue to visit the location when friends are in town. I highly recommend McLean’s with a special emphasis on the service Dave and Nes provided for a “proper” viewing of football games—EPL or otherwise. Cheers to them for...
