I had a great experience at Mignon Steak Vieux-Montréal, overall. The service was attentive, and the atmosphere was on point. We sat in the Negroni Room, which was cozy with low lighting and great music. The food was enjoyable, for the most part. The onion soup was solid, and the mac and cheese stood out—it was cheesy and had a nice crunch from the breadcrumbs, which made it a little different from the usual versions I’ve had. Also had green peas. Definitely worth trying. As for the steak frites, the sirloin cut was tasty, but I’d recommend asking for the sauce on the side. While the sauce was flavorful, it completely covered the steak and masked its natural taste. The fries were a fun surprise—they were almost identical to McDonald’s fries in both smell and taste, which I actually thought was kind of cool. That said, the biggest letdown was the steak being served cold. It’s such a shame because steak is always best sizzling, and you’d expect that at a restaurant like this. It threw off the dish for me a bit, which was disappointing. All in all, the service, food, and vibes made it a good spot to visit. A little more attention to the details would make it even better.

Food was amazing. My husband and I found this place after we visited Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal (right around the corner). It was at the right price range, and the menu was looking sharp. It is located at the most busiest place, so it makes sense that the wait is long and the service can be delayed however, we waited for our food for a very long time. The table that came much later than us got their food way before us. We ordered the same thing. We had to wait a long time to get attention from a server as well. I noticed that there was a missed order or some sort that the server was walking around back and forth with a plate of fries. Then, he came back out and gave it to a table who just got their table. It was a nice family with a young kid ;) so it was nice to see that. Yes, I was waiting for my food for so long, I saw everything! But still, the food was good. I was able to switch off the side of fries to greens. Very delicious. Don't get me wrong, the fries were great too. It's a tight space so be cautious around other people. Especially with big bags and coats.

Very grateful to have found this as we stumbled upon this place on a Sunday evening with no reservations, and thankfully accommodated us in. The energy at the restaurant felt like a typical French bistro and could definitely envision the place for multiple occasions such as a date night, catching up with friends, or as for me, visiting from out of town for a nice meal! I had ordered a glass of wine and our server was nice enough to provide a second glass of wine on the house, as our food arrived a bit longer than anticipated, and they apologized for the delay and said it was not typical of them to be so behind. I really appreciated the gesture! I was craving a good Steak Frites and the sauce, as other people have mentioned, was so good and flavorful, and the unlimited fries were pretty crispy as well! Overall a very pleasant evening in a wonderful area of Montreal!

A very disappointing experience for the first time.

We researched their $1 oyster happy hour and booked our reservation to arrive at 5pm when it starts. When we are seated, our waitress tells us that those oysters are no longer in season and they stopped serving them two weeks ago. However, it says on the sign right outside the restaurant that they have them. Several other people who got seated after us came in for the same thing and were disappointed as well. Our waitress was pretty inconsistent as she told one table it was changed 2 days ago and another table that they just changed it.

Either way, many people left due to this news. We decided to stay cause we had to be somewhere in an hour and didn’t have time find another restaurant. We decided to order some food anyways and it was decent but nothing special.

We had mentioned that we were on a time crunch and that we would like to get our food as soon as possible. When we inquired about how long it would take, our waitress seemed flippant and said that it was ready and that we should just wait.

When we got the bill, we noticed that we had an $8 charge for water. Our waitress had asked us when we sat if we would like sparkling or still water. We said still as that’s what we usually get and didn’t want to pay for water. She came back with a bottle of Evian, cracked it open, and poured us each a glass. We had assumed it was a free service since nothing was stated otherwise, but apparently not. I told her that she never told us it was not free and she responded with “but it came in a bottle”. Her attitude was very forthcoming and she acted like we should’ve known better.

When we went to pay we mentioned that we were upset about the false advertising and she responded with “it was your choice to stay”.

Overall, it was a restaurant without much class or good service. I was surprised that instead of being sympathetic or understanding to our situation, the staff seemed to feel as though they were always in the right. We were very disappointed with how our evening went and will definitely...

My wife and I decided to try the restaurant yesterday evening after a Cirque Du Soleil show we attended for our one year wedding anniversary. Based off of good reviews and appetizing pictures, we decided to try the food.

Upon arriving we noticed the restaurant had a cozy, intimate ambience and 3 tables were occupied of the total 10-12 tables in the restaurant. My wife and I both ordered their Table D’hote (the 7oz AAA angus sirloin). I noticed one other person beside me had ordered at the same time as us but ordered a filet mignon. Another group of 3 walked in afterwards and ordered their food as well (two salads, and one steak). For some reason the waitress came to inform us that there was “a mix up” with our food and as a result all of the guests who arrived after us, including the two that ordered steaks got their food before us, thus making us wait much longer than we deemed necessary.

We finally got our food and I immediately noticed our steaks were already cut. That is a red flag as I know one of two things must have happened: the chef cut the meat as it was being cooked, or after it was cooked before it had time to rest. The meat was incredibly dry (I ordered mine medium and my pregnant wife ordered her’s well done). Extremely hard to chew and swallow.

Not once did someone come to check on us after we got our meals to ask if everything was okay, or if we needed anything. We were left to eat our food dry, and without any water once we received our food. We were too embarrassed to complain at the restaurant. But I have to inform anyone who is reading this to please make sure your food is well cooked and that if it isn’t to inform someone.

Unfortunately our experience spoiled the rest of what was supposed to be a beautiful celebration of our one year wedding anniversary.

The only saving grace was the sauce on the meat...

I really wanted to love this experience, although it ended horribly. Do not get me wrong, the food and the vibes were excellent, but the service was not up to par.

When we first ordered, I advised the waiter I am severely allergic to tree nuts. We started with beef tartare and ordered our mains right away. We ended up adding a salad, once our appetizer was done, expecting it to arrive with our food. We let the waiter know we no longer wanted the salad since it was still not ready once we began eating our mains. The waiter responded with “I’ll go make it myself, it’ll take 2 minutes”. All this to say, we finally began eating our meals and salad. As I said, it was all delicious, although I suddenly couldn’t breathe. I asked the waiter immediately if there was nuts in anything, to which he responded “the salad is dressed in a walnut sauce”. Also, no where on the menu does it indicate the house salad is dressed in nut sauce, which is misleading and dangerous. To give you perspective, this is a white sauce, that does not look like it contains nuts. But the fact that he immediately knew is disappointing.

I’m not sure if this waiter (tall blonde guy) is purposefully malicious or just ignorant, but that was absolutely terrifying for me. He told us not to pay and “just go”. The restaurant did not reach out to see if I was okay, nor did anyone help me. My boyfriend and I called the ambulance, and there was obvious commotion caused by the first responders, and no one did a thing.

This is absolutely unacceptable. The waiters should be educated about allergies and intolerances because they are real. I don’t understand how you forget “a severe allergy”. I ended a date night in the emergency, had several Epipens injected, and am now no longer comfortable with...
