I ordered the "thou shalt bacon cheeseburger" and it sucked in terms of taste, feel and price.
Let me tell you a tale. I ordered my meal through foodorra and after it got to my place in a decent amount of time (30 min) I thought everything would be great, it was a bit pricey at 23$ but I thought it would be worth it given how exhausted I was. The guy hands me the bag and goes on his merry way as I settle in to enjoy my late supper. I open the bag to see only one single thing in the bag, a burger... now I was a bit miffed that for a price of 23$ I wasn't at least getting some kind of fries or side but I figure oh well, that's what I get for getting the 6oz version. In the meantime I wait 20 min to make some of my own fries while the burger sits next to it on the counter. Anyway once everything is done I open the foil on the burger to see a pile of warm melted mush, now I will admit that a little bit of that was on me for letting it sit but the majority of that was because this burger was covered in melted cheese and grease. Now I will readily admit that I love a bit of grease and cheese on my burgers but even then that was waaaaay too much for a burger this size. But at this point I'm exhausted and hungry so I figure what the hell it'll probably taste amazing right? Buuuuut nope... it tastes exactly like it looks, bland, smothered and just desolate of any real quality. Literally every single aspect of the burger tasted like one big glob of everything. There were no distinct layers of flavor at all. Everything was just completely overpowered and muddled by the taste of the beef, cheese and grease. Now to fair, the beef was cooked to a perfect medium rare as a good burger should be but despite having picked the Montreal steak spice option I couldn't taste it all. There was no crunch and certainly no distinguishing between any of the vegetables unless you physically took it out and ate it separately but even then it was covered in so much mayo or special sauce that the only one I could taste this way was the onion. In a good burger there should be grease, but in this instance there was so much that it completely muddled the taste of the burger to the point where I couldn't even taste the bacon that I PAID EXTRA FOR DESPITE IT BEING A BACON CHEESEBURGER. Honestly I made it about 1/2 the way through before I just wanted to vomit and couldn't even finish it.
I hope that this really was just a bad day for the chefs or that I just made a lot of mistakes in my toppings or something because that burger was a disgrace and most certainly not worth 23$ plus 8$ in taxes and delivery charges. From now own I think I'll go to this place in person to order my food. Delivery is too much of a gamble...
Read moreWhere do I even begin, when it comes to my love of this incredible burger establishment? This review was prompted by a really negative experience with another burger joint, last night. I figured, if I can take the time to dissect Obvious burger, and detail all of the reasons why their eatery should be absolutely ashamed of what they dare to pass off as "meat", I can certainly spare 15-20 minutes, to gush a moment, about the masters of the food industry, who actually bother to do their jobs (and their customers) right. This place is definitely not cheap, and its no wonder why- there is absolutely no hint of any compromise on quality, at Notre Boeuf De Grace. Without a doubt, you will get exactly what you pay for, as-advertised (perfect and pink in the middle, everytime) and worth every penny you pay. I've never experienced a burger in Montréal quite like NBDG, before or since. I easily consider these guys the undisputed champions among burger chains in Montréal (with an honorable mention to 5 Guys, who sadly are no longer in my delivery area!). Notre Boeuf's sandwiches are cooked with attentive, loving, & discriminating perfection; they manage to deliver extremely impressive meals, with the consistency and reliability of familiar fast food eateries, and the decadent, outstanding quality that you'd expect, from the bill that will accompany your 5☆ sandwich. If you have the money to spare, it's a worthwhile and rewarding treat. I've never, ever been disappointed by NBDG, not delivery, take-out or eat-in (and I've done all three). This place will always be the first restaurant that comes to mind, when money is no object and I'm craving some genuine, real comfort food. As long as the quality remains unchanged, I will be a loyal customer, for the foreseeable future. My hat goes off to these guys, they provide a special, memorable, and unarguably celebrated staple among dining experiences on this Island, and no Foodie Tour of MTL could ever be considered complete or well-rounded, without paying a visit to any Notre Boeuf de Grace location; a superior and unparalleled...
Read moreI live in the area and come here often for dinner and brunch, and it is often a place I recommend to people when they're in Montreal. I will no longer be doing that or visiting this place myself. I went for brunch around 11am, and the restaurant was not full and had one waiter working on the floor (but there seemed to be three other waiters sitting around chatting/ not working). We were seated quickly, but then no one came to serve us for nearly 20 minutes. We were confused as there were only 5 other tables. Our food arrived before our drinks, and when the drinks arrived one of the waitresses complained, "sorry it took so long, I HAD to freshly squeeze the oranges MYSELF" (I'd like to take a moment to let you all know that the drink I ordered was called "Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice"). At this point, we felt like a hassle to everyone working there despite being one of the few tables there and the abundant staff working (I'm sorry the thing I ordered on your menu is annoying for you to make, but please don't put that on me). As we were eating, a table of 4 was seated next to us and immediately started complaining to the waitress that they wanted us to move/leave so they could have more room. They proceeded to plan out an entire seating arrangement centred on us leaving for the next couple minutes, which made us feel very frustrated (and it was so very very awkward). They then had other guests show up, and they stood around us waiting for us to leave as well. On top of that, it took 25 minutes for our dishes to be cleared and for the bill to arrive. Our brunch experience here has totally ruined my perception of this restaurant and I won't be returning...
