mochi donuts have to be the most ridiculously overrated pastry goods bandwagon i have had the displeasure of witnessing in a very long time. There is literally less substance in the donut than a regular donut, hell, even a donut hole, and it demands a higher price than it too. I initially thought it was some sort of actual mochi + donut concoction, which explains the strange bubbled donut ring that they took shape, but no, it is just air. It’s like an air donut. It’s like if lays chips made donuts, they would make this. there is so much empty volume inside the donut it is insane. I get the whole ‘texture’ thing, but it’s not even all that. Theres so much more pleasure to be derived from a full and wholly dedicated donut. its not even a healthy snack anyways so just go the whole way, why cheapskate yourself out on one of life’s greatest sweet treats. i tried the strawberry and Nutella one, and they were just okay. If I had the same flavour on a proper donut, I would have been way more satisfied. apart from all that, the service was good though, and the cafe itself is quite...
Read moreAbsolutely love this new bubble tea shop in downtown Montreal! This is their second location on Sainte-Catherine West a block away from Concordia University.
As a bubble tea lover, I strongly recommend visiting OCHA for their unique selection of drinks. The tea is brewed upon ordering using teapresso exactly like how espresso is done for coffee. So one may enjoy a more enhanced tea fragrance that is well balanced with the rest of the drink whether it may be fruit teas, tea lattes or just plain tea. Their prices are fair and use a variety of freshly cut fruits and fresh milk in their drinks, with oat milk being their non-dairy option. They also offer hot beverages along with a unique yuzu drink that is special to this brand.
I ordered their cold plain oolong tea with tapioca pearls. The normal sugar and ice levels were perfect and the pearls offered an enjoyable chew. The vibe was great and the staff were amazing. The experience was very positive and I will definitely come back regularly for their...
Read moreAfter finishing dinner nearby, we strolled along Saint-Catherine Street in search of dessert and came across OCHA. Having visited shortly after they first opened, we decided to pop in again for their mochi doughnuts. Although we didn’t try their drinks this time, I recall them being both tasty and reasonably priced during previous visits.
Now, onto the mochi doughnuts: they’re absolutely delightful! Sweet and flavorful, with an impressive variety to satisfy even the pickiest dessert lover. The texture was perfect—chewy but not overly dense—and each flavor packed a punch. Pricing was fair for the quality and uniqueness.
Service was polite but a bit slow, especially since the place wasn’t particularly busy. However, that minor hiccup didn’t overshadow the overall experience. If you’re in the area and craving something sweet, OCHA’s mochi doughnuts are...
