I enjoyed my veg curry and vibe a lot. The only thing I’d say is I think the tofu had this airy dry texture and bland taste that made it require a lot of sauce to get the flavour and satisfying mouth bite right and while there was just enough sauce for that, i think it would have benefitted from more added to the bowl. The sauce was great : it had the flavour of a special curry and the texture of a lobster sauce. The pickled veg was a nice addition and the portion of rice was generous. I really appreciated the care that went into the green tea latte. It was my first time trying one and now my standards are high: wouldn’t settle for anything less fluffy, creamy and rich in that green tea powder. My friends and I sat on the terrace in the mid-fall so the wasps seemed to finally have gone on to other destinations and we were able to enjoy a peaceful lunch on a nice day thanks to the big picnic benches and calm minimalist modern atmosphere secluded from the streets. I paid at the front and paid tip before knowing I would have to go outside and wait and then come back to get my own tray to bring to my table outside which was all a bit difficult to navigate because when I left my table someone else took it because I couldn’t leave my stuff there unattended and if I had to have been carrying things with me other than my backpack and Fanny pack lol I may have dropped stuff or my tray but luckily no accidents happened. When my three friends ordered after me they were given a number and the waiter brought them their food and drinks. Seems like the logic is a bit backwards so hopefully this feedback is taken into consideration. I’d definitely come back to try other menu items especially on a day or evening with a dj
Edit: I came back for a night event and it was soooo special. If you get the chance to attend something 100% go for it
Edit 2: I came back at lunch and had the egg sandwich and it was good but not great. It’s just because I’m not a big fan of white bread and found it a bit too boring. The hojicha tea was really nice and helped balance out the richness of...
Read moreI really like tasting menus. It lets you try a little bit of everything. So when I found this tasting menu for $78/two people and great reviews, I was excited to try it out. Unfortunately, the entire experience was just a two-star one. Half the food was good (nothing amazing) and the other half was meh. On top of that, the service was SO slow. They didn't really check on us, even if we were trying to flag someone to get their attention. It wasn't even that busy there on a Saturday night at around 9, so I'm not sure why our table was neglected.
Anyway, here is what the tasting menu included: Tuna tataki - nice start to the menu, but it was like a rollercoaster after that Gomaae (Japanese spinach salad with sesame dressing) - the spinach was chewy, but I liked the dressing Sashimi (hamachi, salmon, and scallop) - no complaints here. The best one was probably the scallop Onsen Tamago (poached egg with truffle) - this wasn't bad. Could have used some more truffle flavor in it though Surf and turf tempura (scallop tempura and mushroom tempura) - this was a little oily but it was alright. Toro sushi (4 pieces for 2 people) - probably the best of the whole night. I could have used more of this and less of the other stuff Blondie - we were forced to pick this because they ran out of the tofu dessert option. This was pretty bad. It was a blondie with vanilla ice cream (standard), but then they added caramel and yuzu. It just did not go well together
We also ordered one of the specials, some kind of seared bluefin sushi. It was 2 pieces for $16 and totally not worth it. I think it was just tuna that was probably about to go bad so that's why they had to sear it and put it on their "specials" menu.
It seems they do raw fish well. So just stick to that, avoid the cooked foods, or any "specials", and you'll be fine (if you're also fine with...
Read moreBeen meaning to come back since this spot rebranded to its current concept. Atmosphere and interior design are 10/10. The second we walked in there was a huge line that was well maintained for the hour we were there, but moves quickly. The food tasted incredible - I had the katsu sandwich which was juicy with a large portion of pork. The sweet bread was a nice touch and overall the sandwich was really comparable to those I tried in Japan! My husband had the tomago sandwich - he mentioned the egg was cooked to perfection but could have used a touch less mayo. The daily pickled items were fantastic (although my husband thought he was getting pickles based on how the menu was written - so I got to enjoy them). Onions are especially well done.
Unfortunately, service was really lacking for me - really average in general. Sadly, we waited over 30 minutes for two sandwiches. Which, being busy, it would’ve been understandable to wait a while (still a bit long in my opinion but understandable), however, we noticed people who came in after us getting their food quite quickly ahead of us, not sure what happened there. When I asked the girl after 20 minutes just to be sure they didn’t lose our order (because again, it was pretty busy and it happens) and mentioned people that had come in 5-10 minutes after us were already eating, she said she’d check on it (without showing her my buzzer or my order), went around the corner and came right back out saying it was coming right up. It’s possible she managed to check the order of my buzzer from my hand but it kind of felt like she just went in to appease me/didn’t actually check? In any case, it took another 10-15 mins to get our food.
The food and atmosphere here are fantastic so I really hope our experience with the service/the wait were a one off and usually people don’t have a...
