Read moreI searched for four days for a good cold brew. Finally found it on my last day! The two baristas were amazingly warm and welcoming, and my cold brew was delish. I only need to order two, upon my return! UPDATE: Was just in Montreal for a few days, staying far from Pikolo, with friends. I had one night on my own, after they'd left. And I booked the hotel closest to Pikolo, JUST to get their coffee. I had a flat white with Oatly, and I can STILL taste it. There's a local coffee company near me and their slogan is that they ruin coffee for people. (meaning no one else compares.) I think Pikolo has ruined coffee for me. I don't love the nearby hotel. But, OMG, I DO freaking LOVE Pikolo. Got a cold brew for the drive back. Cold and fresh and tasty and potent. I also got the friendliest damn barista in North America. Though, that seems to be a general staffing theme. Thanks for ruining coffee for me. Pikolo is delectable! 12/24 Just got back from another Montreal holiday. I've determined that the only thing wrong with Pikolo is that they're not in my house! Every, every, every time I get a coffee there, I take a sip. I involuntarily roll my eyes into the back of my head, and I exclaim, "Oh my f---ing GAWD!" Pikolo is paradise! They've even got me on alternate oat milks, which I promptly buy and covertly bring back to the...
Read moreThis is an espresso bar where the environment, food, and coffee is excellent.
The barista who prepared my espresso seemed knowledgeable and conscientious about preparing my coffee - she weighed the dosing and output before every shot she poured. The shot was extracted fully. My particular coffee was explosively fruity but void of excessive sourness or bitterness.
The food was also very good. As a simplistic American, I ordered a plain croissant. The layers were light and flaky and the entire piece was very buttery. They have a small assortment of baked goods including breads and bagels.
The shop is tight - there's probably seating for 12 or so people comfortably. I believe there is an upstairs. Lots of natural light makes the space very relaxing.
I would have liked to see them serve water with their espresso as a default, although when I asked, it was quickly provided. It would also have been nice if they had fresh-roasted coffee available. The beans were from a roastery in BC. Unless they are paying extra to ship quickly, it's likely that the beans are a little old. But, of course, there may be little demand for fresh whole beans for sale.
Overall a fantastic experience. I went to Pikolo because it was close to downtown and Tunnel Espresso is closed on weekends (gasp!). I'm very...
