I had some family in town staying at a hotel near Momo's. For convenience, tired after a long Montreal day, we decided to order pizzas to the hotel. I called the pizzeria, and they informed me that they would not take my pickup order over the phone: I had to use a delivery app or come order in person. This was annoying, but not wanting to pay the delivery fee + tip for a ~2 block delivery, I went to the pizzeria to order in person and carry the pizzas back to the hotel.
There were no pizza prices listed on the menu board. It is clear that there had at one point been prices listed, but they were covered in black tape (see photo). Prices for other items and combo specials were listed, but this is a PIZZERIA we are at, so where are the pizza prices? I was not an informed consumer when I approached the cashier. I ordered two 3-topping Large pizzas, and the total came out to around 75 CAD. Of course there is a tip suggestion on the card-reader; I entered 10%. So about 40 CAD per 15 inch pizza (I didn't measure). Yikes. We were tired, my family was hungry, what is one to do?
Now began the wait for the pizza. It came out pretty quickly. The staff prepared the pizza very efficiently, in view of the customer, and the pizzas were ready to go in ~20 minutes. The pizza chef was wearing flip-flops/slides, which I found unusual, but no big deal.
While waiting, I looked around, and saw a few things, some good, most bad. There were spiders in their webs in most corners. There was a microwave positioned squarely behind the cashier behind the ordering counter. There were some lovely planters full of colorful flowers in the outdoor seating area, which gave me a smile.
Now for the most relevant and disappointing part: the pizzeria displayed a sign that the pizzeria offers a 10% discount for a 5-star Google review (see photo). It was too late for me, and I'll never come back, but rest assured, I would not be bought out of an honest review so easily. I was disappointed because I did research the establishment on Google maps before deciding to order the pizza there, and I found it acceptable based off of it's Google reviews. How many of the 5-star reviews pulling up this place's rating are entered to save the reviewer a few dollars? It's a shameful and dishonest practice, really.
Now for the pizza. It was okay. We were tired and hungry, we ate it. The sauce was very sweet, and the crust was just "okay". The toppings (especially the olives) would fly off of the pizza when a we picked up a slice. We ate all of both pizzas. We even had the leftovers for breakfast. It wasn't good. It was pizza. This place has "pizza" in the name: "Pizza Momo". I expected that a dedicated pizzeria would at least have a "good" pizza, especially for ~40 CAD per large 3-topping pie. There was no passion behind this pizza.
I think this place is Halal. I will say that the Halal pepperoni, while not quite tasting like "normal" pepperoni, was pretty good. If you are looking for a halal pizza, this place may be for you, but you deserve a better crust and sauce. The toppings were generous, but plentiful toppings cannot salvage a boring crust and a too-sweet sauce.
I'd honestly prefer a national pizza chain's pizza over this place's pizza, and I'd be saving some money ordering from a chain.
One additional note: the owners seem to reply to any honest negative reviews in bad faith and in a very unprofessional and unbecoming way, indicating that they are unresponsive to criticism and are not committed to improvement, as evidenced by their cardboard pizza. Read moreI was visiting from Toronto and I searched for Halal pizza in Montreal and “Pizza Momo” showed up as a great option with amazing reviews. Me and my husband decided why not give it a try and support a Muslim Halal business. We called in and ordered over the phone a 5 topping Large pizza with halal pepperoni as a meat option. We drove through the winter storm with excitement to grab our order, upon arrival I was greeted by the shop owner. He provided me with my food order and I instinctually decided to confirm the toppings. That’s when he replied “Green pepper pizza you ordered”? My response was I’m sorry there seems to be some confusion, I actually ordered a halal pepperoni to which he says NO you ordered green pepper. We went back and forth for a while until he gave me the option to buy the pizza that I did not order and he would make the one I did order but I would have to pay for that one also. I was flabbergasted and chose to forego that option and walked out the store. Thankfully I ended up finding another late night halal pizza spot around the corner that was able to get my order right. I would advise people that would like good customer service with potentially good food not...
Read moreIf I could give less than a one star to Pizza Momo in Montreal, I absolutely would. My experience there was absolutely disgusting, the owner tried making a pizza from scratch and the dough had visible mould on it and still tried to serve it as if nothing was wrong. When I pointed it out to the owner, instead of apologizing or offering to make things right, he argued with me and refused to give me a full refund. This is completely unacceptable and shows a total lack of hygiene and customer respect. The fact that they were even willing to serve mouldy food is shocking and raises serious concerns about their kitchen cleanliness and food safety standards. I strongly warn anyone considering eating here — do not go to this place unless you want to risk getting food poisoning. Health inspectors NEED TO TAKE THIS RESTAURANT DOWN. He’s a scammer, liar, and a cheat. After arguing with him to give my money back, he gave me only a portion of it back instead of giving my full refund talking about how the rest already got paid to the government. WHAT NONSENSE! TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE. They should be SHUT DOWN immediately and who knows what other shenanigans he’s running at...
