Great pasta and mediocre service! UPD below

Good things: We didn’t wait too long for our orders to arrive.

The wine selection was great!

Nice location and delicious food.

Not so good - SERVICE!

We booked a table for a special occasion for a friend. When we arrive we discover that they do not accept reservations for the terrace and we were the only one table seated inside (while the terrace was the whole point of booking).

When I entered a place waiters ignored me and didn’t even respond to my hello! Because we were the only table seated inside we were ignored for a good 20mins until I found a waitress that was willing to respond to me.

Overall service felt like we were not appreciated there and waiters just wanted us to be done with meals quickly and leave - we’ve got our bills without been able to finish our glasses even.

On top of not so pleasant experience we’ve got a recommendation to give 18% tip! Which felt like a last drop.

You would expect a better service for a pricey place like this one.

Update: the owner called a friend that booked a table and was very sincere in trying to understand what was wrong in our experience. Unfortunately, the staff is newly hired and didn’t get a proper training to start after lockdown. We got offered to come again so the restaurant can provide us with the best service. We haven’t come yet but the sincere gesture was nice to...

1/5 — Extremely Disappointing Service

We visited this restaurant as a group of 9 at 1:30 PM for their 3-course lunch menu. The restaurant wasn’t busy by any means. Two of us ordered something incredibly simple — linguini pasta with tomato sauce — while the rest ordered from the special menu.

At 2:10 PM, when no food at all had arrived yet, we informed the staff that we needed to leave by 2:30 PM because we were on a tour schedule. Instead of acknowledging the urgency, they continued at the same slow pace. At 2:20 PM, they finally brought out the starters (which was nothing special to brag about) for those who ordered the special menu, but the pasta still wasn’t served. In general the food should not have taken more than 10 minutes yet we waited nearly an hour for nothing.

We ultimately had to cancel our orders and leave at 2:37 PM without receiving our main courses. Not only did this make us late for our tour, but when we expressed our frustration, the staff argued with us and claimed we should have “said something sooner” — even though we clearly informed them at 2:10, and again before leaving. Paid $5 per person for the starters from the special menu.

The experience was unorganized, slow, and dismissive of customers’ time. Very disappointing, especially for something as basic as getting lunch served within a reasonable time.

Would not recommend, especially for groups or anyone...

We visited this restaurant after reading so many glowing reviews, but unfortunately, our experience didn’t live up to the hype.

The food was just okay, certainly not deserving of the 5-star praise we had seen. What really impacted our visit, though, was the poor service.

To begin with, we were never given any cutlery. Even when the food arrived, we still had to ask multiple times before receiving any and at one point, I ended up walking over myself to where they keep the utensils just so we could eat. That alone was disappointing.

There were no kids’ menu options, so we asked if our children could share one adult meal and whether we could get an extra plate to split it. The server agreed, but when the food came, he seemed unsure about providing the plate. We had to ask several more times just for a basic extra plate.

When we requested two takeaway containers at the end of the meal, we weren’t given any bags to carry them. I had to ask three different staff members before anyone brought one over.

Overall, our visit was frustrating and far from enjoyable. While the food was average at best, the disorganized and inattentive service made the experience worse. We would not return or recommend this place based on what we...

Trattoria Gio is a restaurant located in Old Port Montreal, which I visited on a Sunday in February. The restaurant had a great view of the walking street. The atmosphere inside was nice, but the restaurant was completely empty, which was unusual for a Sunday in Old Port. However, it was Super Bowl day, which may have affected the crowd. The staff was friendly and attentive, and I ordered two pizzas and one starter. The pizzas were Pizza Amanit D and Pizza Arugula E, both priced at 26 CAD and 28 CAD, respectively. The starter was Arancini, which cost 16 CAD. The quality of the food was standard for the price and location, and the taste was average. While there was nothing remarkable about the food, it was enjoyable. The portions were medium, and one pizza could easily feed two people, so I recommend sharing one pizza and ordering two appetizers. Overall, the experience at Trattoria Gio was standard. It's a good option for a quiet meal, but if you're looking for something extraordinary, there are other places in the area that might better fit your expectations for the price.
