I am baffled by the recent good reviews of this place. Genuinely wondering if these people went to the same place as we did. We came here for breakfast because we love old diners and this place looked great. My husband and I are pretty reasonable in our expectations of diners for breakfast. As long as it's hot and fast it's usually great. We went in for breakfast and there were only a couple other people there. We looked at the menu with shock at the prices. Everything seems to be separate. If you order eggs they do not come with home fries or anything. I ordered 2 eggs and toast for $6.75 with a side of home fries for an extra $4 or so. That's insane. I realize it's a lot cheaper than the tourist traps near the Falls but this is not acceptable. I ordered eggs over easy with brown toast. When it arrived the toast was simultaneously burnt and cold. The eggs were over medium on the way to being over hard. One of the yolks was broken. I can do a better job at home and I'm really bad at making fried eggs. The has browns were flavorless and also cold. My husband ordered french toast and it was literally scrambled egg covering white bread. No seasoning - no vanilla, no cinnamon or anything. It also took about 20 minutes for the breakfast to even arrive at the table. That is not how long it takes to make that when we were the only ones waiting for our food. The only good thing I can say about the place was that the coffee was OK and the waitress was very nice and apologetic about the wait. When my husband paid the owner asked how it was and he said it was OK and she wanted to challenge him on it! "Just ok?" He just said he didn't want to get into it and just wanted to pay. Everyone seemed miserable - the patrons, the waitresses that probably have their tips suffer for the extortionate pricing and poor...
Read moreTried this place 3 times and dont get these reviews. The first time, the side order of home fries or literally soaking in a plate of Grease. It was so gross we couldn't eat it. There was nothing particularly special about the eggs or the rest of the meal, the bacon was extremely salty. The second time we went we decided to try something recommended by people. So we tried the hot turkey sandwich. I don't know what the gravy was made of but it was nearly black like molasses! I couldn't get past the color of it and the flavor wasn't that great either. Again, I was baffled as to why there's so many good reviews. The french fries were terrible. Third time I went for another round of breakfast thinking perhaps the first time it was just bad luck but no, same problem. We also waited and Incredibly long amount of time and there was barely anybody in there. The waitress was extremely nice and kept apologizing for the wait as well. I felt...
Read moreMe and the boys had breakfast here this morning, and what a pleasant meal we had. The coffee was great, the bacon was perfect (Real, thick cut bacon - not that cheap stuff many other restaurants try to feed ya), eggs also perfect...food was also served quickly.
Our server was an amazing lady, and we made each other laugh a few times. We felt very welcomed like we were eating at our relatives house.
Nice indoor atmosphere. There is a cool diner style bar with stools at the front, and then the rest of the place has nice furnishing that gives you an old school, comforting feel.
This place really is a gem. Forget Denny's and the cheap low quality buffets...check out Bassel's and see for yourself.
This is my new breakfast spot anytime me and the boys come to Niagara to paint...
