We just spent the weekend at the Niagara Grandview Boutique Hotel in the King George Penthouse Suite. While some aspects of this room were really nice, it did not live up to the hype, and it definitely didn't feel worth the small investment we spent.
Pros: -Large spacious room -room had couches for seating and relaxing -Breakfast was good -large bathtub -15-20 min walk to the Falls -free parking.
Cons: -TV did not work the whole weekend -Toilet seat not bolted to the toilet -LOTS of spiders in the door frame and curtains to the balcony -Sliding shower door entrance is very narrow with no way to open it larger. -Trash under the large Armour, that I figured was just missed from the last guest and would be taken care of when housekeeping came in (it was still there after housekeeping came) -Front door to the inn is unlocked and working but once you walk down the walkway (which is highly overgrown) you can't use the 'steps' to the sidewalk because they are in great disrepair
Now, all of the issues with the room were addressed with staff, (except the door to the shower as there is clearly nothing to be done about that) If these issues had been corrected I would be leaving a much nicer review with more stars. Shortly after check in, we let the front desk staff know of the spiders, and asked if they would remove them so we can use the balcony. We were told "we can't come in the rooms when you are staying here" so we asked for a broom to know them down ourselves. She said she could bring us a broom. We went back to our room and tried to put a movie on. This is when we discovered that there was an issue with the TV. It would start the menu and then restart the menu after 30 seconds each time. When the front desk staff arrived with the broom we showed her the issue with the TV. She went to get another person. He couldn't get it to work either. He told us he it would have to be fixed in the morning. They brought us a remote with fresh batteries in hopes that would... fix the TV. It did not. Not much later we discovered the toilet seat was not bolted to the toilet. I am a handy person and thought it was just a loose bolt. I reached under the seat to tighten the bolt only to discover there was no bolt at all. Only the screw and no bolt. We went to bed, bored and disappointed as we were hoping to watch movies and relax. The next morning, we get breakfast and wait by the front desk a while before we head out to the Falls. Hoping to speak to the front desk staff. We then realize the front desk staff is serving breakfast and is too busy to chat about the issues in our room. Well the guy the night before said he would fix the TV in the morning so we decided to let the lady keep serving breakfast and we headed out. We arrived back shortly after lunch time to find the bed made and new towels but still trash under the Armour. 🤷🏽♀️ oh well not fun to look at but I'm definitely not going to clean it up. We discovered the TV was still not working and the toilet seat still unbolted. We went back down to the front desk. It was the same woman from the day before at check-in. I told her the TV was still not working, and the toilet seat is not attached to the toilet. She said the man from the night before was the resident tech wiz and since he couldn't fix it, they don't know what to do. I asked if someone could come fix the toilet seat and again I got the answer that they "can't come into our room during the stay - it's policy" I thought this was a bit weird since they definitely came in the night before for the TV and housekeeping was definitely in the room while we were away earlier. So we were again left with no resolution for either issue. We are movie people, we wanted to watch movies. If we had know there would be no TV we wouldn't have booked the room! We were having a rare weekend away from our children and wanted to relax and watch movies, I don't feel like this was too much to ask. So again we went to bed bored and resolved to be very careful with the toilet as an unbolted seat...

We’ve booked the Niagara Grandview Manor on 4 occasions over the past 3 years. It has been our go to destination in Niagara Falls. Not anymore. Our recent stay was aggravating, stressful and an unbelievable nightmare. We booked directly with the Inn to ensure the accuracy of our accommodations. Being assured our room was renovated with specific amenities including a covered balcony, which was key and did NOT have, it was merely another tired room with no redeeming features in an area of the Inn that was dark, dingy, dirty and STILL under construction after THREE years.
We addressed our confusion and disappointment with the Front Desk. We were offered a refund or a different room in the Villa, a newly acquired property nearby (with NO balconies on depressing, aged, filthy and uncared for grounds, riddled with litter, which looked and felt like an abandoned graveyard). We switched rooms. Having had to reschedule a Spring booking with ample notice given (PAID IN FULL IN ADVANCE) we were told in March by the owner he would “hang on to our money until next time”, so we didn’t believe we’d actually ever see a refund.
On our first evening we noticed food in Tupperware containers in the kitchen (off limits to guests) and assumed it was staff so thought little of it. 30 minutes later however, a food delivery arrived and a group gathered, eating and socializing. Their disrespectful noise and chatter continued until midnight. We didn’t complain even though this was clearly against the establishment’s strict guest guidelines.
Our second night, however, was an inexcusable NIGHTMARE. We opened the front door to discover the Villa redolent of disgusting burned cooking oil and the nauseating smell of greasy food. At least 6 people, all without masks, were loudly carrying on and eating on the main floor below. We endured breathing and choking on this as it had overtaken our room. After a VERY long hour, we asked the other ‘guests’ who they were, why they were cooking and eating in the Villa when the guest rules don’t allow it and requested they open a window or turn on a fan. No one appeared to understand except one young woman who said flippantly they were “guests”, were cooking “Hot Pot” then sarcastically suggested “we should join them’… a shocking derogatory remark in a COVID environment, to join people you don’t know, are not socially distancing or wearing masks and eat with strangers whom you are unable to communicate with.
After this obnoxious encounter, it was impossible to enjoy the evening, our room or a much needed soak in the Jacuzzi we had paid a premium price for. The evening was completely destroyed. Ruined. We had to open all our windows and retire after packing up early knowing we would be leaving at first light. We dropped off our key and left with no breakfast - once a highlight at the Grandview - now reduced and bland as any of the other options available at any number of ‘Motor Inns’ - at a fraction of the cost. More disturbingly, our room was advertised as AVAILABLE for the nights of OUR stay on Airbnb for 30% LESS. Completely exhausted and upset, we just needed to go home without having to deal with an unpleasant, indifferent encounter with the owner.
As our stay was unlike any other, we emailed the owner after returning home regarding our experience. He ignored us. We had to follow up days later to get his attention, only to be blasted with an aggressive, condescending, arrogant response accusing us of not having the ‘courage' to mention anything at check out, of always complaining and ignoring ALL our comments and concerns about our experience.
We’ve left positive, glowing reviews for both the Grandview and its incredible staff in the past. The front-line and housekeeping team have always gone above and beyond to be accommodating and welcoming. So despite the Inn and our most recent experience being upsetting and deplorable, they were fortunately the only bright note...
Read moreCleanliness: While the room itself was good, the mugs in the dining room were dirty. I picked two mugs—one had coffee residue at the bottom, and the other had pink lipstick marks on it. (You can see the attached photo.) Please ensure that mugs and dishes are properly cleaned before being set out, especially after being taken out of the dishwasher.
Staff at check-in: The lady was nice and pleasant.
Staff at breakfast: The lady in charge was rude and discriminatory. Upon arrival, she asked if we were there for coffee or breakfast. We replied “both,” but she insisted on checking our room key as if she didn’t believe us. She didn’t ask for a room key from anyone else who came for breakfast.
At the time we arrived, there was one couple already in the dining room, and three more groups arrived during our stay. She greeted everyone warmly, explaining things like, "You can sit anywhere. This spot is nice because there’s no direct sunlight, this is the history of the building," etc. For the couple already there, she asked three times if they needed hot sauce or anything else. However, she never offered us the same courtesy or even welcomed us. When I asked for help opening the hot water bottle, she responded with a nasty attitude. Her behavior was incredibly rude. Her discriminatory behavior was clearly visible to everyone in our team People should not be treated differently based on their skin color. That is not how customer service works.
Rooms: There was no closet or coat hanger. Guests had to place their clothes on the ground. When we asked about this, the receptionist mentioned that people had been complaining about it, but management had not taken any action. It wouldn’t cost much to at least provide a coat hanger.
Washroom: Excellent.
Coffee and Beverages: The coffee was incredibly weak, more like water. Please improve the quality of the coffee. On a positive note, the tea selection and pastries were quite good.
Breakfast Quality: The egg omelet was tasty, while the crepe was extremely dry and not fresh. It was surely a leftover from the previous day.
The hotel doesn’t look anything like the photos. It’s an average place, not worth the money, and I do not recommend it. The only good thing is that it’s closer to...
