What a hidden gem! The owner is chef, bartender AND server. It is a dining experience, not to be rushed. EVERYTHING is homemade and cooked to order. The venue is small and intimate, best for couples.
We started with a a Mulberry Vodka and Raspberry Courvoisier, both delightful. You must try the garlic bread...the bread is thick and homemade. Also try the achocha salad, homegrown, homemade with vinegar and onions. Different and light. Must try the Cheese Triangles...not a ravioli, not a pierogi. A light cheese filling in the dumpling with a butter sauce. Really delicious. Entrees: my husband had the Gypsy Weiner Schnitzel and I had the Smoked Pork Potato Dumplings. Hands down, the best Weiner Schnitzel he's ever had. Cooked to perfection and the Gypsy style with a little kick made it extra special. The smoked meat in the dumplings would challenge the best pitmaster, and it was wrapped in a potato dumpling shell that was incredible.
We got her handmade walnut crescent cookies to go because 1) we were stuffed! and 2) a group of loud tourists stumbled in with 2 screaming kids. The venue is small, suited best for couples. Suggest reservations. Not a place for children or large, loud groups. Please, keep them both in the loud, tacky tourist area and don't ruin the experience for others! PS, the cookies were also phenomenal. Save room for her homemade apple strudel and tell us...
Read moreBeautiful, special, and memorable dining experience. Highly recommended to call in advance and make a reservation -- this is not a standard commercial restaurant, but an individual's labour of love, which you taste with every bite and feel with every bit of care in the service. We passed by on what we thought would be the opening hours based on the advertised information, and found it to be already closed. We simply called to make a reservation for the following day, and the owner kindly opened up on a day that she normally doesn't open to serve us. We had the place to ourselves, and felt individual care and attention to detail with every interaction. It is one woman who owns, operates, cooks, and prepares the drinks all by herself, and she is an exceptional cook and warm and remarkable person. So, expect a slow but personalized and cared-for experience. It is quite expensive, but compared to the majority of restaurants in Niagara Falls that cost the time but serve the same mediocre generic food and drink, here you get what you pay for. Thoughtful dishes and organic vegetables grown in their garden. My wife is gluten-free and I am vegan and we appreciated the delicious options available to us. We both have Central/Eastern European roots and so the food reminded us of what our grandmothers used to make, with all of the home-made care, but also the exceptional craft of...
Read moreWarning! The reviews for this restaurant are very misleading. I do not live in Niagara and just picked this place out on the Internet. I am not sure how it has become highly ranked on websites like Yelp & Tripadvisor. I was thoroughly disappointed with my choice.
Below is s list of reasons to not go.
They were feeding cats on the front porch. When I noticed this I should have not even walked through the front door.
We were the only people there during dinner and likely the entire day.
The food was poor to OK. By the time we got there I was starving so this may be an overestimate.
Food was over priced. With a glass of wine, appetizer & tip total was $120 for 2 people. I would have done better going...
