From Disappointed to Less Disappointed
Gave this place another try after my disappointing first visit.
First of all, fries were WAAY better, not burnt tasting. Still no vinegar, plain white makes me happy, needn't be malt. No vinegar seems very American, the land of only ketchup with your fries.
Ordered the beef stew, which was a scant bowl of gravy and veg. It was the end of the day, so I guess the meat had all been scooped out by then, a couple of pea-sized pieces of beef and 2-3 kidney bean sized chunks. However, it was tastily prepared so next time will order earlier in the day - but I would rather be told there's no stew left than have the pot scraped - I would have ordered something else.
Wish it had been 5 star, I certainly prefer those experiences, but am convinced that it's worth trying again, with higher hopes. Keeping my fingers crossed.
ADDENDUM:
Given how Patrick the owner took the time to reply, I will definitely go back to give this place a second chance, avoiding the Hoisin BBQ sauce this time. If the fries come out too well done I will send them back and ask for less well (I could taste underneath the overdoneness that they could be great). However, Patrick, I was looking for plain white vinegar, which should be easy to provide. Thanks!
Was so ready to love this place. I really like small menus because you know they can do each item well. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich meal, with fries as a side (the smell of fries was heavenly, couldn't resist).
Did not enjoy my sandwich at all. The bun was great, but all I could taste was sugar! More like a dessert than a pork sandwich - the sweetness overpowered everything. I do add sugar to my homemade BBQ sauce, but it's balanced with a vinegary tang. This was just - SWEET.
And my fries were 30 seconds short of burnt. So well done that I couldn't finish them (so that's a good thing, right?). And no vinegar for your fries! I asked, and was told they had none.
Based on this, really don't know if I'll be going back. Probably not. PS. Staff was very nice...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place. I read all the amazing reviews on yelp and was super excited to try it. I love when restaurants puts a twist to Asian food! Mind you the reviews were all old over a year ago. Since COVID I did noticed most restaurants quality post COVID has gone down.
Ambiance: It's pretty small with a few tables. Decor is pretty cute and modern. Also super clean with one unisex washroom. You order at the counter and seat yourself like a fast food place.
Service: Service was good. The lady took our order and the food came pretty quick. We also got there at 1:30pm so it was empty.
Food: We ordered a easy as pie milkshake which is like you apple pie in a milkshake! Pretty cool idea. The pics on the website looks great. However in reality it didn't look like the website pic at all. Just white milkshake. There are tiny chunks of apple/ cookies and a hint of cinnamon. But overall tasteless and not sweet. It's was like I was drinking ice milk with some texture. I was not impressed. We only took a couple of sips and it left a weird after taste so we didn't end up finishing it and threw the rest out.
To share we got the Kimchi poutine. It was essentially fries that were not that crispy soaked with Kimchi and some mayo on top. It was ok a little underwhelming.
The 3 sandwiches we got were different so we can try them all: Sriracha honey Karaage chicken sandwich. The chicken was a bit soggy maybe from the sauce. The bun was fresh. The lettuce inside was a bit wilted. Pho beef banh mi sandwich. The beef was a bit dry and the banh mi was tasteless with no flavour Bbq pull pork sandwich. It was sweet and flavourful but again too much sauce made the sandwich a bit soggy.
Pricing is fair. But probably won't come back. For $50 I can get better...
Read moreGod, where do I even begin with these guys. They are absolutely, 100% the best fried chicken joint in town. My brother has had their kimchi and braised beef burgers and swears by them. I am a simple man, so its double kaarage sandwiches for me. Their milk shakes are sublime, apple pie and oreo is so decadent that you will be really feeling it after you are done. Keep in mind, that everything to the best of my knowledge is made fresh and in-house so the natural flavours really emanate through their food. Especially in the dairy goods, which is going to taste "different" then atypical places that use a lot of pasteurized or artificial ingredients , it also is going to make you feel more full. Just a heads up, because if you order a burger and a shake, you should definitely cancel the rest of your day because you'll need to take a nap afterwards haha.
I don't like their selection of fries, so I'm not a big fan of their poutine. But I highly suggest you try the breaky poutine at least once. Their is something about oozing egg yolk meshing with the gravy and the subtle rigidness of the hot fries with the malleable texture of the sausage that makes it phenomenal.
Also the staff and management/owners are phenomenal people, I've never had one issue whatsoever. Genuinely great people.
I wish you guys nothing but the best of success, hopefully you guys will massive success and open stores all over. Great stuff so far.
P.S: Please do golden, crispy fries without the skin on haha, I'll double your revenue just by myself. Your gravy is bueno, your cheese...
