My friend and I had reservations at another restaurant when we happened to come across the Everly. We decided to go in to have a glass of wine prior to our 6pm reservation, in order to kill time. Neither of us had ever been to the Everly before and what a wonderful gastronomical discovery it turned out to be! We sat at the bar and ordered the chicken pate and a glass of the PEC orange wine, both of which blew us away. Needless to say, we cancelled our reservation at the other place and decided to stay at the Everly for supper. Although small, the menu has been developed so there is something for everyone. Steak, seafood and pasta. My friend and I each had a pasta dish and we were thoroughly pleased and impressed by the freshness and quality of each dish. We even had dessert, the peach tart, which was absolutely heavenly and perfectly made without being overly sweet. A perfect finish to a five-star meal. The atmosphere at the Everly is calm and relaxing and decorated in an updated Art Deco, very sophisticated without being overdone. We were there on Wednesday evening and the place was almost filled which is unusual these days in the restaurant business but shows you that others, too, have discovered this lovely little jewel in the heart of downtown Kingston. One thing I have not mentioned is the service. Absolutely outstanding. Our server Jordan, understood and shared how each dish is made, with an emphasis on the Everly's farm to table approach. He takes great pride in his work and his attention to detail made us feel like very special customers even though this was our first visit. And it won't be our last. It's been a long time since I've had such a wonderful dining experience and I am making the Everly my go-to place whenever I'm...
Read moreI had called the Everly about three weeks ago about accommodation for a dietary restriction and I was told by a lovely person that that would be no problem at all. Everything is made from scratch and they look forward to seeing me. So I could not make it to the restaurant that week as it was closed on Sunday but I was excited to make it there on a Saturday. A waiter met us at the door and I told him about my phone call and my dietary needs. I am not sure if the waiter didn't like their job, or was having a hard day. It was a difficult conversation but they did go chat to the chef for me as I was still concerned about getting served something that I may not be able to eat. So I asked them if I could talk to the chef and he said no. There was only one other couple in the restaurant and it was early in the evening. I wouldn't have asked otherwise. I just thought that would save the waiter time and my group at the table. They did eventually go ask the chef if they would talk to me and the chef came to our table. I thought this may all turn around any minute as I am sure the chef could clear this up with a quick chat. Boy was I wrong. The chef told me they cook everything from scratch but yet they cannot accommodate me basically at the same time. He was borderline rude to me and one other person at my table. I felt like they just didn't care. I felt sad and disappointed for the other folks with me as the menu looked great. But feeling like no one cared about you and your table didn't sit well. So it is...
Read moreCame here with my husband for date night and it came highly recommended to us. The waiter was nice, gave us some space but was available for order, questions, and check. He mentioned that everything on the menu is locally sourced from farmers and businesses in the area, which we were impressed with and glad to hear as we try to support local businesses as much as we can. He did also mention their menu changes by season, which makes sense given their local sourcing.
The bread was really good and fresh, the food was delicious though quite pricey. We ordered a main, drinks, and dessert. I especially loved the dessert "eaton mess" it was very fluffy and light so it was perfect after a meal (not excessive). I should mention we went in August so this was a summer menu. I attached some pictures of the food.
The ambience was modern with mid-century vibe.. i liked the wallpapers, the tables and the centerpieces. The washrooms were really clean and modern looking though they are downstairs in the basement and i did not see an elevator so probably not accessible for wheelchairs. I did find the sounds to be quite louder than i imagined.. the music was a nice volume but i found that all the tables and patrons were kind of loud maybe because they were in groups rather than couples? There is a sidewalk patio but it wasn't anything special at all no decorations or greenery or umbrella (at least not that i remember).
Overall a 4/5.. i would come back for a special...
