wanted to try it out but didn't get the chance :/ more of a PSA on the parking situation if you're unfamiliar with dt oshawa
i made a wrong turn trying to get to the parking lot across the street from the cafe, literally was idling in the lot for 2-3 minutes trying to punch in the directions for the lot so i wouldn't miss my turn next time (its on a one way street and i'm a nervous driver). i was aware that it wasn't customer parking lot so i had my hazards on while i was figuring the GPS.. had someone come out telling us to leave.
no 'are you lost?' or 'can i help you with something' or even assume we were going to be customers - just told us to leave. even just giving a reason like 'hey we have a vehicle that needs that spot, please leave' would have been fine. felt rushed and unwelcomed so i just left and drove to a gaming cafe in scarbs instead. honestly speaking it was only a moment's interaction but it turned me off enough to not want to try and come back. i guess take public transit if you want to come visit or don't make mistakes...
Read moreI can't fully convey just how awesome this place is. There's such a vast, varied and locally sourced selection of beverages and the food here is always delicious. However, it's the way I always feel so genuinely at home here and so welcome every single visit. The staff here are brilliant humans and create such a safe space for everyone. They're kind, compassionate, funny, skilled, nerdy (I say that as a compliment) and passionate about what they do. I deeply appreciate the work, effort and ethics they display as well as the fantastic humans that they are too.
They have a varied and brilliant collection of board games both to play and for sale and are accommodating of all players no matter how experienced a person is/isn't.
They were phenomenal during Covid and really went above and beyond to keep community members feeling safe. They continue to do so. But overall, these words don't really do the place or the staff justice they deserve. Check it out and I promise, the moment you step through that door, you'll instantly feel safe, welcome...
Read moreLeaving room for improvement. The experience was good, the game selection was very good. The drinks and meals were presented in fun ways with thematic titles that really sold the experience. The range of tapped local beers was great. The look and feel of the place really felt like the owners had really put their heart into it and it shows. The downsides weren't big but noticeable. The games, while organized alphabetically, did not really lend themselves to an uninformed visitor. If you didn't already know something about a title youd have little to help you find the right fit. Staff was not helpful in that regard. I felt we were, at all times, left to our own devices. We went for drinks rather than being approached about refills for example. Not a big problem, but you notice it. Perhaps Brew wizards is meant for the gamers gamer, by that I mean the informed and aloof player who wants no insight from staff, and if so, so be it. Again, my entire experience was a good one but there is room to improve and I will definitely...
