Poke & Pocket — Local services in Oshawa

With great disappointment, I regret to inform anyone looking for a quality Poké bowl… you won’t find it here. All of the bowls have pretty much same ingredients with the difference being the proteins. Pineapple ingredient comes from a can and has a terrible aftertaste that lingers and is very unpleasant. There is no option to customize, and the rice was either under cooked or from yesterday. The corn and the edamame were a bit hard to chew in texture. No crispy tempura bits, no crispy onions, and no sesame seed toppings. The salmon tasted OK although I think it was previously frozen. Did not taste fresh like other Poké bowl restaurants I have tried. That Poké bowl taste I was craving was not satisfied, but instead under delivered. If the owner of the establishment is reading this, PLEASE substitute the canned pineapple for fresh pineapple in the least, and perhaps add mango as an alternative. I The overall freshness of the bowl just wasn’t there.

The ingredients and the preparation table were not visible, however, the person who prepared my food, did put on plastic gloves prior to doing so.

There is no washroom at all, and I was already holding out for quite some time so this made it extremely uncomfortable. I ended up using the dive bar across the street and their washroom is only available to customers. The atmosphere is kind of bleak, and the place had a bit of an unpleasant smell.

Most likely, I will not return to this establishment and would not recommend him this place.

I should also add that the only dish I had was the salmon Poké bowl and did not try...

I ordered the daily special: spicy salmon Don. It was absolutely delicious. I was really surprised by the sauce they used. It was chogochujang (special red pepper paste made for eating with hwae/sashimi). The sauce was tasty. It was a bit spicy but it still had a lot of flavor. All the ingredients were fresh and aesthically pleasing. I am really impressed and I love that Oshawa has a place that serves Korean Style Spicy Poke. I am excited to go back and try the other poke bowls.

Edit: came back to a 2nd visit and had the Tuesday special (spicy salmon & tuna and salmon tofu pockets) sashimi combined with yubu chobap/Inari sushi (rice stuffed in beancurd). Was super tasty. Everything I've had so far has been delicious. I'll definitely visit again to try all the different menu items. I had the Spicy Salmon Don, it was spicy but flavorful. If you aren't good with spicy, use less sauce. But it will still be delicious. I also had the Tuesday special pocket tofu (spicy salmon, spicy tuna, salmon), they were a tiny bit spicy but very enjoyable. The sashimi was all fresh and the portions are very generous.
