Fionn MacCool's — Restaurant in Oshawa

We read the reviews about Finn MacCool’s and it seemed promising. I made reservations a week in advance, for a surprise 30th birthday dinner for my sister. Reservation was for 17 people for 530pm.

The service was awful and so was the food.

We didn’t get to order our food/drinks until 6pm (one person didn’t get a drink until dinner because the server never was present).

The food unfortunately didn’t arrive to the tables until 7:10pm. For some reason all the adults were served first and the children/toddlers had to wait an extra 5 to 10 minutes for there’s to come.

Everyone there was too scared to complain but everything tasted awful. My husband burger was super dry and over cooked. Every single one of the chicken quesadillas, tasted like reheated day old chicken that was placed in a microwave.(not like there was much chicken there; photos below). There was no cheese to hold them together and the tortilla shells turned into crunchy chips from being over cooked and tell apart when biting into them.

After finishing eating, I had to find our server 25 minutes later to ask for the bills for our tables. (Didn’t pay for the bills until 8:10pm)

Wasn’t surprising because our server was only present for drinks and food delivery; ex: my son looked around for the ketchup bottle and found it at their station and took it to use at the tables,

So in total we arrived at 5:30pm and didn’t get out there until almost 8:30pm. (Also the restaurant wasn’t even busy).

This was our family and friends first experience and definitely last so horrible because the reviews say much...

Fionn's in Ajax was a favourite for my partner and I. Now that it's closed, we decided to make the trip to Oshawa to pick up our favourite meal from Fionn's as a Friday night treat - veggie fish tacos with poutine.

We called the order ahead and were told it would be 15-20 min; I told them we were about 20 min away so that's perfect. When we arrived (20 mins later), we were told our food hadn't been started and were told to take a seat and wait. This was a bit awkward and annoying as we had made the drive and were pretty hungry, but we smiled, took our seat, and waited.

We were asked by a few different servers if we had been taken care of yet, and a couple other people asked us to confirm what we ordered. It felt very repetative and clumsy for us. Again, not a big deal, but very awkward.

We finally got our food, paid, and took it home. The poutine was made with shredded cheese, which we had never seen before. We suspect the cook made the decision to make the poutine vegan, as it had that distinct vegan cheese flavour, but we didn't ask for that. I understand the confusion may have been from the veggie tacos, but I would have preferred someone asked for clarification instead of going ahead. We both hate vegan cheese so that went untouched after the first few bites.

Overall, the tacos were fine, the poutine was vile, and the service was clumsy. It wasn't worth the hassle honestly. Unfortunately we won't be returning, which is sad as it's quite a nostalgic...

This place does not care to accommodate people with food allergies. Couldn’t get what I wanted because there was Dairy in it and was told the location could not make the dish without dairy so I had to order something I didn’t really want because I was hungry and was out for dinner with my family. I originally wanted the crispy cauliflower but asked if they could leave out the eggs and the buttermilk and the answer was no, so I had to order fries instead and when they came there was a clump of lint in the fries. Considering so many people have food allergies you would think they may want to try and have menu items that they can modify for this reason if need be. I understand not everything will be this way but something as simple as fried cauliflower without any dairy shouldn’t be an issue. The food here is good but the service is very subpar and it is not just during this visit that I’m talking about. I have been here many times for drinks and each time you have to almost fight to get your servers attention because they will take long once you’re seated to take your drink order and once they finally do you have to wait 20 minutes to get said drink and are barely checked on between the drinks arriving and any food you might have ordered coming. This place isn’t terrible but it’s not good either. At least at other places the service is better and they are more willing to...
