I usually only leave reviews when an experience is either truly exceptional or especially disappointing — unfortunately, this was the latter.

When I arrived, the staff were friendly and welcoming, and I had high hopes. I ordered the Sopa Azteca, described as having a guajillo broth. It's one of my favourite Mexican dishes and I've had it in several authentic restaurants. It looked great when it arrived (picture attached). I'm convinced what I got was Campbell’s tomato soup from a can — dressed up with a few avocado slices, a dollop of sour cream, and some tortilla strips to pass it off as something it definitely wasn’t. There wasn’t the slightest hint of chili or spice, and it was lacking in salt. I ate half the bowl while I waited for the rest of my order because I was so hungry.

I also ordered the chicken tostadas. The menu said nothing about onions (I have an aversion to onions, raw or cooked, when they're chunky. Weird, I know, but because of this I always check if they are listed). The tostadas arrived loaded with them — more onion than chicken. I politely let the server know that I couldn’t eat onions prepared that way and that the menu didn’t mention them. He tried to point it out on the menu, realized I was right, and took the plate away. No apology, no offer to replace it.

To their credit, they didn’t charge me for the tostadas (which I would expect), but by that point the experience had gone downhill. I paid for my bowl of canned soup and left hungry and disappointed.

There are too many great Mexican restaurants around to waste your time...

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Mexitaco was so poor that it feels necessary to share and hopefully spare others the disappointment.

From the moment we stepped in, the ambience felt completely off. It’s way past new year, yet the place still seems to be celebrating Halloween dark, cluttered, and just uncomfortable. It didn’t feel welcoming at all; instead, it gave off eerie, confused vibes like they hadn't bothered updating the decor or paying attention to seasonal relevance.

Customer service was absolutely ridiculous. The staff seemed to have no clue how to speak respectfully or professionally to anyone for that matter. No greeting, no acknowledgment of delay, and certainly no apology or polite tone. Instead, we were met with what felt like a superiority complex as if they were doing us a favor by serving us. Any questions or reasonable requests were met with attitude or dismissiveness. There was no sense of responsibility or basic customer courtesy. Hospitality was completely lacking.

Now, for the food, which was supposed to be the saving grace it just wasn’t. The tacos came in tiny portions that looked sad on the plate. They were not authentic, lacked flavor, and didn’t justify the hype this place somehow has. We left still hungry and totally dissatisfied. The prices don’t match the quality or quantity complete waste of money.

To sum it up overhyped, underwhelming, and overpriced. There’s a clear lack of respect for customers, both in how they’re treated and what they’re served. Save your money and your time. You...

We ordered takeout and had the tacos de birria, machete de birria and tacos de chorizo because I really wanted some chorizo, too. Since it was takeout I only got to see the atmosphere quickly while setting up. But it looked cute inside, like a good local date night kind of place.

Both birria dishes were fantastic. I'd never had a machete before but it sounded tasty and googling pictures made it look good, and it didn't disappoint.

The chorizo tacos were very flavorful but a bit greasy. BUT, it's chorizo so you don't order them because you're looking for health food. So it was exactly the grease I was looking for.

The red and green salsas that everything came with were really good, and the green salsa was amazing with the chorizo.

The tacos are small shells but overflowing with food, street taco style. Don't let the small size fool you, it's packed and fills you up quickly. Between the quantity in the tacos and the quality of the fillings the servings are deceptive. Gauge it with your stomach, not your eyes. Think like food truck style tacos but better.

I'm giving this place a perfect 5 but I wish they had a taco sampler platter that lets you order four tacos together to try a bunch.

We're looking forward to trying more on the menu and checking out the breakfast menu that...

To truly immerse yourself in the vibrant beauty of Mexico, a visit here is essential. The cuisine, the ambiance, the people – simply extraordinary. As for the food, we opted for a unique approach: with four of us, we simply asked the server to bring whatever they recommended. Let me tell you, they didn't hesitate and certainly didn't disappoint. Without a second thought, we eagerly indulged. Take a look at the photos – the homemade nachos were undeniably authentic, a pure taste of Mexican deliciousness far beyond anything store-bought. I cannot praise the staff enough. We arrived at Mexitaco at 12:30 AM to find them cleaning, yet we were greeted by smiling, enthusiastic faces. We almost left, thinking they were about to close due to the evident cleanliness. We've already planned a return visit for dinner with a larger group. This place is a true gem. Do yourself a favor and treat your palate to an elevated experience of flavor.
