Very peaceful place inside the Time Square plaza with some amazing vegetarian and vegan food. It is run by ladies who seem to be the devotees of the Chinmaya mission.
Food: We went for the Daal (lentil soup), Mexican Lasagna and a Sweet Potato Burger. Daal was actually a side to the burger. Having said that, it was absolutely delicious - very homely and loved every bit of it. The Sweet Potato Burger was great as well - the patty was amazing, the tomato slide was great (although, could have been a little thinner) and the sprouts made the overall burger extremely healthy. Mexican Lasagna was good - great taste and the veggies+sprouts went well with it. Before leaving, we went for Honey Carob drink and a Cafe Au Lait. While the Honey Carob was quite good, Cafe Au Lait was terrible - largely because it was too watery and pretty much bland. So, for coffee, this is not the place.
Ambiance: Very much living up to its name, the place is very peaceful. There were many paintings, antiques and books available inside. It doesn't have a large seating space but a very neat and clean set up.
Staff: The ladies operating the place were really nice and friendly. While the steaming hot soups were ready already with self-serve, the rest of the meal didn't take much time to come.
Overall, a great place to be - nothing high profile but a very humble setting and a great healthy food. Being in the Byward market area, it is also very close to all the major attractions - Parliament, National Gallery, Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica etc. Definitely...
Read moreLocated in the heart of the city, Peace-Garden vegetarian restaurant is a hidden gem for those seeking delicious and flavorful plant-based meals. Their daily curries are a true standout and a culinary delight for any food enthusiast.
I recently had the pleasure of trying their dal and the Thai style green curry, both of which were exceptional. The dal was hearty, nutritious, and packed with savory spices that created a symphony of flavors on my taste buds. The Thai style green curry, with its rich coconut milk base and fragrant herbs, transported me to the bustling streets of Thailand with each spoonful.
What sets Peace-Garden apart is not only the quality of their food but also the attention to detail and love put into each dish. The freshness of the ingredients and the expertly crafted recipes truly shine through in every bite.
The ambiance of the restaurant is serene and inviting, creating a peaceful dining experience. The staff is friendly, and always ready to recommend dishes and accommodate dietary preferences.

Read moreWe chose this restaurant based off of reviews. Showed up at 5:45pm on a Saturday because it says it closes at 7pm. Walked by the first employee who didn’t look up at us once and the other guy at the cash stood there texting or googling on his phone not acknowledging us. We stood there waiting for him, still on his phone… until I said “hi!” And my husband asked if we just sit anywhere. And the guy (still on his phone) said: “you have 15 minutes”. huh?! “Yeah we close in 15 minutes so you have 15 minutes”. Honestly, this was by far the weirdest exchange I’ve had with a server/cook or owner. Meanwhile the other guy never looked up. I understand how annoying it is to have people show up 15 minutes before a restaurant closes (despite it being posted open ‘till 7) but that could have been dealt with wayyyyy better than that. Like if you don’t look at us and acknowledge us… what? What do you expect is going to happen? We will never support your restaurant because customer service matters. That was...
