I have not been to Houston Pizza for quite a while and after this visit I probably won't be back soon, atleast not under the same circumstances. Went in on Thursday evening to sit in the dining room side and have supper. Immediately I noticed that it was incredibly loud inside due to large groups in the dining area. I was slightly apprehensive about eating there because it was other customers and not much to do with the restaurant and was probably around 9pm. We waited around at the entrance for a few minutes before being sat. The bar and dining room were filled with tons of people. The lady who sat us appeared to be the owner or a manager, I asked her if there was an event on why it was packed in there. She said that this was how it was every Thursday because they have triples on special. Well looking around I am thinking it is not asking people for ID is more so the special because most people looked to be barely out of high school if at all. About 10 minutes after being sat we had our drink order taken. I decided to try a rum and cola triple on the special. The drink showed up about 10 minutes after that at room temperature and with no chance of there being 3 shots of liquor in it (1.5 - 2 at most). I switched to water for the rest of the meal. We ordered some nachoes to split and an entree each. Most of the entrees here come with a side of caesar salad. Regardless of what you may read in this review or any other, it is all worth it to try their caesar salad if you have never had it before. The salad is exceptional. I went for the chicken fingers and fries, a solid option. I did attempt to order it without the veggies (not because I dislike veggies) but because the liquid from them turns the bottom chicken finger into a soggy mess that isn't worth eating by the time it gets from the kitchen to your table. As you can see in the photo that obviously didn't go my way. The nachos came out with the entrees which was a bit awkward. I did try and order the nachos with ground beef added. Also didn't go my way (paid for it). One thing I did not read on the menu was that the nachos had mozzarella on them. If I had noticed that I likely wouldn't have ordered them. The mozzarella holds the chips together a lot better than all cheddar and doesn't rip apart easily. But that is personal preference. The bathroom was near impossible to use because it was a revolving door of the other customers going in there to have a line or two of illicit substances. In fact, when we were heading out we learned that most (male) customers who actually needed to use the washroom went outside to do so in the parking lot. Absolutely do not bring children to this restaurant after dark on a Thursday and if you're not interested in a loud bar atmosphere I would recommend finding a different day or time to go to Houston Pizza. I did debate for quite a while if I should write this review at all. We were certainly in the minority of customers that were not looking for a bar scene and it is difficult to judge a place based on their customers. Secondly, I know that the way the economy is restaurants need to stay competitive and Houston Pizza has a strategy that certainly gets customers into their establishment which is good. I really try not to be a "Karen" with my reviews of places while still being transparent and honest. For that reason I rated it a 2 star overall but was very close to a 3 star. The food I gave 4 stars because the mozzarella on the nachos is more or less a personal preference. I do know this restaurant is capable of a better atmosphere under other circumstances and that my experinece is perhaps actually what some customers are looking for so I gave it a 2 star. I cannot stress enough, do not bring your children later in the evening. The service was truly poor. I recognize that it was busy, but the large tables of people that were much closer in type to the 2 servers working the dining area appeared to be getting rather...
Read moreWe read the reviews and decided to try this place. The food was very disappointing! We ordered dry rib entrée and kid chicken finger. Those were like pre procced food from Macain's frozen box! Fries were similar to MacDonald's, but more salty. They were brought to us within 5 mins of ordering! The trigger point for me to leave a review was the side salad that was included with entrée. It was barely fitting in a 6 inches side dish, with a paste of Greek dressing and sprinkle of feta cheese. The vegetable is not even cut properly, seem like the chef just grab from a salad bag at Walmart. Still, they charged us 4 dollar extra because it was a "Greek salad" , not just a mall food court quality salads with Greek dressing. when reasoning, they blame us in public for not reading the menu carefully. I would gladly pay good money for a decent upgrade Greek salad, not some vegetable with Greek dressing. There are photos posted by other reviewers, (some left good reviews) please pay attention to the salad for yourself. Was that a mall food court quality salad with Greek dressing, or a upgrade Greek salad?
Like buying anything on amazon or booking a hot vacation. Please read the bad reviews first! Those experience are quite often, REAL! I have lived in Regina for more than 20 years. Getting used to food quality at local restaurants such as Trifon's and BP, We are very disappointed about the food quality at Houston Pizza Quance. I wouldn't comment on their pizza cause I haven't tried. However, I think decent restaurants should at the bare minimum, get their fries and salad right. The fries and salad were too disappointing. About the dry rib and chicken finger, they were too dry and too salty. My son said he had was better ones at the rink. I think we can get better ones from the costco freezer!
The owner said he has been running the business for 57 years. I guess he must have a lot of friends who got used to his mall food court quality food and at the same time propping up his business with good reviews. I can't be one of them. I stand by my experience and my opinion. Restaurant business is tough! I am astonished how someone can run a restaurant that looks decorated, charge high but serve food that are no better than mall food...
Read moreWe decided we would try this place as we are not from the area and were passing through on our way home and we don't have one where we are from.
We got there around 4:45 pm on a monday and it was not very busy. We were pleasantly greeted and seated.
We ordered our drinks and about 10 mins later ordered our food.
The caesar salad was drenched in dressing. My husband typically loves a saucy salad but even he said it had way too much dressing (we kept these complaints to ourselves). He enjoyed his pizza though and we found that the salad and small pizza option was great.
I ordered the chicken nugget meal as a backup plan for my toddlers and fries (well done). They did not come well done whatsoever but again i kept this complaint to myself.
We ordered the kids pizza off the kids menu and asked for pineapple and bacon. When the food arrived I asked about the bacon as it looked like ham and the waitress (Kate) said that is automatically what you get if you dont specify as thats what they do. We kindly advised we wouldn't know this as this was our first time there and they should have asked us instead of just assuming we knew. She offered to make us a new one and we politely declined as the toddlers were hungry and grumpy and we didn't want to cause a scene.
Then the manager came and said the same thing. Again, we politely declined and told them we wouldn't know this as we were not locals.
Its at this point the waitress stopped coming around leaving us sitting there waiting for refills on our drinks and our bill.
Then we get the bill. We noticed that we were charged full price for everything in addition to the orange juices that we had ordered (most places you get a drink with the kids meal). Again, we were not notified that they only serve "pop" to kids and the orange juice would be an extra charge.
We sat for almost 30 minutes waiting for the bill and to pay and it took about 45 minutes for the food to come which seemed excessively long given they weren't busy.
Would not recommend! Only reason they got 2 stars instead of 1 is because their...
