Nico's Pizzeria — Restaurant in Revelstoke

Wife and I stopped here while on our way to Calgary. We liked the town so much we decided to stay a night. For dinner we decided to eat at Nico’s. Immediately what we picked up was the staff not so welcoming.. We sat on the patio to be served, a short time later our waitress approached and took our order. I will say the food was not so bad,.. average.., however the service could take a bit of training. Once our food was served our server ended her shift instructing the other server to assist if we required anything else. Short of the story is the other server refused to even acknowledge us. As I wanted to order another drink I tried several times to make eye contact with the server but she kept ignoring our table and accompanying the other “only 2 guest tables.” I know these small towns depend, strive on tourists and employment from certain short term students abroad from various countries. I have noticed on a wider scale that the “higher” hospitality fields in the Canadian tourism industry is catered by the Australians in such towns. However I feel they lack knowledge understanding the influential wealth, power and education of certain South Asian cultures here compared to their homeland. I would hate to say this but there seems a bit of racism from these tourist servers. They need to learn we are not all a bad, cheap culture. Came here for an early dinner around 5PM, surprisingly the patio was pretty full when we arrived. I wanted to sit outside but was told there was a lot of bugs, so we ended up inside. I had looked at the menu online earlier and saw some combos, and I asked about them but was told it's for takeout only. That really didn't make much sense to me, and I almost wanted to say we'd have takeout then (but takeout generates a lot more trash via boxes and all so I didn't want to do that). We decided to get a lasagna because I really wanted to eat the fresh pasta, and we also got a small (10") Last Spike which had Italian sausage, pepperoni, caramelized onion, green pepper, mushroom, and arugula. We received our small Caesar salad first which had bacon bits and crutons, and the lasagna and pizza came out soon after, both piping hot. The pizza was pretty mediocre, not much flavor but not a lot of oil which I appreciated. The lasagna was oozing with cheese and delicious; I really liked the lasagna. I could taste the ingredients were light, and the lasagna wasn't mushy or stuck together as lasagnas often are. Even though it was a lot of food and we ate it all, we didn't feel heavy or loaded, I think thanks to both items not being very oily. I'd say the lasagna is a solid 4 stars, the pizza 3 stars, service was a bit lacking as I had to ask for a water refill and for our check to be served. Stopped in for a quick bite, was anything but quick.

Service was horrible. We waited at the front for 20 minutes without anyone even acknowledging us or the people behind us. Finally once acknowledged, we were seated meanwhile the two waitresses were running around trying to figure out what table to serve and which table to clean and who to seat next. It was a huge display of disorganization and lack of planning and just pure chaos. They are busy for sure, but I feel it was busy due to delays and the chaos.

Pizza itself was ok. Crust was good but that was all that was good. Sauce was extremely sour like it was a can of ragu fresh from the can. Toppings were light with barely any cheese. Tons of arugula though....but I didn't order an arugula only pizza. Meat was skimpy bit good when it was there.

Anyway, one medium pizza for two adults took 1.5+ hours to sit, order, and eat. Yeah....anything but fast. Service is terrible and food is lack luster but crust was good, which was the only thing positive.

They need more staff or some organization or something because whatever they are doing, it does not work in my opinion. Will not...
