I am a local resident taking a group of local hikers for lunch today at this restaurant at the end of our hike at Garry Point Park area. The experience we got is just unbelieveably baddd...even right at the moment we entered the restaurant. A very unwelcoming facial expression and gesture when seating us, we don't know why! Food orders were taken individually but 4 mistakes were made including items forgotten! No water was served nor asked if we want anything to drink. Water was given toward the end when we almost finished eating. There was literally NO service given other then delivering foods to the table. Throughout the entire length of our stay, no questions was asked if we needed anything else instead, we needed to wave her down to get her attention. I ordered a piece of Cod and a bowl of claw chowder soup. The soup was horrible, never had I tasted such kind of clam chowder soup anywhere in town! The waitress forgot the Cod order when l inquired about it. I said I don't want it now, then she brought me a piece of Cod on the plate (with no seafood sauce or anything else on the plate). She just placed it on the table without uttering a word! When I waved her down and said I didn't want it, she then said it was on her, free! I have experience working at a few local restaurants in the past, I know very well this kind of service is totally unacceptable by any standards! Though she waved the charges to green salads and that piece of Cod, for that we appreciated, but this very unhappy experience four of us had will linger on for a very long time. We concluded this was our First and the Last time we visited this restaurant! 8 Though we said earlier we won't pay her any tips but, we still paid her 12% at the time when...
Read moreI don't write reviews, usually, but I had to this time. What I learned its apparent that a significant number of sophists are disseminating deceptively positive reviews. Always err on the side of skepticism.
I've been a loyal customer at Dave's for nearly 45 years. First off, parking here is usually a problem. It is Richmond, so you're best to find a spot far away and walk.
Unfortunately, Dave's has succumbed to the trend of "shrinkflation" and a touch of "greedflation" as well.
I placed an order for two meals to go: one large two-piece fish and a small order of fries (which used to be a large portion), and the other order consisted of one piece of fish and a small fry, both of the cod variety. They were not busy at all as I avoid the "rush" hours.
To my disappointment, the two pieces of cod were disappointingly small. The single piece was roughly 80% the size of the combined two pieces, though naturally less costly.
While the fish was expertly battered and fried, lacking any excessive grease, the fries (chips) were small loose-ends, overcooked, crispy, and parched.
I've always sung Dave's praises and defended it against the competition down by the dock. However, upon passing by the competition later, I couldn't help but notice that their fish portions were significantly more generous and their fries were far superior.
Being raised on Dave's, I consider myself well-versed in fish and chips. This recent experience was a...
Read moreWent to the restaurant yesterday. Food was ok at best. I ordered the Cod and Halibut fish and chips combo, which took a reasonable amount of time to make, considering the number of tables to be served.
This is not what I'm writing this review for. I am writing this due to the fact that it took more than 15 minutes for the server to bring us water. Not only our table, but I could see at least 2 other tables on our section of the restaurant not having any beverages either. There was only one male server running from left to right throughout the restaurant and when my friend saw a female worker at the restaurant (whom he assumed works as a server), asked her to bring us water, she acknowledged, but didn't follow up.
What's even more ridiculous was the male server's style of serving tables. He only served one table AT A TIME for food and drinks altogether. Who does that?! You couldn't simply bring water for each table before you move on to other things? I'm guessing that guy hasn't had enough experience working in restaurants and he looks pretty young, so I guess I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
Not sure how busy it was at the back, but if you only had one server running tables with 50% tables filled at the time, you need more than one person serving drinks and taking orders.
My friend and I won't come back here...
