The Burger Don — Restaurant in Sault Ste. Marie

So myself & My family are traveling, we roll into town at 10:50pm on Sunday evening. Everyone is hungry everywhere is closed or closing soon, then Bam we were recommended this Place & Our lives Changed forever!

We sit down, our waiter, Charlie only 3 shifts in amazing character was polite, Promt & overall Amazing. The bartender/Chef/waiter sorry I couldn't see what you did or caught your name. (big booth corner). He lets us know they are closing soon,but stayed an extra 10 minutes for us, but lets us know we can order something still and that's when our lives changed!

Doughnut burger was a real burger Patty with real cheese, the bacon, thick cooked perfectly, the doughnut glazed on top tasted like a real one it was the best burger I've had I'm not big on burgers but will definitely come back to this over and over again!

The kids, chicken strip meal were real chicken, fries were great the chicken strip corners were a little hard, but that could also be because we had someone with a loose tooth.

Dons burger coming from a teenager perfect, the texture, the taste, the portion perfect, tasted amazing! Hawaiian Tropical right mix a little less ice perfect.

Chicken tacos, great not hard perfect flavors and combination of items.

The Guy who we didn't get his name Taught my sons a different lesson those he taught them Compassion, Kindness, Respect, Responsibility, something I & my boys are passionate about. A couple down on their luck came in, my youngest still learning about life says they looked like they could use a hot meal & some love and that's what that man gave them. I don't know if they paid as they left after us, but the respect & upbeat attitude he gave mad respect to you!

To the owner your food, hospitality and staff were a blessing and amazing! I wish more people had all 3 and still cared about Humanity the way you guys do. I would have loved to pay for the couple's meal, so if you start a program to help others out, let us know we will come back and honor that!

This is an updated review. I was a regular at Burger Don eating there on and off 2- 3 times a week during 2023/24. When I called and said my name they would know my order and know who I was when I came in. I am not sure if there is a new owner or not. There was always issues with the food and service here but it seems to have just gotten worse. My wife got the shredded chicken tacos. The chicken looked like mushy cat food and was bland. I had a build my own burger and as usual it was missing bacon. They either seem to mess up my wife’s order or mine it’s never correct. The servers don’t seem to care either. I have received burgers with no toppings on them and even been given the wrong order a few times.

After having to call 2 times to get answered I ordered the take out i was told 20 minutes. I called back within a couple minutes to delay my order as I got tied up. I was on hold for 15 minutes and then hung up on. Probably because either the server forgot I was on hold or my food was done at that point. I didn’t bother calling back because they either won’t answer or just put me on hold again. Got there 20 minutes past when they said my food would be ready and of course the food is not just cold but wrong. I was not greeted when I came in the server just stood there at the till staring at the screen. I understand she might have been in the middle of waiting for the screen to load but didn’t even acknowledge me with a “I’ll be with you in a moment”. Another server ended up coming over after 5 minutes passed, gave me the food and that was it. They were about half full so not overly busy. I didn’t bother making a fuss of things because at this point after seeing the decline I know it’s not going to change. This will be the last time I come here. Maybe I’ll try again in a year or two.

Food was exceptional, finished our plates but really could eat no more. Got the hangover burger and Ceasar drink combo, good value compared to buying separate. Our waitress left a lot to be desired. When bringing our drinks she spilled my whole pop on the table and me. Her first concern was my cell phone, then proceeded to tell us she was having a bad day. Next she "joked" that I was lucky that it was not my wife's alcoholic drink because that would be sticky... um hello, pop is very sticky. She proceeded to bring napkins to wipe up the mess. Not once did she ask if I was ok. I went and cleaned up in the bathroom while she mopped the floor around our table. We then had to ask for a wet cloth to wipe our table, it WAS sticky. During all this our waitress loudly told her co-workers that she was having a bad day, the whole restaurant heard, not professional at all. Our meal was uneventful and as mentioned very tasty, we enjoyed it. Unfortunately because of the spilled drink our order got delayed while she asked one of her co-workers to get 2 other tables orders that came in after us, once again not professional! When we were about 2/3 done our dinner she finally came by the table to make sure our meal was satisfactory, (it was), but kinda late to be asking, also we had to wait this long to be able to order another drink for my wife and son, not professional! When the bill came, surprise, surprise, no offer of compensation maybe 1/2 price for my meal, or a free desert, not even an second apology, "hey I'm really sorry about dumping the drink earlier". I still left a15% tip as she was standing exactly 2 feet away watching intently as I payed the bill with the debit machine, (not professional). Even after everything there is no way I could not leave a tip, but it really was not deserved. Next time we are in town we will go back, but hope for a...
