We ended up at Big Daddy’s Fish Fry in Tofino after asking ChatGPT for the best fish and chips in town. Hunger decided for us, so we didn’t hesitate. The ordering system feels rushed – you pay at the window before even seeing the food and are encouraged to tip right away, starting at 10%. Service at the counter was fine, but nothing special. After getting a buzzer, another staff member led us to a table. At first we were seated in what felt like a school cafeteria side alley, but after asking, we were moved to bar stools with a street view, which was much better. The place doesn’t serve alcohol, so it’s water only, with colourful plastic cups. When your buzzer goes off, you pick up your food yourself – which makes you wonder what the tip was for, though hopefully it goes to the kitchen team working hard in the heat. Now the highlight: the food. We ordered the halibut fish and chips twice (the first portion is $30, the second fish is an extra $15). It came with coleslaw and was phenomenal. Perfectly golden, great flavour, crispy fries – honestly some of the best fish and chips I’ve had. Washrooms were clean and the overall atmosphere had a simple island feel, not particularly original but pleasant enough. Summary: Service and setup could be better, but the food alone makes Big Daddy’s worth a visit. If you’re after top-notch fish and chips, this is the place.

Man is this place good! I got the fried oysters and they were delicious👌🏾I do wish the sauce pairing was a little bit better because I didn’t think the remoulade added much to the dish but overall, it was wonderful. Seating is also nice and captures a bit of that beach town vibe. The salad/slaw that comes with the dish is also great. I found one order of the beach oysters to be plenty filling. My buddy got the prawns and they were juicy and snappy. Also very filling. It’s not visible on the menu but you can get just pieces of fish if you’re not in the mood for chips, I do wish this information was a bit more clear because I would’ve loved to try their fish, I’m certain it would’ve been amazing.

When I came to Big Daddy’s Fish Fry I was fairly unsuspecting of just how blown away I was about to be with the food. They had a fish cake special, incredibly generous size, and loaded with a delicious Fennel slaw and a wonderful aioli. The fish and chips we received had a perfect crispy coating while the flaky moist fish inside was perfectly done. Awesome fries, a great slaw, and the best setup I’ve seen to get vinegar coated on fries perfectly will have me coming back again to experience more!! If you’re in Tofino and you need some great food priced well and quickly definitely stop at Big Daddy’s Fish Fry!!

This was our first time to dine in in Tofino and this restaurant is unpleasant, disrespectful, rude and not family orientated people. The lady at the counter was a littlebit nice (because Ive heard she was the owner) Food was good not great by the way nothing spwe need ecial. I went there with a group of people and we had miscommunication. I had told the “owner” that it was for to go but the rest of the group was staying. I understand that the table was for to go. I was standing at the back when the staff named Randy approached on a rude and unprofessional way of telling us we need to go outside to wait for the order to let the other people enjoy the food on their table. An abrupt RANDY was shouting on our faces that we need to go out! I was in awe of having this customer service it was terrible in doing this business. I do apologize if we are here. But we came with a group of people and these people are dining in. WE ARE A GROUP! and mind you we are not taking any other tables. Thank goodness the “owner” said I belong to the group and he stopped. This is humiliating RANDY. Our group was already telling RANDY that I am a part of the group but he never stops from removing us in the restaurant it feels like we are beggars and we didnt pay the order! This is ridiculous. When one of our group members asked for an extra chair. Randy approached me asked me to get off the chair so I gave it to my surprise he gave it to one of my group. I was so embarrassed and this is disrespectful and VERY RUDE RANDY. You need to chill out my friend. I know on your age its tough to catch up on this venture. But I must tell you. You need to take a breath and retire. No one deserves on how you treat customers brutally with your mouth and attitude. I was disappointed and felt bad having my food while in the restaurant. You are all lucky their that I was with the group but then I should have asked to give back my money. I did not deserve this treatment and hopefully your business will go and sail smoothly. I dont expect with the management for anything because it shows on them already. Families, the rating is 4.4. Not sure which part is 4.4 in here. Unfriendly and...

Came hoping to try the shrimp cakes but looks like they’ve updated the menu since the most recent one was posted online, and they don’t have those anymore. I got the lingcod burger instead. While the price tag looks expensive, it the burger came with three nuggets of fish, which was more than fit on the bun - I took one off and ate the burger with just 2 pieces, and fish was still spilling out. Besides the fish, there was also a heaping of slaw and arugula on the burger. It was delicious - the fish was tender and flaky and the slaw was really good. The bun didn’t fall apart even with a ton of stuff on it. The fries were standard shoestring fries and they were kind of greasy. I got a side of habanero hot sauce to dip them in and that was pretty good. It had a decent kick but not extreme heat. Dips are kind of pricy at $1.5-2 for a small cup, but ketchup is free at the tables. How it works is you order and pay at the entrance, take a buzzer and seat yourself, and get your food at the counter when the buzzer goes off. The older lady taking orders was...
