Repeat customers and locals beware!
Just got done eating - ordered a pork gyro and a greek salad as always.... to my surprise the meat provided was literally 40 percent less, the pita was noticeably smaller, and there were no peppers anymore. The greek salad was also about 25 percent smaller.
It was pretty shocking how much of a change it was. Im hoping to god it was just a bad day/mistake but BOTH of my gyros were like this and the fact that the pita itself was smaller is just a dead giveaway that management has either changed or is going about the WRONG way to match increasing costs.
To locals and newcomers: The new gyros are still above average, but having less meat itself changes the taste beyond the fact that there is less meat. The perfect meat/bun/sauce ratio is no longer and you leave feeling... unsatisfied. Not to mention its barely worth it for the money anymore. Do NOT go here if the portions remain this shockingly small.
To management: I really hope this was just an offday or a business model you "tried out" because its a damn mistake. Not only does it affect the taste and texture of your gyro, it ONLY works in maximizing profit in the classic loaded harbourfront summer for tourists and first timers - you won't survive the winter with this cause all your locals are going to abandon you. bumping the price up a dollar is 200 percent better than lowering the quality of your food. locals will adjust and your food quality will remain. downscaling everything is not only going to plummet your reviews - affecting your ability to retain first timers - but it will also guarantee that all your locals will leave you and all that sweet profit you made in the summer will evaporate in the winter. Just know that the ONLY reason i'm bothering to review is because this place used to be incredible and i just loved it. It's tragic the business decision you have made and i really want to see it go back to...
Read moreThis used to be my go-to place for great food, especially after the bars closed!
All my friends and I loved the place because of the great friendly service and of course their amazing greek gyros on a pita.
So yesterday I took my out-of-town friends to Alexandros after the Jays game and it was just horrible.
Firstly, the usual friendly faces behind the counter were gone (is there new ownership??) and when I ordered my chicken gyros on a pita, the meat spinning on the skewer perfectly roasted, golden brown and sizzling. I also asked to make sure the chicken carved for me was grilled well done before placing in my gyro. My other three friends similarly requested the same order for theirselves.
When we all went outside with our food and unwrapped our gyros, I immediately noticed the chicken was mostly room temperature chunks of dark meat. There were no signs of any golden brown skin or roasted chicken whatsoever. It was as if some other source of chicken was used for our gyros, and not the golden chicken on the skewers.
Moreover, there were no tomatoes either and just a few slivers of onions. It was just a very sad pita filled with cold dark chicken chunks.
The same observations were made by my three friends on their respective chicken gyro orders.
We all felt bait and switched (the counter blocks any view of where our chicken actually came from, and we did not see any carving take place at all), and I felt personally embarrassed for having hyped up this place beforehand.
Very curious if there is new ownership and if this is the reason for the massive decline in quality and service.
Sadly, I will never set foot in this...
Read moreI love Greek food. I was walking around the harbour front and found this place, saw many people eating there so I decided to try as well.
First let me cover positives:
Service was good. The guy behind the counter was nice and talked with a smile.
Greek Poutine was really nice. The Feta cheese was awesome and fries were cooked perfectly. Really nice.
Greek Burger was overcooked, but I don't mind. I still enjoyed it.
Now negatives:
I understand price is expensive because its downtown so I won't really hold it against them.
I had 2 Chicken Gyro. The Gyro meat is not what I am used to eating when I order Gyro. It was exactly like a Shawarma. I don't think this was a real traditional Gyro. Maybe I am wrong and maybe somewhere in Greece they do eat like this, I don't know.
But here is my real problem with the Gyro, take a look at the pictures attach. This is all the fat I took out from my Gyro. I ate 1 gyro at the location and I brought 1 home. I am disgusted by the amount of fat, literally pieces of fat there were in the gyro.
I don't care if the Gyro is $5 or $50, there is no excuse for serving this much fat to customer. This is just pure laziness by the chef.
I guess I wont be going there again thats for sure.
What a shame, I really wanted to like this place, but...
