If you're craving an unforgettable South Indian dining experience in Canada, look no further than Annalakshmi! From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with warm smiles and a sense of hospitality that made me feel right at home.
The ambiance of the restaurant is charming, with subtle hints of South Indian culture woven into the decor. It's cozy yet spacious enough to accommodate groups of all sizes. The comfortable seating and soft lighting create a perfect setting for a delightful meal.
Now, let's talk about the food β it's simply outstanding! The menu boasts a wide variety of traditional South Indian dishes. I started with their signature dosas, and they were divine! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, served with an array of mouthwatering chutneys and sambhar. The flavors were authentic and reminiscent of the dosas I had during my travels in South India.
Next, I tried the thali, and I was blown away by the assortment of flavors and textures. Each item on the platter was carefully prepared, and the curries had just the right amount of spices, not too overwhelming but still incredibly flavorful.
For dessert, I couldn't resist ordering their classic payasam. It was the perfect sweet note to end my meal, and it transported me back to the traditional feasts I enjoyed during festivals in India.
Aside from the fantastic food, the service was impeccable. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and offered helpful suggestions for those unfamiliar with South Indian cuisine. They were attentive without being intrusive, ensuring that my dining experience was flawless.
Whether you're a die-hard fan of South Indian cuisine or someone looking to explore new flavors, Annalakshmi is an absolute must-visit! The restaurant ambience was fine but can be improved.
We ordered Sambar Vada, Masala Dosa, Tomato Onion Uttapam, Paper Masala Dosa & Rava Kesari (Dessert).
The Sambar Vada came first. The Sambar was piping hot but the Vada was very soggy as if it was dipped in the hot Sambar for a longer time. It did not taste like a Vada but more like a dissolved Idly. The crispness of the Vada was missing. Moreover, the Sambar was full of drumsticks that was a bit annoying as they had to be removed one after the other.
The Masala Dosa was crispy and tasted delicious. Sambar was very hot which was good and it also had an authentic taste. Loved the Sambar. The potato masala stuffing was okay but a bit spicy. The coconut chutney tasted good as well. The tomato chutney was okay but could have been better. The green Mint Cilantro chutney wasnβt good and had a watery texture. The quantity of all the chutneys was a bit less.
The Tomato Onion Uttapam was hot, crispy and delicious. The Paper Masala Dosa was pretty good as it was very crispy. However, I noticed that the potato masala stuffing was less for the dosa. Everything else was the same.
Finally, the Rava Kesari arrived after a while. It tasted okay but Iβve had it much better at some of the other South Indian restaurants in GTA.
Service was okay and prices of the dishes are reasonable. Overall, the experience was nice and we would definitely come back to try their other dishes...

I recently dined at this restaurant, and my experience was nothing short of disappointing. I had high hopes for a satisfying meal, but alas, my visit left me thoroughly dissatisfied.
First and foremost, the service was utterly ridiculous. I found myself waiting for a whopping 40 minutes just to receive a Thali, a delay that seemed completely unjustified. The lack of communication from the staff regarding the delay only added to my frustration. I mean, how long does it take to prepare a Thali?
When the food finally arrived, I was met with yet another disappointment. The taste was far from what I had expected; in fact, it was bad. For the price I paid, which was a hefty $20, I had anticipated a meal that would at least be worth its cost. Sadly, the reality fell far short of that mark. The flavors were bland, and the presentation lacked any semblance of care or attention to detail.
Adding to my displeasure was the behavior of the staff. They appeared rude and disorganized, contributing to the overall unpleasant atmosphere. It felt like the restaurant lacked proper management, resulting in a chaotic and unenjoyable dining experience.
In conclusion, I regret having chosen this restaurant for my meal. The service was excruciatingly slow, the food was subpar and overpriced, and the staff's demeanor was far from welcoming. I would advise anyone seeking a satisfying dining experience to steer clear of this establishment. My rating of 2/10 reflects the unfortunate reality...
