Visited Annalakshmi in Toronto for the first time with my family to try their South Indian food. We arrived around 3 pm and the restaurant was fully packed. We were asked to wait for 20 mins and we got a table within that time. The restaurant ambience was fine but can be improved. We ordered Sambar Vada, Masala Dosa, Tomato Onion Uttapam, Paper Masala Dosa & Rava Kesari (Dessert). The Sambar Vada came first. The Sambar was piping hot but the Vada was very soggy as if it was dipped in the hot Sambar for a longer time. It did not taste like a Vada but more like a dissolved Idly. The crispness of the Vada was missing. Moreover, the Sambar was full of drumsticks that was a bit annoying as they had to be removed one after the other. The Masala Dosa was crispy and tasted delicious. Sambar was very hot which was good and it also had an authentic taste. Loved the Sambar. The potato masala stuffing was okay but a bit spicy. The coconut chutney tasted good as well. The tomato chutney was okay but could have been better. The green Mint Cilantro chutney wasn’t good and had a watery texture. The quantity of all the chutneys was a bit less. The Tomato Onion Uttapam was hot, crispy and delicious. The Paper Masala Dosa was pretty good as it was very crispy. However, I noticed that the potato masala stuffing was less for the dosa. Everything else was the same. Finally, the Rava Kesari arrived after a while. It tasted okay but I’ve had it much better at some of the other South Indian restaurants in GTA. Service was okay and prices of the dishes are reasonable. Overall, the experience was nice and we would definitely come back to try their other dishes the next time.

πŸ› Ambience & First Impressions From the moment you step inside, the warm aroma of sambar and spices welcomes you like a homely hug. The decor strikes a balance between modern minimalism and traditional South Indian elements β€” brass lamps, and Carnatic music playing softly in the background. The restaurant was clean and well-lit, with enough spacing between tables to feel relaxed even during peak hours. πŸ§‘β€πŸ³ Service & Hospitality Service was prompt and courteous. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and made good suggestions based on spice preferences. Our server ensured our water was always refilled and even offered extra chutneys without us asking. Wait times were reasonable β€” around 15 minutes for mains on a busy Saturday evening. βΈ» 🍽️ Food Review πŸ₯₯ Appetizers β€’ Ghee Podi Idli (4.5/5): Tossed in gunpowder and ghee, these mini idlis were spicy, buttery, and addictive. πŸ₯˜ Main Course β€’ Ghee Roast Masala Dosa (4/5): A must-try! Crispy and golden, with perfectly spiced potato filling. The trio of chutneys (coconut, tomato, and mint) and hot sambar complemented it beautifully. πŸ§‚ Accompaniments & Drinks β€’ Filter Coffee (5/5): Authentic South Indian filter coffee in a steel tumbler set β€” strong, frothy, and aromatic. β€’ Lassi (3.5/5): Good, but slightly too sweet for my taste. βΈ» πŸ’° Pricing Very reasonable for downtown Toronto. Most dosas range from $15–$20. Portion sizes are generous β€” great value for money Must visit once.

WORST EXPERIENCE IN CANADA I'VE HAD 🚨 So today me and 4 friends went to this place. So first of all, when we saw this place online on google, we didn't find it anywhere that it was a vegetarian restaurant. Anyway, we ordered 2 veg thaali, 2 masala dosa and I ordered a veg biryani. At this time, they didn't say anything about wait times. After 15 mins, they brought the thaalis and dosas and I told my friends to not wait for my dish and start eating. After another 15 mins, my friends had finished the food, had the Gulab Jaman as dessert yet my biryani hadn't arrive. The staff didn't even check in and were just scrambling. Now everyone was already done, I had few bites from here and there and no point to wait anymore to eat the biryani. We expressed our frustration to the servers and told to pack it now and they should had let us known beforehand if any item would take much longer. We even had their special madras coffee and still the biryani didn't arrive. What a disappointment. This is the 1st time I've ever experienced this. What a fail πŸ‘ŽπŸΌπŸ‘ŽπŸΌπŸ‘ŽπŸΌ Overall my friends liked the items alot and said great pricing but the 1 item coming along with the bill really spoilt the experience. It took the biryani 45 minutes after ordering and the other items 15 minutes.. I personally will never visit any of their branches and will share this experience with everyone.

If you're craving an unforgettable South Indian dining experience in Canada, look no further than Annalakshmi! From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with warm smiles and a sense of hospitality that made me feel right at home.

The ambiance of the restaurant is charming, with subtle hints of South Indian culture woven into the decor. It's cozy yet spacious enough to accommodate groups of all sizes. The comfortable seating and soft lighting create a perfect setting for a delightful meal.

Now, let's talk about the food – it's simply outstanding! The menu boasts a wide variety of traditional South Indian dishes. I started with their signature dosas, and they were divine! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, served with an array of mouthwatering chutneys and sambhar. The flavors were authentic and reminiscent of the dosas I had during my travels in South India.

Next, I tried the thali, and I was blown away by the assortment of flavors and textures. Each item on the platter was carefully prepared, and the curries had just the right amount of spices, not too overwhelming but still incredibly flavorful.

For dessert, I couldn't resist ordering their classic payasam. It was the perfect sweet note to end my meal, and it transported me back to the traditional feasts I enjoyed during festivals in India.

Aside from the fantastic food, the service was impeccable. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and offered helpful suggestions for those unfamiliar with South Indian cuisine. They were attentive without being intrusive, ensuring that my dining experience was flawless.

Whether you're a die-hard fan of South Indian cuisine or someone looking to explore new flavors, Annalakshmi is an absolute must-visit! It's not just a restaurant; it's a journey through the delectable tastes of South India, right here in Canada. I'm already planning my next visit, and I can't wait to try more of their offerings. Highly...

Rating: 2/10

I recently dined at this restaurant, and my experience was nothing short of disappointing. I had high hopes for a satisfying meal, but alas, my visit left me thoroughly dissatisfied.

First and foremost, the service was utterly ridiculous. I found myself waiting for a whopping 40 minutes just to receive a Thali, a delay that seemed completely unjustified. The lack of communication from the staff regarding the delay only added to my frustration. I mean, how long does it take to prepare a Thali?

When the food finally arrived, I was met with yet another disappointment. The taste was far from what I had expected; in fact, it was bad. For the price I paid, which was a hefty $20, I had anticipated a meal that would at least be worth its cost. Sadly, the reality fell far short of that mark. The flavors were bland, and the presentation lacked any semblance of care or attention to detail.

Adding to my displeasure was the behavior of the staff. They appeared rude and disorganized, contributing to the overall unpleasant atmosphere. It felt like the restaurant lacked proper management, resulting in a chaotic and unenjoyable dining experience.

In conclusion, I regret having chosen this restaurant for my meal. The service was excruciatingly slow, the food was subpar and overpriced, and the staff's demeanor was far from welcoming. I would advise anyone seeking a satisfying dining experience to steer clear of this establishment. My rating of 2/10 reflects the unfortunate reality...
