I went back to AZURE at the Intercontinental Hotel yesterday to try their new menu, and while the food was solid, the service was what really stood out. Both the manager, Lowell Neill, and our server, Johnny, went above and beyond to make our experience memorable.
I ordered the Tourtierancini with a side of Caesar salad, and my colleagues got the Whiskey BBQ Bison Sando and the Azure Power Bowl. The Tourtierancini came out in a mini skillet with three crispy arancini and some raw watercress on top. The arancini had a nice crunch, and the filling, inspired by tourtiere, had a mild meaty flavor. I thought it could’ve been seasoned a bit more, but the blueberry jus on the side was a great touch—it added just the right amount of tartness and sweetness to balance the dish. That watercress, though, felt a bit random; arugula would’ve probably worked better.
The Caesar salad was where things got a little interesting. I’d ordered it as a side, but they brought out a full-sized portion instead. I didn’t think much of it at first, but when I asked Johnny about the size, he explained there’d been a mix-up with my order. He immediately let the manager know, and that’s when Lowell came over to personally apologize.
Lowell didn’t just fix the issue—he went the extra mile. He told me I could take the salad home (after checking with the kitchen) and then offered complimentary desserts for the table as an apology. He even said, “If you want to try the mousse too, why not?” I mean, how could I say no to that? My colleagues both went with the Chocolate Mousse to-go, and even though I’d already ordered the Sugar Tart, I added the Mango Passionfruit Mousse to the mix.
The desserts were a highlight! The Sugar Tart was buttery and just sweet enough, while the Mango Passionfruit Mousse was light, tropical, and refreshing. My colleagues said the Chocolate Mousse was rich and indulgent—definitely a win.
As for the mains, the Whiskey BBQ Bison Sando was bold and smoky, and the Azure Power Bowl was fresh and light, perfect for someone looking for a healthier option.
The ambiance was as nice as I remembered—calm and modern, with great lighting for photos. While the food is a bit pricey for what you get, the way Lowell and Johnny handled everything made all the difference. Their level of care and attention really stood out and turned what could’ve been a small hiccup into a great experience.

Read moreI never write reviews , but unfortunately I have to this time. (READ ALL OF IT FOR YOUR SAKE) I was a guest at the hotel and I stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. on December 31st I decided to dine in (terrible mistake), I invited 7 of my friends to the restaurant for a 6:30 reservation. The service was not the best, the waitress takes forever with any tasks, even after we finished dining we waited at least 15 minutes for the table to get cleaned up when the restaurant wasn’t even that busy. after asking the manager to clean the table he did immediately, and I asked for the bill just to wait another 15 minute for my waitress to bring it to me. when i checked the bill I noticed that the waitress has added her own tip ? prior to even me checking it. I think that was crazy because I didn’t even receive a good service for you to input your own tip. 5 of us ordered the ravioli pasta and after 20 minutes of my first bite into the pasta i went to vomit. i didn’t think much of it , however as the night progress my health extremely deteriorate and I got food poisoning. I was throwing up all night even though there was nothing in my system at that point because i threw up in the restaurant. additionally i had bad diarrhea and heat shocks. I was extremely dehydrated, my body couldn’t even handle drinking water everything that enters my system I puke. I had to cancel my new year’s party and plans. I spent about 310$ just to get food poisoning. I checked out on wednesday but due to my food poisoning I had to extend my trip at a different hotel because I couldn’t drive back, I spent all night in the bathroom between vomiting and diarrhea . Additionally , I asked my friends who also ordered the pasta and they are starting to see symptoms , diarrhea and abdominal pain. I brung this to the restaurant attention and they told me they will conduct an investigation and get back to me. I’m not a resident of toronto , and I’ve spent all day calling with no answer. That’s why I had to come here. I don’t want to escalate the situation and involve Ottawa Public health and complain to food safety, however if I don’t receive my refund and hear back from the restaurant then I will have to do so. Also just save ur money and go somewhere else ,...
Read moreI was really disappointed with this restaurant experience this morning! Five of us stayed in the hotel so decided to dine at the restaurant for breakfast before heading home. First of all, when we arrived at the restaurant which had very few patrons at the time, there was no one at the host station for a number of minutes. When the young woman did arrive, we got no apology whatsoever, just shepherded to a table nearby. I ordered Eggs Benedict and after waiting a full 20 or so minutes, it arrived full of shell. It was horrible! Our waitress, Penny, did apologize took it away to have another one prepared. It also took a long time to arrive and when it finally did, everyone else had finished eating so I ate my meal while they all waited for me. At the very least, I expected they wouldn’t charge me for the $27 Eggs Benedict, but they did…. We were all really surprised and pretty ticked off. But as I was with friends who were covering the meal, I felt I couldn’t make a fuss, but I left feeling frustrated and annoyed! We’ll be finding another restaurant for breakfast on our next visit. Unimpressed, to say the least! **EDIT - After posting this review, the manager got in touch with me and I was happy with her proposed resolution to this issue. I feel much better now and will give the restaurant another chance. I have raised my star...
