I went to BEAR Steak at the Well recently. I’ve seen these all over IG and I wanted to finally give it a try when I found out they had a location near me.

The good: The steak is well cooked, and the Well food court is beautiful. Sandwich was tender and had great flavor.

The not so good: first, this sandwich is expensive. $18 before tax and tip, no sides. I can’t tell if it’s a small portion of meat, or if the bun is too big. But you can see the meat doesn’t fill out the bun very well. After I finished, I was still hungry. The chimichurri sauce is very tasty but I found it aggressively salty. While the sauce looks a bit sparse, it was actually more than enough due to the salt. I would much prefer less salt and more sauce.

Neutral: I love Portuguese buns but I don’t think they are the best choice for a thick cut steak sandwich. A crusty bun would be much better to contrast the tender steak. Since they already have the bread, maybe they should go ahead and add bifana sandwiches to the menu?

Service: service was fine, what you would expect from a food court. I have no complaints.

Final Verdict: It’s a pretty good sandwich, certainly above average, but I don’t think it lived up...

Absolutely Unreal – A Must-Try at Wellington Market!

I don’t usually write reviews, but the bear steak sandwiches at the Wellington Market in Toronto deserve a standing ovation. From the moment I took my first bite, I knew I was experiencing something next-level. The meat is insanely tender, rich, and flavorful — it practically melts in your mouth. Whatever marinade or seasoning they use? Genius. Perfectly balanced, savory with just the right kick.

The sandwich is loaded, but not messy — every ingredient feels carefully chosen to complement the star of the show: that incredible bear steak. The bread is fresh, warm, and toasted to perfection, giving a satisfying crunch that doesn’t overpower. I also appreciated how the staff took pride in what they were serving — friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about their craft.

If you’re in Toronto and you’re not trying this, you’re seriously missing out. This is hands-down one of the most unique and delicious sandwiches I’ve ever had. I’d give it 6 stars if I could. Can’t wait to come back!

My husband picked up dinner for us tonight from Bear Steak, and we were blown away. We ordered the original steak sandwich, the cheeseburger, and fries cooked in beef tallow and everything was absolutely incredible.

We cook almost every meal at home and are very particular about ingredients and quality, so we don’t say this lightly: Bear Steak is worth it. The cheeseburger, ground in-house and cooked perfectly medium, was one of the best we’ve had. The original steak sandwich with chimichurri was flavorful, tender, and perfectly balanced. And the beef tallow fries? Perfectly seasoned and delish!!!

Neither of us are easily impressed bc we travel often, dine at fine restaurants, and hold food to a high standard, yet we both loved this meal. Service was fantastic as well. The woman who served my husband was so helpful and informative. We’ll...

I rarely leave reviews (too lazy) but I don’t want this place to ever go away. Been on a long search for a good steak sandwich since my favourite place closed during Covid, and this is now my go to steak sandwich spot! Bun was fresh, crispy outside, soft on the inside, chimmi sauce was very flavourful and complemented the steak perfectly (cooked exactly medium rare) and steak to sandwich ratio was perfect - every bite had steak with it. Pro-tip: order in advance! ***update: tried this again today and was disappointed. The steak only had 3-4 pieces medium, the rest were fully cooked and my steak portion was noticeably smaller than my friend’s and compared to the first time I had this sandwich. The sauce for the fries was delicious but overall disappointed with the inconsistent experience. Have to dock a star from my review to be fair…
