the food was excellent. the waiting staff was incredibly nice. it is a fancy enough spot. the menu items were in español and the descriptions were in english. bathroom was nice and clean.
now, i hate to give below a 5 star rating for a place that had such good food and such good service, however, only 6 out of the 8 items ordered were correct. someone literally said “i will also have the cheese quesadilla” and when the dishes were served, there was 1 chicken quesadilla and 1 cheese quesadilla. when it arrived, we expressed our dissatisfaction due to both of them trying to be vegetarian. one of the two bit the bullet and said no it’s fine, i’ll take the chicken quesadilla. it would have been nice for the waiting staff to accept the mistake and taken the food back. you could see we were a little bit distressed. on top of that, the same person who asked for the exact same dish, did not get the correct drink. she is not a fan of red wine, at all. and she made it clear she wanted a white sangria and she received a red sangria. we didn’t want to say anything. it was a busy night after a jays game, we didn’t want to slow down the staff, so we just took it, maybe our bad for that, but ideally, you don’t mess up the order in the first place so we’re not put in that position. but hey! my friend is very easy going, it did not at all ruin her experience, it was just difficult to finish the drink, and it just sucks a bit that the meal was incorrect, especially that they are vegetarian. the night was an 8/10 even 9/10! the food was good and spicy. really feel bad for giving 4 stars, but i will change to 5 stars if i ever go back and have a better...
Read moreWe tried really hard to enjoy our experience here at Milagro Cantina, but every new factor made that a lot harder to do. When first walking in, the dark and moody atmosphere looked promising. The cochinita pibil was extremely underwhelming. The slow braised pork was a fine texture, but lacked any sort of real taste. There was something missing, and that something was spice. The side of refried beans were the most disappointing of all. At first the dark colour wasn’t so much of a big deal— there are some dark beans out there. It was the first bite that just tasted burnt that was extremely off putting. These burnt beans were on both the main dishes we ordered and were equally as unappealing on both. The only thing salvaging this dish were the house-pickled habanero onions. They were delicious! Great spice and acidity that the plate was begging for, if only the other components of the dish stood a chance. Las enchiladas were disappointing in the spice department as well. Mild flavours and the taste of chicken was completely lost. Crema on top was a good touch, but couldn’t save the meal. Most disappointing was the queso fundido. Simply melted Gouda that was oily and inconsistent in texture. Not a single spice or pepper was added to the queso making it very difficult to continue eating. Not to mention that our appetizer came after the rest of our meal was already cleared since it was forgotten by the staff. Overall, the quality of food was not worth the...
Read moreA bit too much echo made it hard to hear friends around our table or the server. Service was extremely friendly and impressively quick. Reservation was extremely easy to make online, and equally easy to make changes to, to later add another guest to our table reservation. We had the Tacos Al Pastor, which was really just "fat cubes in sauce" with a small piece of pineapple as garnish, but the sauce was sure tasty and beautifullyspiced! Would not order it again, because it was just a lot of diced fat, making it quite difficult to swallow. We also had the Burrito Norteno with chorizo and it was fantastic. Meaty and perfectly seasoned with a warm spice level and enough food to satisfy a very hearty hunger. And two of us had the day's special, Tacos de Suadero, which were absolutely delicious and we could have eaten more. For drinks we tried the special: a watermelon margarita, which was very shy on any flavour and as such did not match the rim's chili-salt, a mango margarita (which did match the rim's chili salt, but unfortunately the rim overpowered the drink), and a traditional margarita with traditional salt rim. The lime was nicely balanced, but the mango also tasted watered-down. And we tried the Horchata, which was blissfully flavourful and refreshing enough to order "seconds".
We will absolutely go back. And absolutely recommend this...
