Finally went in to try the good looking food at this brunch spot with the family. No doubt the food looks beautiful as it comes out, and the menu is also fun with a lot of comfort food options - such as mac n cheese, fried chicken, and even duck confit.
I really wanted to love it and have another brunch spot to add to our repertoire, but I think the kicker for me was ordering the Beet and fruit smoothie and expecting to taste beets and fruit. Instead it was just overpowered by the simple syrup that was used to sweeten it. When I order fruits and veggies in a smoothie, I never expect it to be sweetened by anything other than its own fresh ingredients (maybe offer additional artificial sweetening for those who want it). Smoothie = health boost in the mornings for me and my 4 yr old and even he commented on the sweetness (we have green smoothies at home on the regular). So if ordering smoothies here, make it a point to ask for no additional sweetening.
From there, while our plates of food were bountiful I found my duck confit dish a tad bit on the salty side (think the fried herbed Mac n cheese was the culprit). Also I found the fries on both plates a bit too much. When having something as rich as the duck, a side salad would have been more balanced or much fewer fries. The farmers market breakfast was by far our favourite dish - which to me says that keeping it simpler is the way to go here.
My son loved his chicken and waffles and even the parents thought that was a decent enough plate…again, with too many home fries. The salad and dressing on there was top notch though!
I’d like to give this place another try, simply because the staff are great, the menu is fun, and the place is comfortable and available (unlike the lineup outside lady marmalade). Perhaps we should give the eggs Benny a...

If you are looking for a new Brunch spot, you should definitely check this place out, cause you will be leaving saying “O’SO FULL”!!! Their NEWEST O’So Full Platter came in the perfect portion to share between 4 people, it had Breakfast Poutine, Crab Cake, Smoked Salmon, Duck Confit & Classic Egg Benedicts, Fried Chicken Lettuce Wraps, Fried Boneless Chicken Thigh & Waffle, and Duck Leg Confit & Waffle! Everything was so well prepared, Breakfast Poutine came in flavourful, crispy Fries, the sauces and Cheese Curds made it so delicious! All the Egg Benedicts were perfectly executed, and our favourites were a tie between the Crab Cake Benny and Smoked Salmon Benny! Fried Chicken Lettuce Wraps were refreshing, it had the most awesome crunch from both the Lettuce, Fried Chicken, and Cabbage Slaw! I am sure you have tried Fried Chicken & Waffles, but did you know Duck Confit & Waffles existed? Their Fried Chicken was crispy, Duck Confit was well-seasoned, served on top of a beautifully made Waffle, it was O’SO BOMB! Make sure to enjoy this Platter with their Cocktails, we got Sunrise Mimosa and Papina Colada, both were equally amazing!
We got the Chicken & Waffles and Crab Cake Benny. The Chicken & Waffles came with these delicious fried chicken chunks on Belgian Waffles, home fries and fruits. The chicken was so crispy, juicy, the waffles were perfect to go with the blueberry chutney and syrup. The Crab Cake Benny was extraordinary, as it came with a crab cake base instead of english muffin, topped with perfectly poached egg and snow crab claws. We also got their Smoothies while the boxes were being prepared. The Watermelon Magarita and Beet the Berries were totally awesome, they were super refreshing, and tasted absolutely incredible, especially the...
Read moreI came to O’Somae on Saturday for brunch. Having heard about their Chicken waffle I decided to give it a try and ordered it along with a latte.
When the order came I was immediately impressed with the presentation and arrangement of the plate. There was a good mix of savoury sweet and fresh, giving me plenty of options to satisfy and cleanse my palate. There are 2 large servings of lightly battered chicken, very tender on the inside and the batter was just the right crispiness. As a slow eater I could appreciate that the chicken remained succulent as I slowly worked my way through it. The waffle was made with a unique batter that settles a perfect crisp on the outside and soft light sweetness on the inside. Adding some maple syrup on top makes them literally melt in your mouth. It’s also served with a side of wedges, fresh fruits and salad. The wedges are salted to perfection while the salad topped with pineapple sauce offers the perfect palate cleanser. The fresh fruit on the side completes the meal as healthy light dessert.
The service was friendly waitress was very patient in answering my questions about the different types of caffeinated drinks, and respondent when I needed help.
The restaurant had a nice ambience to it as well, the interior design made the restaurant feel spacious despite not being that large of a space, I felt that the distance between the tables were just right to feel like you had a private space to yourself.
Overall, I had a very pleasant brunch experience and would definitely recommend O’Somae to friends and family. Next time I come I will be trying...
