Simple Burger (Bloor st.) — Restaurant in Toronto

It's been awhile since I have had a really good burger or at least a burger that really hit the spot. I am a bit of a burger purist, so when I do homemade it is just straight up chuck with that 70/30 split with salt and pepper. I am pretty indifferent when it comes to smash vs non-smashed but this was probably one of the best smash burgers I have had in the city. I haven't tried too many smash spots, but of those popular ones, Simple burger was perfect. It literally is simple, all your normal fixings with that "mac" like sauce. But the construction might be simple but those burger patties are amazing, a nice crust, not too thin or too crunchy, just enough salt or maybe a little salty for me paired with American cheddar (or at least I assume it is). Every bite is just so satisfying. I hit up the spot again tonight, my friend enjoyed it too. The portion and price is pretty great value. Fries are not bad, not perfect but tonight at least, good crunch, even saltiness and not mushy. I have had the loaded fries and had some of my friend's poutine. The gravy tastes a little different, doesn't seem like a beef dripping gravy. And the loaded fries is kinda like fries supreme but because it removes the crunch of the fries might not be worth it. This place is a complete disaster. I ordered a double burger with one slice of cheese only and absolutely no sauce, but instead I was given a burger with burnt meat, double cheese, and full of sauce. How hard is it to follow a simple order? The service is even worse. There is a curly haired, slightly overweight guy working here who doesn’t speak English at all. Every time I try to explain my order, he just repeats regular? over and over again like a parrot. In Canada, hiring staff who can’t even communicate in English is unacceptable. Customers deserve at least basic communication. And the most shocking part? I personally saw this same guy drop a burger bun on the floor, then pick it up and use it to serve another customer like nothing happened. That is beyond disgusting and shows a complete lack of hygiene and respect for people’s health. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever had. Between the wrong order, burnt food, language barrier, and shocking hygiene violation, I can honestly say I will never step foot in this place again. This review is long overdue!! I have been a regular here for an embarrassingly long time, but happy to continue to be!

Their chicken tastes like it is breaded in house and fresh with their own spice blend. It has a nice peppery flavour unlike other places that serve chicken tenders which have a very "same" flavour.

Their fries always are fresh and perfectly seasoned. They maintain a nice crispy nature even after being drowned in a delicious gravy and cheese. The curds may not be the squeakiest, but they melt perfectly to create a nice creamy and stringy poutine experience!

They never skimp on the toppings and I am always satisfied by the meal. On rare occasions, I get one of their brownies to finish off the meal. It is a decadent dessert that borders on chocolate fudge-like consistency with a deeply satisfying sweetness.
