Still one one of the best upscale halal Italian restaurants in Yorkville! They accommodate many dietary restrictions and even made us a custom dessert 🍨 😊 #halal #yorkvilletoronto #italianfood #fyp #foodie

If you are looking for a dining experience that feels like stepping into a sleek, modern European film set, run, do not walk, to Sofia Yorkville. I recently attended a private dinner here and was completely blown away from start to finish. The ambiance is next level. Imagine old Hollywood glam meets Italian opulence, with deep velvet reds, mirrored surfaces, and polished wood creating a warm, stylish, and upscale vibe. The wine cellar at the back adds a gorgeous focal point, and the chic lighting (especially those globe pendants) casts the perfect soft glow for intimate conversations or celebratory toasts. Now, the food… absolutely phenomenal. We started with the Italian Burrata, an artful plate with roasted fig, grape agrodolce, black truffle, and a drizzle of truffle honey that brought it all together. Rich, creamy, tangy, and earthy in all the right ways. For my main, I went with the Controfiletto, a 10 ounce prime striploin cooked perfectly medium rare, served with a luxurious bordelaise sauce and a touch of chili and lemon. Tender, flavorful, and plated like a work of art. The sides, crispy patate fritte and garlicky broccoletti, were served family style and both were incredibly addictive. Honestly, I could eat a bowl of the bomba aioli by itself. Dessert was a serious showstopper. I chose the Cioccolato all’Arancia, a decadent gianduja ganache with vanilla cream, candied orange, and hazelnuts, paired with a scoop of Frangelico gelato. It was sophisticated and indulgent without feeling heavy. The textures, the balance, the plating, all of it was exceptional. Service was flawless. Attentive without being intrusive. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and timed everything beautifully. Drinks were topped up without asking, and the pacing of each course was smooth and relaxed. It is clear the staff here are seasoned professionals. The bar area is moody, elegant, and full of character. It is the kind of place where you could sip a negroni and feel like you are in Milan. Whether you are planning a special night out, a business dinner that makes an impression, or just want to treat yourself, Sofia is absolutely worth it. It is elevated without being stiff, glamorous without trying too hard, and every detail has been thoughtfully executed. I will definitely be back and already have my eye on a few more dishes to try next time.

My sig other and I had high hopes for this restaurant, but were left sadly disappointed. We were seated at 8pm, ordered almost right away, and didn’t receive our main dishes until 9:30pm. We were watching people get seated around us, receive their food, dine and leave, while we were still waiting on our main courses. We were waiting over an hour for our main dishes and they came our room temp. Our server must have completely forgot about our table and was no where to be found for the duration of our dinner. We inquired with other servers on the status of our food and we were told it would be out shortly about three times within the hour. At that point we had enough and were ready to leave, but our server was still no where to be found. My sig other and I both worked in the restaurant industry previously so we did our best to be patient and understanding, but after waiting over an hour for our food, we couldn’t sit there any longer. I called over a manager and calmly/respectfully let her know what happened during our evening. She got our food out right away with a sincere apology. She took care of our bill because of the poor service and was genuinely the saving grace of this restaurant. The food we actually did receive was just above average. In our opinion, it was definitely not worth the extensive wait, and not worth the price. You’re paying to be in Yorkville, but I’ve had much higher quality Italian food elsewhere. We’re both Italian and had high hopes for the food given the recommendations, reviews, and price point, but it was felt very over hyped. The restaurant itself is quite beautiful, however, be prepared that the music is so loud you can barely hear the person across from you. The music choice also did not match the atmosphere. The choice was techno/club music in such an elegant restaurant which felt confused. Overall, we are unsure if the negative experience with this particular server tainted our experience, or if it truly is over hyped. That being said, we are not opposed to returning and trying it again. Hopefully I can write a new review on a future date with better remarks.

Bitter Salad, Overly Salty Dish, and Poor Service I recently had a rather disappointing dining experience at Sofia Restaurant, and I feel compelled to share my feedback. While I have visited Sofia in the past and enjoyed its delicious steak and pasta dishes, this particular visit left me thoroughly disappointed.

During our visit, my friends and I were seated promptly, and we eagerly placed our orders. However, the experience took a turn for the worse when my salad arrived much later than my friends' meals. To make matters worse, the lettuce in the salad was completely bitter, rendering it nearly inedible. It was disheartening to receive such a poorly prepared dish, especially considering the reputation of the restaurant.

After waiting for what seemed like an eternity, we finally managed to catch the attention of our waitress and requested a replacement dish. Unfortunately, the wait for my meal dragged on for another 20 minutes. When it eventually arrived, I was disheartened to discover that my replacement dish was overly salty. It felt as though someone in the kitchen had carelessly added excessive amounts of salt, completely overpowering the flavors of the dish. It was an unpalatable experience, to say the least.

Furthermore, the service we received during this visit was subpar. It took us at least 10 minutes to flag down our waitress and request a replacement dish, which was a frustrating experience. The lack of attentiveness and responsiveness from the staff added to our overall disappointment.

I must emphasize that this experience was out of the ordinary, as I have previously enjoyed the culinary delights at Sofia Restaurant without any issues. The flavors and quality of their steak and pasta dishes have always been commendable. However, this visit left me questioning the consistency and attention to detail that I have come to expect from this establishment.

While I understand that occasional mistakes can happen in any restaurant, the combination of a delayed and poorly prepared replacement dish, along with the poor service, was disheartening. It is my hope that Sofia Restaurant takes this feedback constructively and addresses the issues that marred our dining experience.

In conclusion, my recent visit to Sofia Restaurant with my friends was marred by a series of unfortunate events. The bitter salad, the excessively salty replacement dish, and the lackluster service left a sour taste in our mouths, both figuratively and literally. I sincerely hope that Sofia takes the necessary steps to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future, as it would be a shame to see the quality of their food and service...

I recently visited Sofia Restaurant & Bar in Yorkville, and while the staff was cool and the overall atmosphere was enjoyable, my experience was marred by an incident that left me questioning the professionalism of the management. Allow me to provide a detailed review of my visit.

From the moment I stepped into Sofia, I was captivated by the charming ambiance and the warm welcome from the staff. The restaurant exuded a sense of sophistication, and the staff members seemed genuinely passionate about creating a pleasant dining experience.

However, my initial positive impression quickly soured when I witnessed what I can only describe as an unacceptable display of favoritism by the manager, whom I believe to be Carol, though I am uncertain of her name. As a part of her job, she allowed a particular customer entry into the restaurant, presumably due to some undisclosed arrangement. What was more disconcerting was observing the same customer flaunting his wallet to the staff members in what appeared to be an attempt to showcase his influence.

To make matters worse, Manager's attitude towards her team members was shockingly disrespectful. She was constantly berating and yelling at them, often without any apparent reason. The staff, visibly taken aback, seemed genuinely surprised by her outbursts. It was clear that Carol's behavior created an uncomfortable and tense working environment for everyone involved.

I believe that a restaurant's success heavily relies on the harmonious coordination between the management and staff. Manager's unprofessional conduct not only tarnished the dining experience but also left a lasting negative impression on both the customers and the employees.

It is truly disheartening to witness such behavior from a manager, as it undermines the otherwise pleasant atmosphere and the efforts of the hardworking staff. I sincerely hope that the management of Sofia Restaurant & Bar takes this feedback constructively and addresses the issue promptly.

While Sofia Restaurant & Bar possesses an appealing ambiance and amicable staff, my experience was overshadowed by the questionable actions and disrespectful behavior of the manager, Carol. It is my sincere wish that the establishment takes the necessary steps to rectify these concerns and restore its reputation for providing exceptional service and a welcoming...
