An unassuming place, the name got my attention , Bombay it reminded me of the city as i knew it rather than what it is called now. There were 5 people in a tiny kitchen , almost the same size as the dining area. Maybe they were going through a shift change as it is open till 6am or maybe that is their usual staffing level. I was in the mood for something vegetarian. I am also very finnicky about restaurant food and especially indian food as there is so much cookie cutter north indian food out there that is aimed at pleasing the 'white' palate. I am also on a low fat diet. After a bit of quizzing on my part my gracious server was able to determine my needs and recommend the Palak Masala , i was expecting pre cooked couple of days old palak ( spinach) turning grey around the edges type of concoction but surprised when the dish landed. It was tender to the bite bursting with natural flavours of ginger and cinnamon , looked simple but really layered full of goodness., with just the right heat and balance of spices garnished with slivered ginger. The tandoori roti too was not gummy as can be in indian restaurants but flaky and tasted like home cooked roti . I ordered a salted lassi on the side and the server mindful of my diet also made sure the roti was not buttered. I had a wonderful dinner and left overs for brunch in the morning . I will be going back and highly recommend The Bombay a positive dining experience that separates it over other 'indian' restaurants . Please check it out. Oh and they never asked me what spice level i would like , whish is another one of my pet peeve. I gave the atmosphere a five star purely because of the professionalism of my server and his gracious banter. This next part is a follow up from the next morning ( 24/May) . I could not finish the portion so I had ordered an extra roti to take the food back to the hotel , they had packed it in a brown paper bag. I was surprised that unlike most North American restaurants that have dumbed down the art of 'doggy bags' to brining containers for the customer to fill at the table, here they took the food away to pack in the kitchen, so this morning when i opened my 'doggy bag', this is what i was greeted with roti packed in a foil bag equipped with a steam valve so the roti would not get soggy, the palak masala packed in a beautiful reusable container ( sealed ) , some wrapped cutlery and in the cutlery bag individual sachets of salt and pepper and a toothpick. The food tasted as fresh and delectable as it did last night when served warm , the roti had maintained its great texture. I marvel at the attention to detail from this restaurant and raising the bar when it comes to...
Read moreThe most amazing thing about this place is that it’s still in business. The customer service is garbage. The food I ordered barely had flavor. I have never left a bad review even when I’ve had bad service, I just let it slide. But this restaurant’s service and poor quality food compelled me to leave a bad review. I called and placed an order for pickup and was told food will be ready in a half hour. When I got there just in time, the food wasn’t ready or even started. I was told they misplaced my ticket. I ordered chicken biryani and chicken tikka. I was told it’ll take another 20-25 mins for the chicken tikka. I settled for the biryani. I was told that will take 5-7 mins. And this was already like 10 mins after they knew my order wasn’t even started. The biryani took 15 mins actually. And the price was outrageous and NOT what was advertised on their website or on Uber Eats. On their website, the biryani was listed as $19.95 and on Uber Eats around $21.95. What they ended up charging me was $27. When I asked about the price difference between the website and what they actually charged me, the lady claimed the price on the menu in person had gone up and it was an error in the website. And she’ll need to call their software person to update the price. Frankly I’m not buying that at all. The biryani itself was abysmal. Barely any flavor and no spice even though I asked for the spicy. So in total I spent $31+ dollars (I still tipped) for the blandest biryani and the worst customer service. I understand things get busy and mistakes happen, but what really irritates me is the OUTRAGEOUS prices on all their foods. What a scam. I doubt the owners will even see or care about the bad reviews. They will continue to get away with bad service and even worse prices.
P.S. it seems like customer service in person was abysmal too based on...
Read moreLet me begin by saying that the food here is amazing, I have ordered from this restaurant at least 10 times. And honestly, I hate writing this review but I am doing so because I have had a series of bad experiences.
On March 21, I went to dine in. I ordered Chicken Sampler and Rara Mutton. I waited for 45 minutes for the food, did not get served, I decided to get takeaway as I understood takeaway is priority. No problem, server was a bit edgy, again I don't mind it as they do a hard job. Got home to discover I was given Chicken Rara instead of Mutton, I let it be. One bad day, we all have it.
Today that is April 5, I ordered via uber eats, I understand it is not the restaurant fault. However, I called the restaurant no answer. I hid my caller id, instant answer (trust me this is the first time I am actually calling them in my life). I asked about my order the lady said it is kept here so we are waiting for the new delivery person. No problem in that endeavor, however I placed my ordered at 6:30 PM, and my order wont be here till 8:30 PM. Again, I can wait. But at least deploy the logic that I would be served food which has been kept on a counter for last 2 hours.
I do not want any materialistic compensation or anything, all that have mattered to me was even a fake apology instead of shrugging off the fault to the delivery company. Again, I complete appreciate the workers in the...
