June 20th, 2025. Was in the neighborhood and decided to try this place. First, the restaurant layout is narrow, and just before noon it was already almost fully occupied and they sat me down on the single customer row facing the wall between two other existing customers. As I sat down I noticed my area didn’t have any condiments. They only put condiments on every other seat. Why I’m pointing this out is because the seating and table is very cramped and there is no room for me to reach over to grab some condiments without literally invading the space of either patrons sitting next to me. They both are busy eating and me reaching out for the condiments in front of them would necessarily interrupt them to stop eating and move back to make space for me to get the condiments. As a result I didn’t get to add any condiments. This is unacceptable and they really should put condiments for each seat in the singles row. Second, while ordering on the menu sheet I noticed they offered “Extra Toppings” like $3 for egg, $6 for egg, cha shu, seaweed, etc. Well, I didn’t think I would need “extra” toppings since it was already $17 for my bowl of Black Tonkotsu ramen. However, when the ramen came that’s when I noticed how incredibly STINGY this place is. The $17 ramen came with 2 THIN slices of cha shu and some black fungus. That’s it. Not even a half egg! (Most other ramen shops like Sansotei give an egg and more cha shu). See the attached photo how THIN the slice of cha shu is. This place is ridiculously stingy considering it’s already $17 for the ramen. They basically are trying to extort their customers by charging for toppings that should be included by default. And finally to cap it all off, the soup, which I had hoped would be so good that it would make up for all these transgressions wasn’t tasty as I expected. I can’t describe it but it didn’t taste like pork bone soup (tonkotsu) at all. I don’t know how this place got so many good ratings but I can’t recommend this place at all given all the other choices available. You have...
Read moreI have visited this place twice when we have plans to go downtown. The environment is not overly packed because you can also choose to sit at the wall, which provides more privacy or if you like to eat alone. I tried the black garlic tonkotsu ramen first and it tasted alright but the spicy miso tonkotsu ramen had really hit the spot! My mom still chooses the signature tonkotsu ramen as she doesn’t want to break her love for it despite not being fond of pork. We brought the signature ramen takeout home to share for the family and the takoyaki definitely was very tasty albeit eating just one to taste. I’d imagine that’s exactly how it tastes like in Japan too.
The best part is just like authentic Japanese ramen shops, you have the option to choose what you want in your ramen. Although my taste buds are not used to salty meals, I still rather choose normal saltiness to experience the fullness of the soup’s flavour and hard noodles as ramen eaters would commonly choose. The soup was not overly salty but it does once you drink to bottom of the soup without the noodles, which I cannot do no matter how much I wanted to finish it. If you watch your sodium levels or has low tolerance to saltiness, definitely opt for light saltiness. At least you can manage to finish the soup so it doesn’t go to waste.
The flavours tasted decent and was delicious. The employees were attentive, respectful, and helpful. I never got enough of putting the free garlic as a condiment in my soup as well. It’s also nice to know that when I asked for condiments for my takeout, even when the male worker looked distracted watching customers lining up outside at first, a few moments later he still managed to remember my request and gave me what I asked for.
So I’m glad that I have discovered this place through researching it here and the rating lives up to its reputation. It’s amazing how this branch has travelled outside of Japan. The price can be pricey but not as much compared to other ramen shops I’ve seen. I would highly...
Read moreBeautiful weather on a Friday night, and looking for that type of comfort food after coming back from the holidays. Then there's Ikkousha Ramen. A ramen joint I've been meaning to dine for the past few weeks now. I've stopped by a couple of times but always changed my mind with the wait time. Luckily I got to get into the shop with ease tonight. The interior was cool with wallpaper, and the locations they have worldwide. Even though it's quite busy the place still had great service and food came out fast.
What I find interesting about this place is how you can choose the texture of the noodles, and saltiness of your ramen. Right off the bat, it reminds me of someone who would love this.
First, Karage. Three huge pieces of crispy, but moist small fried chicken. The meat was really tender and came with this salt that brings in more flavour to the chicken. If this is your first time in this joint. I would recommend it on the side.
Then the Black Tonkotsu. So much I can say of this big bowl of ramen. I can definitely say it would rival my favourite ramen bowls in Toronto. I asked for the complete toppings to make this visit worth the visit. it included Seaweed, Cha Shu, and Egg.
Once that bowl of ramen is brought to you. Your ramen senses come tingling as it hits you with that beautiful smell of the broth. You can't help but pray. Pray to the ramen gods on thankful for this beautiful ramen. That smell was so fragrant, it is not your ordinary black Tonkotsu. The dark rich fatty broth that is still light to your stomach. Then comes the noodles that had a pasta chewy like texture.
Then, at last, the delicious deli slice Cha Shu. Well, season meat reminds me of Cha Shu slices at Konjiki. Lastly, that egg is served whole. However, once you bite into it comes a burst of custard yolk that was just Delicious.
Overall, it's a great ramen experience. I would say it's one of the top ramen spots by...
