Update: I had the opportunity to have a conversation with Elroy, who shed some light on the unique ingredients that contribute to the slight saltiness of the Portuguese pizza. Not only did he provide valuable insight, but he also went the extra mile by offering me a complimentary new pie. Impressed by his enthusiasm and willingness to ensure customer satisfaction, I eagerly accepted the offer.
For my next pizza adventure, I opted for the Chef's special and the Sopressata with a Brazilian cream crust. Let me tell you, these pies were a revelation. The combination of mushrooms, pine nuts, and alfredo sauce on the Chef's special was nothing short of immaculate. The flavors melded together beautifully, resulting in a memorable taste experience.
The Sopressata pizza, on the other hand, featured a delightful mix of fresh chilies and honey, perfectly balanced against the savory ham. But what really took me by surprise was the cream cheese crust. Its creamy texture and subtle tang added a whole new dimension to the overall taste, proving just how versatile this place can be in satisfying a variety of flavor preferences.
I must say, this experience has left me eager to explore more of their offerings. With such creativity and attention to detail, there's no doubt that this place has something to offer for every palate. I'm looking forward to my next visit, ready to embark on another delicious journey through their diverse range of flavors.
Original Review: So, I decided to give this place a shot after hearing all the buzz from the raving reviews. I went for the half and half pizza, hoping for a slice of perfection. Well, let me tell you, it was a tale of two halves, quite literally. The Cheese Steak Pizza half was a revelation, a symphony of flavors dancing on my taste buds. The meat, the cheese, the pie - all came together in perfect harmony. It was a slice of sheer culinary bliss.
But then, there was the other half, the Portuguese pizza. And unfortunately, it fell short. It was a bit too salty, leaving me with a sense of dissatisfaction. Now, I don't like to judge a place based on one dish alone. It's possible that it was just an off day, a misstep in the kitchen. So, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
I'm willing to return and give this place another chance. After all, that Cheese Steak Pizza was nothing short of divine, and it shows that they have the potential to deliver greatness. I'm hopeful that the Portuguese pizza was an anomaly. So, until then, I'll keep my fingers crossed and continue exploring...
Read moreCaptain's Oven Pizza might just be the best pizza spot in Vancouver, and it’s definitely my go-to for a consistently amazing experience. The quality here is exceptional—this is true Neapolitan pizza, and you can taste the authenticity in every bite. The crust is an absolute highlight; it’s thin, crispy, and has just the right amount of chew. They have truly mastered the art of creating a crust that’s both light and full of flavor.
The Garlic Cheese and Chicken Pesto pizzas are standout favorites of mine. The Garlic Cheese has the perfect balance of garlic and creamy cheese, making it a simple yet deeply satisfying option. Meanwhile, the Chicken Pesto is loaded with fresh, high-quality toppings that complement each other perfectly. The basil, pesto sauce, and juicy pieces of chicken make for an unbeatable combination that’s both rich and refreshing.
You can really tell that they use only the best ingredients here. The toppings are always fresh and packed with flavor, adding so much to each slice. It’s clear they prioritize quality in every pizza they make. If you’re looking for an elevated pizza experience that delivers on flavor, texture, and quality, Captain's Oven Pizza is a must-try. Highly recommended for any...
Read moreWe were in Vancouver for only one night and decided to try this nearby pizza place only because of the high reviews. We are SO glad we did.
First, the service from this locally owned small restaurant was exceptional! They were kind, helpful, hard-working.
When our pizza came out it looked like any other good pizza, but as we bit into it and got further to the crust we had decided it was some of the best pizza we’ve had.
There were two of us and we ordered the Superb Soprasetta - Medium 22. It included tomato sauce, mozzarella, fior di latte, grana padano, spicy soprasetta, basil, fresh green chili (jalapeños), finished off with honey drizzle. It was the perfect size, and the perfect bite every time, even down to the slight hint of honey when you reach the crust.
We then ordered the chocolate pizza and it was dripping in delicious milk chocolate. The strawberries give it a fresh element that’s needed, and this pizza was very good!
It is a very small place with limited seating, maybe 6-8 tables. But well worth it! You can always get it to go!
If we ever come back to Vancouver we will definitely come here and try...
