Just Gerald Magazine Video Review: Khaghan Persian – North Vancouver
Welcome to another Just Gerald Magazine feature—where flavor meets story, and culture pours out one cocktail at a time. Today, we take you inside a hidden gem nestled in North Vancouver’s Capilano Mall: Khaghan Persian Restaurant.
Now, Persian cuisine is one of the world’s oldest and richest culinary traditions. It’s all about harmony—balancing herbs and citrus, fire and steam, sweet and savory. And at Khaghan, you feel that legacy with every plate.
Jacob, the owner, brings more than food to the table—he brings soul. The moment you walk in, you’re welcomed into a warm, elegant space—rich with Persian design and filled with the aromas of tradition. It’s the kind of place that instantly slows you down and pulls you in.
The menu? It’s a masterclass in Persian hospitality.
There’s the braised lamb shank—tender and aromatic, paired with lentil rice, golden raisins, and dates. Or the Beef Barg kebab—grilled just right, served with a vibrant saffron rice that’s both fragrant and beautiful.
And you can't forget the Ghormeh Sabzi—a beloved herb stew made with dried lime, red kidney beans, and beef. It’s bold. It’s earthy. It’s comfort food with a capital “C.”
Now let’s talk cocktails—because this visit came with a surprise.
Jacob served up a classic Bloody Mary, but with a twist: it was presented with an authentic prairie grass straw from our sponsor, Shaffer Farms.
These aren’t ordinary straws. Naturally Straws are made the old-fashioned way—harvested from real prairie grass, cleaned, and hand-prepped to create a sipping experience that’s 100% natural, sustainable, and tactile in the best way.
They’re especially great in ice-heavy cocktails like Old Fashioneds, Bloody Marys, and anything that deserves a slow stir and a conscious sip.
Seeing that naturally golden straw in a deep red cocktail, in a room glowing with warm wood and hospitality—it just fit. It’s those small, elegant details that set places like Khaghan apart.
So what makes this restaurant worthy of a Just Gerald Magazine review?
It’s not just the food, or the service, or the atmosphere. It’s the care. The intentionality. The way Jacob and his team carry forward centuries of culture into every dining moment.
Khaghan Persian Restaurant is timeless. It’s personal. It’s flavorful, heart-forward, and grounded in tradition.
So if you’re looking for your next unforgettable meal in North Vancouver—pull up a chair. Order the lamb. Try the stew. Sip a cocktail with a straw that actually means something.
And remember: Just Gerald Magazine is where cocktails meet culture—one story at a time.
This review is sponsored by Shaffer Farms – makers of Naturally Straws.
The last straw you’ll ever need.
Thanks for watching, and we’ll see you at the next table.

Read moreUPDATE: Rez (restaurant manager) called a day after, he was very sincere and apologetic. Also I was offered a free meal the next time I visit. I’d love to say he did a great job on the recovery by explaining how important it is for their restaurant and guests to have a great experience. Like as I was mentioning to him a restaurant is not about only the food and the meal served, it’s about the experience you have as a guest. Initially this experience started negative but I’m very pleased with the level of sincere customer service Rez offered to mitigate this experience. I’ll change my rating from 1star to 3 star for the customer service.
I tried calling this place four times to order and they kept sending me to a full voicemail. On the fifth they finally answered so I ordered a bone in chicken no rice substitute with salad. When we get there 45 minutes later (they said order would be ready in 30-40) the order was not ready so we had to wait an extra 20 minutes with no explanation. They charged me for a full size salad, and the cost of a full size entree with rice but with no rice included. Well if I order a meal with no rice but substitute with a salad I imagine it would be the same price or like $1-2 extra? I would have at least appreciated a heads up that salad is extra instead of just charging me. When I pointed out this concern the hostess dismissed me and said sorry we charge full price for salad. When I asked to revise my order cause I may as well get the rice if I’m paying for it she said the order is already in. Very poor customer service, I don’t need a refund just wanted to make sure this is noted. Please work on the customer service, there are lots of other restaurants have top notch service with great food...
Read moreI had dinner at Kaghan with a friend, and it was truly an exceptional experience! We decided to share a variety of dishes, and the portions were perfectly enough for us.
We kicked off our meal with the Garden Salad, which was fresh and crisp, setting a vibrant tone for what was to come. Along with Torshi a delightful assortment of pickled vegetables including celery, cauliflower, carrot, cabbage, and chili pepper. The tangy flavors from the pickles were a wonderful prelude to our main course!
Now, onto the star of the show: the Shishlik Lamb Rack. This dish featured French cut lamb chops that were grilled to perfection. The quality of the lamb was outstanding, with a perfect meat-to-fat ratio that made each bite incredibly tender and juicy. The flavor was simply phenomenal—rich and savory, with just the right amount of seasoning.
Accompanying the lamb was the loveliest Tah Tig, the crispy rice that completed the dish. Its delightful crunch provided a wonderful contrast to the tender lamb, and the saffron-infused flavor was simply divine. Together with the grilled tomato, fresh lemon, parsley, and onion, every element enhanced the overall experience of the meal.
For dessert, we were eager to try the Sholeh Zard but unfortunately, it was a busy day, and they had sold out. We're definitely looking forward to trying it on our next visit!
I can confidently say that the lamb at Kaghan is among the best I’ve ever had, showcasing the restaurant's dedication to quality and flavor. The attention to detail in preparation is evident, and it truly elevates the dining experience.
If you're looking for a memorable meal with exceptional food and a warm atmosphere, I highly recommend visiting Kaghan! You won't be...
