Best Indian food I've had so far in Canada! We were a group of 3 and ordered the tandoori chicken, coconut curry and another curry (forgot its name), as well as the mango lassi drink and the kheer rice pudding dessert. Added two orders of basmati rice and one order of naan. The basmati rice actually came in a sizable portion, I'd say one order would be enough for two people. The main dishes were all so flavourful! The coconut curry is something I don't usually see at Indian restaurants in Toronto so I'm glad I tried it, and it turned out to be a great choice for the coconut lover. I also really enjoyed the kheer dessert, for it was very refreshing. All of this for just over $30 per person with tax and tips included, which I think is a great value.
On top of the food, the waitress was quite nice, and offered us a candle for the dinner. The restaurant itself is not large but tastefully decorated with very nice furnishings and wall paintings (and a great location!). I found that it had a good balance between casual dining and fine dining. The only complaint I'd have is that the washroom was strangely cold...there was a noticeable temperature different when going in and coming out of the washroom. Otherwise it's a great dining experience and I'm glad I chose it for my one night in Vancouver on the way...
Read moreKinara's food, for the most part, tastes and feels intentional - effort, thought, and care went into making it. For example: the goat curry was flavourful and delicious, with a perfect level of heat, and the meat was cooked so perfectly that it practically fell off the bone; the garlic naan is hands-down the best we've ever had in Vancouver.
The Chinese fusion dishes are what really pricked up my ears, and this time, we went with the chili garlic fried rice. On the one hand, the inspiration is clearly there, and the taste, texture, and contents of the dish are solid. On the other, some of the veggies appeared to be reheated from frozen, which detracted from the overall quality of the dish.
Nonetheless, this was an excellent meal from a very, very solid restaurant. Should they put the intention and care which is so evident in their Indian dishes into their Chinese-Indian fusion dishes, this will be not only a restaurant worth coming to from within the city, this will be a restaurant worth driving out from...
Read moreBy far the best Indian restaurant in Vancouver with an awesome spread. Their food is fresh and authentic, something that is hard to come by in the other Indian restaurants I have tried. Their Tandoori Chicken is succulent and comes on a sizzler plate with fresh, crispy veggies. I also tried their Kadhai Paneer which comes with a delicious and tangy sauce. The sauce had thinly sliced pieces of onions and bell peppers which was a delight! It was hard for me not to notice how fresh their food is including their veggies, meat and paneer. We also tried their selection of breads and I must say that the Onion Kulcha, Aloo naan and Palak Paneer naan were the softest and most fulfilling companions to their selection of curries. I seldom go out for Indian as being from India, there aren't many restaurants that fulfil my pre-developed Indian taste. There is finally a restaurant that does justice to what Indian food is really about. Definitely a happy customer and will come back over and over again. Thank...
