Riviera Cafe & Restaurant — Restaurant in Vancouver

I’m changing my review here from a 5* to 2* due to a very disappointing experience this past Tuesday. Having made the reservation on Sunday, for five of us coming from nearby, Richmond and North Vancouver, we arrived through rush hour traffic to find the restaurant closed with no sign indicating why. I assumed the restaurant was permanently closed. But found differently the next day when I dropped by to find it open.

I understand how difficult it can be running restaurants these days but better communication through a website posting hours and daily menus would be helpful. At least locals who would like to support the restaurant could see if it is indeed open and what is on offer.

Three of us had dinner here last night and were happy to finally see this place reopened. The owners have done a really nice job of refurbishing this space-very comfortable seats, blinds that could be adjusted for the level of sunlight and very clean. Service was pleasant, albeit a bit slow at times. Two of us had the buttermilk chicken sandwiches and one of us had the Swiss mushroom burger. All were delicious and the fries were tasty although a bit salty. So nice to have another option in the neighbourhood without TVs (there is one) commandeering the room. So happy this place is finally open, we missed the old Branas bistro, but the new restaurant is just as good. I had their Riviera Royal burger and, oh boy, was it great! Handmade juicy patty reminded me of my mom’s beef patties, yumm! I have dietary restrictions, GF, no eggs, no dairy, and the staff was so attentive to my requests. Their special sauce had egg white in it, so we skipped the sauce, the bun and the cheese, and the end result that came on a bed of farm fresh Romain lettuce was still fantastic 😋 The restaurant just opened with what they call a”soft opening”, so for now the menu is small, but more dishes are already coming next week. They have a menu on the window the says "Brunch" but when I tried to order off of it during brunch time I was told that that's not the actual brunch menu which was frustrating.. then the waitress took a long time to take my order and before she went to deliver an order to someone else out of the window she was adjusting her dirty white runners and socks before grabbing a plate with the same hand and never washed her hands at all.. the kitchen also never received my order so I had to wait extra time which would of been fine if it wasn't for everything else.
