I was looking to host a Halloween birthday party with ~30 guests, and most places I found either charged for rental or had a minimum spend that would be hard to for my group size to meet. I came across The Wicklow on Reddit as an affordable option for private parties and called in and spoke to Tara, who let me know that I could book out the private function room on the second floor for a minimum spend of $1,000 (very reasonable for 30 people) and was very friendly and happy to answer all my questions.
I dropped by a week later to see the space, which has a gorgeous skylight and beautiful views of False Creek through its full-length glass windows. Leading up to the party, Tara was very responsive via email, and the phone was promptly picked up by someone working at the pub the couple of times I called in to ask a question.
On the day of the party, I was able to come in at 2pm to decorate the space, even though my party only started at 7pm. When I returned at 6:45pm, our server was present and had already attended to a few guests who had arrived early. Throughout the night, she was swift and attentive and everyone's orders arrived quickly. All my guests agreed that the food and drinks were excellent — the sesame seed crusted tuna saku, chicken linguine, and fish & chips that I tried were incredibly tasty.
The party was everything I hoped it would be and more, and I highly recommend The Wicklow to anyone looking to host a private event for their amazing service, responsiveness, and...
Read moreThis place is a hidden secret. From the front it looks like a dark tavern offering really nothing to a visitor unless you want a beer or possibly a Guinness. I strolled in as you can’t pass an Irish pub without seeing what entertainment could be waiting you. I’m not embarrassed to say it was early but my priority was some food. Warmly greeted I was offered to consider the patio to have my beer and possibly food. Well, what awaited me as I followed the sign for “Patio” was something that I’ll always remember. If you’re Irish, a patio is not what this was. Their version of a patio is a beautiful first floor deck that offers a viewing and dining experience that the rich and famous expect. The view on this day was blue sky and a landscape you’d be familiar with if you were a Millionaire. I opted for the Tuna Salad. And it was delicious. And it didn’t cost the earth either. To top it off, I think it will have to be a Guinness but post is for...
Read moreGreat spot, average pub-fare, but beer (itself), , and familiarity of bartender with that beer, very poor. I asked for 2pints of a local craft beer, ( Yellow Dog Hazy IPA), and was given two mugs of crystal-clear, amber foof-water purport to be the YD…..I pointed out this discrepancy to the bar-tenderess who confidently proclaimed that it was indeed the YDHIPA. (I attach an image of what a REAL YDHIPA looks like). . …totally opaque, like the barkeep). I am certain that I was knowingly bs’d, and/or the bartender didn’t know her product. Furthermore, these incorrect pints cost about $11 each, tax+tip incl….anyway, I won’t be hurrying back, let’s just say that!….its one thing to pour me a different (or stale) beer, or not to know your products, or to infer your customer doesn’t know his/her stuff when the clearly do…but remember, the customer is...
