This is a very small cafe serving homemade food and drinks. The design is a little dated but feels like a home or a community centre - very cozy. The atmosphere is completely unpretentious and non-judgemental. There’s a small selection of sweet and savoury baked goods like scones, muffins, cookies, and sausage rolls, and a few sandwiches. I was there around noon and it looked like they’d run out of some of the scones, but there were still options. I got a breakfast sandwich, triple chocolate cookie, and a Liquorice Spice tea latte. The sandwich looked simple as it was just an omelette and cheese on a baguette, but the omelette was full of veggies like spinach, onion, peppers, giving it a nice flavour and freshness. The cookie was so good! It was really fresh and the chocolate chunks were still soft and melty. Nothing really to remark on about the tea latte. They have Stash teabags and will make the lattes with any tea they have on hand. I was excited to see Liquorice Spice, though, which is one of my favourite Stash teas. The prices are very affordable compared to the average coffee shop (my total was only about $14), and there’s a note at the register that they recently had to raise prices but will charge the old, lower price if the raised prices present a hardship to anyone. They seemed very invested in supporting community-building in this neighbourhood. It’s not a “destination” cafe, but a nice place to visit if you live nearby, and a convenient stop along the False...
Read moreThe Convivial Café and Bakery in Vancouver embodies a cozy neighborhood ambiance with its home-baked goods like scones and banana bread. Situated near the scenic seawall at Leg in Boot Square, it's a haven for baked delights and savory fares. Their scones, known for a crisp exterior and fluffy interior, along with their banana bread, muffins, and a variety of sandwiches, resonate with the taste of authenticity and freshness. Not just a bakery, it's a community space where the warmth extends beyond the oven, manifesting in pleasant service. Every nibble tells a story of tradition, skill, and conviviality.
At Convivial, a "pay it forward" initiative is represented by sticky notes on a designated wall. Patrons with the means can leave a donation for coffee or other items, which is then available for those in need.
We also received an unexpected touch - the person who sold us the baked goods offered to warm them up for us as well. We continued our walk along the sea wall, extremely satisfied...
Read moreThey were closed for a month, reopened Feb 1/25. I went in on Feb 2nd, wanted a pop, a croissant and a loaf of bread. When I arrived, Beth (the owner) was serving a couple in front of me. She saw me there but totally ignored me, did not say I'll be right with you or even hello. She proceeded to go to the back and did not return, leaving me at the cash wondering wth. Several minutes pass, I'm still standing there with my pop on the counter. Finally a worker, also at the back, sees me and comes over and asks what I'd like. I respond with a croissant please and do you have any bread. She rings up my pop and croissant and then goes to Beth to ask about bread. Beth comes over and says No bread, they just opened up again. Not really true because they opened yesterday. Regardless, I still tipped 10%. The employee then walks away forgetting to give me my croissant. I called her back and said My croissant? She then gives it to me with no apologies and I leave. I will never...
