The food wasn't bad and the server was friendly but they need to work out a better waiting system. My friend and I got the same thing a bento, her portion came out first, some minutes later her cousins sushi roll came out, my bento box came out as she was more than a third done. Let me remind you that this was the same bento box as my friend but it took an additional 10+ minutes. So I finally have my box but another friend is still waiting for her bento box, which in my opinion should have been one of the first to arrive, as we both got bento boxes with the only difference being mine had fried tempura and hers had nigiri sushi. We asked our waitress or well one of the three that was around our area and she checks and says the order is basically done. Nope. We each finish our food and the last bento box still hasn't arrived. My friend tells the waitress to cancel the order and the bento is ready just as we go to pay, needless to say we did not want it anymore at that out. I figured out this likely had to do with the wait staff rather than the kitchen when one of the waitresses comes up us as we're paying and asks if the food in her hand was ours, it was not. This confirmed my theory that they had given our food to someone else because the people who came way after us got their bento before my friend. If you had given our food to someone else be honest, don't say it's about ready when it is clearly not. This was disappointing and I do...

We are regulars of this Japanese Place. Today, we served really terrible food. We ordered Vancouver roll, chicken soba and salmon teriyaki with Tempura (Yams & Shrimp) For the salmon teriyaki, At first glance and the smell, we can tell there’s something wrong with the fish. We had a few bites and it has a strong fishy taste and a strong bad aftertaste. We let the server know, she doesn’t quite understand us but they allowed us to change the protein on my plate and we told them that we can still eat the Tempura Veggies. We had the Carrot tempura, it taste fine. But when we had a bite on the squash tempura yam, It is so bitter, texture of the squash inside the batter is weird and taste like the squash is close to get rotten yet they still served or it can be cross contaminated. It is so weird for them not to see that there is a problem with the squash given that they dipping it on a batter before they fry it.

And really feel bad getting served bad quality food, Once is okay. We can give a pass on salmon. But when we had a bite on the squash yam. I really lose appetite on eating anymore. Feel the food that i am eating is not safe to consume.

Their food service is declining....

Have you ever had a hunger attack while shopping for clothes?

Halfway through my stroll on Robson street, I became extremely hungry and the first sign I saw was "Yan Sushi". Even though I didn't know anything about this place, I decided to go....well...climb down rather.....It's in a hole in the ground.

The place was clean, the service was good and the sushi? I don't know how else to put this, but it was the freshest I've had in a while. We ordered again a week later for takeout and it was again just as fresh. Also, their rolls are super creative culinarily impressive and colourful. I love the fact that it was inconspicuous and unassuming.....very different and refreshing from the current world we live in. No glitz, no glam, no pretend, no...."oh let me distract you with our million dollar decor while we serve you subpar food and charge you up the wazoo." Nope.....just good food and grateful service.

This place came along at the perfect time, as our regular sushi place started serving moldy ginger, and I draw the line at moldy anything.

YAN...you got...

This place is tucked away on a back corner of a building, down some stairs. I was a little skeptical walking in there, but it's actually a cute little place. The server didn't come over to us until we had put our menus down. Then when we did order the food took so long to come out. It's a good thing I had great company otherwise I would have been upset. I ordered the spring roll (its on special on Wednesdays) white snow and agadashi tofu, spicy. The rolls were great, though they weren't super fresh. She forgot to bring out the tofu until after I'd already finished my rolls. And I assume she warmed them in the microwave because she quickly ran into the back to grabbed them and they were pipping hot. I honestly didn't even eat them. My brother was also sick after he ate some gyoza and yam tempura. Not sure what did him in though. I probably won't ever be back here for that reason alone.
