The menu here is very creative and seems to influenced by and is an homage to Vancouver and its diverse food landscape and respects people with a cultivated ability to be discerning and discriminating. Nothing is overstated, and presents itself as confident and matter of fact. Staff are friendly.
My only gripes: Oysters on the half shell don’t come with horseradish
it’s the playoffs, allow an NHL game’s audio to overtake the music or shut off the music, especially when it is very obvious many of your patrons are there for the game; also take a look at the frame rates/artifacting happening by the video projectors for high speeds movements. You might even get more patrons that way too as we were surprised to be able to immediately get a seat here even though the second period already started.
take it easy on clearing dishes. On our first dishes it was overly aggressive and the dining room wasn’t that busy anyway. We kept having to rescue unfinished dishes from being taken away and having our conversation interrupted to do so. Sometimes it’s also just nice to observe the work we’ve completed. And unless space needs to be made for more dishes, there’s non need to rush this if we have been served everything already. This kind of happened again on the second visit but to a lesser degree.
also a Faux pas: If a hockey is down one goal in the third period and there is a minute left, it’s a really bad time to be asking if everything is okay or we need anything else. I feel like this is only a problem with staff that have no interest in hockey though, as if they were they’d be biting their nails watching...
Read moreI have to say, great experience, and will be back for sure. One of the best in downtown Vancouver. I ate here 3 times in three days: First time me and my wife were curious to try this new restaurant next door and decided to have dinner. I got the tasting combo with three beers (lager, ale and ipa) and 6 bites. Very interesting to taste many things and have an overview of their signature dishes in one go. And all of this for only 28 dollars!
The second day I took some takeout with Uber eats, after getting home after a long day of work. I got only some spicy chicken wings, and my wife got the Stanley park poke. For some reason, the poke was WAY spicier than the chicken wings, but nonetheless, they did not disappoint.
Third day we went for the happy hour and we shared fried pork ribs, fries and some kimchi balls with probably rice (it was an experimental out of menu, suggested by the waiter) with a house red wine and house craft beer. And all of that was amazing.
Honestly, the thing I liked the most, was the waiters not coming to the table every two seconds. In many restaurants around BC you find waiters constantly interrupting asking you for “want a refill”, a”nother drink”, “everything is okay..” without giving you the time to enjoy the meal or have a conversation with your friends/family.
Long story short, not too expensive...
Read moreBrewery: Taylight Downtown Taproom City: Vancouver, BC Canada Why would I come back: Taylight Brewing's downtown location is a fantastic addition to the Vancouver's craft beer community. The modern, inviting space creates a vibrant, energetic, atmosphere, perfect for an after-work (or during work) pint or a weekend get-together with buddies. Featuring a diverse range of creative (Sakura Yuzu ale) and classic styles Loco Poco Czech Pilsner). The tasty tapas are a highlight, offering flavourful and well-executed plates perfect for sharing. However, the can't-miss deal is their oyster happy hour. The oysters are incredibly fresh, expertly shucked, and offered at a price that’s hard to beat. Paired with that crisp pilsner, or a hazy pale ale, it’s a perfect combination. With great service and a lively buzz, this spot is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates quality brews and delicious bites. It has quickly become one of my top recommendations in the area.
