Horrible first impression. I recently ordered from this location through Uber Eats for myself and a friend who is celiac. We called ahead to verify what was gluten-free and went ahead with our order, also making notes on the order describing the allergy. Upon arrival, the order contained gluten. We called the restaurant to learn what we could do, and they failed to apologize, were very rude, and repeatedly hung upon us. We never received any compensation or explanation from the restaurant.

I would not recommend this location if you have any allergies.

Added based on restaurants reply Thank you for replying. We respect your attempt at an apology but continue to be incredibly frustrated with your restaurants handling of this situation. Your location did not unintentionally hang up. The person we spoke with was incredibly rude and continued to hang up on us on purpose as we asked for any type of resolution, suggestion, or apology. After the 5th time you hung up on us, we gave up. My friend is extremely sick with the worst allergic reaction she has had in years due to your ignorance of food safety and communication.

The tempura batter is very common in sushi. This is why we know to avoid it while ordering. However, the person we spoke to told us it was our fault for ordering improperly while having an allergy. However, your latest menu does not say anything about the yam being yam tempera in the Victoria Roll. Many ingredients in the items we ordered were not noted in the menu description. Another example is the coconut topping on the Kawaii Roll.

I stand by my...

This sushi spot in downtown Vancouver has quickly become my go-to! If you’re looking for fresh, affordable, and high-quality sushi, this place checks all the boxes. It’s perfect for grab-and-go, especially if you’re heading to the seawall or one of the nearby parks—nothing beats enjoying great sushi with a view.

What really stands out is how fast and efficient the service is. Even during busy lunch hours, the staff keeps things moving without ever sacrificing quality. The sushi is always fresh, neatly packed, and full of flavor. The menu has a wide variety of options, from classic rolls to sashimi, donburi bowls, and even vegetarian-friendly choices. There’s something for every craving.

Another great bonus is their rotating specials. If you spend a certain amount, you often get a free add-on—like miso soup, a specialty roll, or even a drink. It’s a great way to try something new and makes the meal feel like an even better value. For the price and portion, it’s hard to find anything that compares downtown.

While it’s a small spot and takeout only, I actually love the convenience. It makes it super easy to pick something up on your lunch break or while on the go. Plus, the staff is always friendly and helpful, making the whole experience feel welcoming.

Overall, this place is a gem for sushi lovers in Vancouver. Whether you’re in the area for work, a walk, or just want a quick and satisfying meal, it’s well worth stopping by. Great food, great service, and great value—can’t ask for more. I’ll definitely keep...

My friend Daniel and I have a little ritual where we order sushi from here every month or so. We’ve always been loyal customers (for years now). We’ve recommended Yamato to everyone. But tonight was just brutal. We spent over 100$. We ordered 2 pacific rolls (basically 40$) - we received only one roll instead and half of the roll wasn’t even cut. I have a terrible intolerance to spice so I asked (nicely two or three times in my order) to have the wasabi & ginger on the side. They did that thankfully but half way through my one roll I realized they had wasabi smushed into the roll which sent my taste buds to hell and back for 20 mins. We asked for no mushrooms or zucchini in our yakisoba (and apologized for being annoyingly picky) but zucchini was in it. Daniel just found a hair in his roll and what seems to be a fish bone (?) in his box salad as I’m writing this. Everything was just terrible - yakisoba is dry, the rolls I did receive (the ones not smothered in wasabi) tasted old, I don’t know what’s happened here if they switched owners or what..definitely never ordering again. Our orders have been consistently slightly messed up here every time but the food was so delicious we shrugged it off. This time was just too far though. If you have an allergy, if you have preferences - don’t order here. It feels like they were frustrated with my two requests and effed our...

I had a very bad experience here. One guy working in the kitchen was extremely rude and unprofessional. I went to pick up an Uber order and politely asked the lady at the front desk about it. She told me it would take 10 minutes. I waited patiently for 10–15 minutes, then she gave me the order. She asked me to confirm it, which I did, and only then she handed me the order. I understand why she asked, because sometimes drivers cancel after taking orders, and I had no problem confirming. After confirming, I mentioned to her that this kind of announcement sometimes embarrasses drivers who don’t do those things, but I also said it’s part of her job and I respect that. Suddenly, a man came out from the kitchen, grabbed the order from my hands, and told me to cancel the order. I told him he cannot take the order back after I confirmed it—it belongs to me at that point and Uber will hold me responsible, not him. Instead of listening, he became aggressive, rude, and even tried to threaten me physically. The lady had to pull him back to stop him from hitting me. I felt very unsafe and disrespected. I even have a full video of him coming at me aggressively. If the manager wants to review it, I am happy to share. Please take action because people with this kind of behavior should not be working in customer service.

Yamato Sushi is an excellent choice for fresh, flavorful sushi that I absolutely love. The Dynamite sushi is hands down the best—it features perfectly fried shrimp, adding a delicious crunch that makes it a must-try. Every bite is fresh and tasty, and the California roll is also fantastic, with consistently high quality. It’s unfortunate that they closed their doors for dine-in and only offered takeaway, but the quality of the sushi makes it worth the trip. I’ll definitely be coming back for more. Highly recommended for anyone craving fresh, tasty sushi on the go!
