Today, we returned to Gordo's.. just to see if my suspicions were correct. Upon being welcomed at the door and then pointed in the direction to where to select the table we desired. We left the two greeters and found our table of choice and seated ourselves. The orange juice was concentrate, which is pretty much expected nowadays. Very few foodservice establishments embrace the old school ways and do things from scratch. The bacon was indeed crispy which we asked for. As a Red Sealable chef, I can tell it was deep fried and then kept on the grill for warming. Home fries were great and not too salty. Rye bread was well buttered. Our Sunny Side Up Eggs were overdone. We did not want to complain and cause a scene and definitely did not want to waste food or animal lives. So we just ate it. Cooking temp and/or holding time for the eggs crossed threshold, due to either an over-burdened kitchen or under-skilled linecook. Either way, it was still edible and not big enough of a problem to raise with the house. True, die-hard breakfast/brunch afficianados might say I under-reacted o the egg situation, because my inactions might eventually lead to ever lowering standards of egg service. I believe "It is what it is". Success or failure depends on the business and its loyal customer base. Judging by the fact the place is always full all year round, accurate egg cooking is not a huge issue. Familiarity between staff and all the regulars seem to supercede kitchen production standards. "It is what it is.". Would I still return and try other/same foods? For the same price point, there are 3 other lateral choices within 10 minutes drive. We always try to stop in here, because it is in between errands we run in the area. If time and convenience will not be issues to work around, we might just bypass this place that does not seem to care too much about us. We don't want to bother people who do not wish to be bothered. Sadly, this old school diner does not embrace old school values that help make dining out feel like "Home Away From Home" for everyone and only a select few.
My wife's combo breakfast was great. No complaints. My fish and chips could have used some Love. The fries were perfect. The gravy was enjoyable. The fish was cooked to a nice colour. But, for whatever reason, the fish was dry as cardboard. At one point, it was so dry and hard, I had to cut that portion off and eat the remaining pieces. I didn't want to cause a scene or complain, as my wife has had a lot of stress recently and she was enjoying her meal for the first time in a long time. I still tipped 20+%. But, I will highly unlikely order the fish and chips again. "Fool Me Once.. ". Would I return to this place? Absolutely. Would I consider trying the fish and chips again? Very highly unlikely. This place is still a solid Go To when you can't go to the usual big chains like Cora's, Eggspectations and Pur And...

Food: The breakfast menu at Gordo’s Diner is both extensive and enticing. I decided on the Gordo’s Special Omelette, filled with fresh vegetables, cheese, and bacon. It was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. My friend chose the Pancake Stack, which was light, fluffy, and served with a generous portion of maple syrup and fresh berries. Every bite was delightful.

Read moreI recommend Gordo’s Diner 100% I was in Vaughan for my cousins wedding June 14,2025. The atmosphere, food and servers are amazing. I was there all weekend because it felt like home. Amanda, Maria and Min(spelling) were fantastic. Amanda knew my order the next day, Myn(Spelling) was amazing on Sunday June 17, 2025 to accommodate my needs to find me tables for my family. Amanda just had the fun answers to our questions. The teamwork of the employees was astonishing. They all worked together, from folding the utensils into napkins, taking patrons orders, to cooking, to serving our beverages, to serving our food. These people work under pressure and still have a superb smile on their faces, while hiding the stress and sweat they endure all day long. This pertains to everyone working there! It’s such a positive, welcoming atmosphere. Like I said, it felt like home. Thank you to Amanda, Maria and Minn(Spelling) for making my out of town away from home, to feeling like I never left home❤️and to the kitchen staff for the awesome food and the others on the side, to cleaning tables and getting utensils ready. I hope the managers read this because you have hired an awesome crew and they are ALL assets to your organization. Thank you Kimberly Boisvert from...
